Focus Home Interactive has acquired the previously defunct city-building MMO CitiesXL from Monte Cristo, and has plans to re-launch the game this October as CitiesXL 2011.

The re-launch will add hundreds of new buildings (amounting to more than 700 structures), as well as new maps (totalling 45), and will also allow for trading between different single-player created cities. No word on whether the re-launch will also see the return of the game's Planet Offer MMO-esque service, though the fact the press release makes the distinction of a "single player" mode is somewhat telling. At the very least we can probably expect to see some sort of multiplayer offering.
