Aion and NCsoft recently held a contest to let fans design an Aethertech (think Gundam, Aion-style) suit of armor to be added to game once the new class. Today, the winner is announced.
The concept "5H-0G0" by EMPIREinWAR on the Siel server was chosen as the overall winner for its "relevance to Aion coupled with its humorous design featuring the beloved Shugo race."
From the official press release:
“With a chance to immortalize an idea into the game, it was important for us to consider all of the design elements of each submission and their relevance to the existing Aion world,” said Sean Orlikowski, associate product manager, Aion. “The development team chose this specific design for obvious reasons – nothing says Aion like the Shugo race. And with new technology entering the land, you can bet the Shugos will be there to corner the Aethertech market in any way possible. Once you go Shugo…”
Upon choosing the design, Jinhwan Kim, Head of the Aion Global Development Art Team, had this to say; “We can sum this up in one word “witty”. From the naming all the way to the Shugo character itself, this piece was really fun to look at, which is why this is the winner”
The “5H-0G0” Aethertech Mechanical Suit is not only the winner of the contest, but the design will be a cornerstone component of the Aethertech class’ introduction into the Aion world. Along with the introduction of the suit into the game, EMPIREinWAR will have the opportunity to work with the development team in the official naming process of “5H-0G0.”
The Aethertech class, coming in Aion 4.5, provides players the opportunity to utilize the class’ magical mechanical mounts to unleash both short- and long-distance attacks in any raid, PvP or boss battle deep in the world of Atreia. By pulsing aether through these armored suits, the Aethertech can form Gatling guns, rail guns, blades, electric whips, gigantic fists, and even rocket launchers to devastate their opponents.
