General : Game On Podcast #32: Scott Hartsman on All Things Trion

Posted Dec 17, 2013 by Suzie Ford

Welcome back to another episode of Game On: Epic Slant Press Edition! This week we're joined by noted game developer and CEO of Trion Worlds, Scott Hartsman. Join us for a half an hour as we discuss RIFT, ArcheAge, Trove, and Defiance.

Some of what you'll hear about:

RIFT:

  • Patch 2.5 was meant to remind players of the pace of updates surrounding launch. Trion wants players to always feel like there is something new they don't need to pay extra for.

Trove:

  • In response to players making comparisons to Cube World and other voxel games: Scott is encouraging players to look at it like a loving homage. It is definitely not a copy of any other game on the market.
  • When asked about how familiar it will feel to an MMO player, Scott says that it will likely feel more like Diablo than a traditional MMO
  • Trion is really trying to do something new with their development of Trove by bringing players into the development process and being totally transparent as it progresses
  • Players can increase their chances of an invitation by being active with the team on Reddit and other social networks; you don't have to be a supporter to get access

Defiance

  • Trion is extremely proud of how the Defiance team is developing the game
  • The biggest piece of feedback they received regarding their B2P model was that there weren't enough enticing things to purchase. They are rectifying that.
  • Arkbreaker is really aiming to answer players concerns and provide players with new, best-in-game content.
