Dark Age of Camelot : Fixes and Frustration

Posted Oct 12, 2005 by Jon Wood

Yesterday, Mythic and Dark Age of Camelot admitted to a couple of issues that were causing their players frustration. One issue involved download time and a bottleneck issue that was making wait times painfully slow. The other involved a bug that needed squashing.

Two important notes for you guys:

First, the download (or rather the acquiring of the download) is very, very slow right now. It is painful (some of us are doing it from home, same as you), and we've done as much as possible to optimize things on our end. We're looking at our options for tomorrow, and watching what's going on tonight. It's a bottleneck, I know, and I am so sorry about the frustration. We are doing what we can to get you the files that belong to you. I want you to know that we are aware of it and doing our best to alleviate the situation.

Second, there is a bug with one type of instance. (Some of the boards are calling it the foothills bug.) We are aware of it, and we appreciate all the appeals and emails. We have identified the problem, which is the good news. Obviously, our programmers are at work on the solution right now to solve the problem. The solution will require server downtime, and we will take down the servers to bring you the solution the instant the programmers are done. The bad news is that we are looking at hours, and we may not have the final fix until tomorrow morning. So, I am asking for your help. Please do not attempt to enter this type of instance until you hear from me on the Herald, because it's not worth the frustration, and it definitely is not worth you wasting your time. Stay out of that instance, and tell your fellow players. Not everyone reads the Herald, so if you can spread the word, I would appreciate it. You also don't need to appeal, since we've identified the problem. Again, I apologize, and we will get this fixed ASAP.

Stay tuned for updates as I get them.

This morning, the website also contained this piece of information:

Two important notes for you guys:

We are currently planning to take down the servers to fix the bug I mentioned last night. We will be back by 1:00 PM - and of course, I'll post here if either time changes. I am sorry for the inconvenience, and hope this does the trick.

Stay tuned for updates as I get them.
