Community Manager Eyonix has announced his departure from Blizzard Entertainment on the official World of Warcraft forums late last week. The announcement was relatively short and to the point, but we get the idea that Eyonix will be missed by the World of Warcraft community.
For nearly six years, we've shared our thoughts with one and other, we've laughed, we've argued, and we've cried -- the crying part was just me wasn't it? Those times, I'm afraid must come to an end as I've made the decision to explore opportunities outside of Blizzard.
It has very honestly been a huge pleasure, and I thank you all for allowing 'Eyonix' to always remain a very fond memory as I move on.
Eyonix's goodbye post can be viewed here.
We at MMORPG.com would like to wish Eyonix the best of luck in all his future endeavors!
[Thanks Kost for the tip!]
6 years on WoW, and the goodbye post is 3 lines...
probably gona bring back what wow was at vanilla wow
he ll bring back the term mmorpg, for real this time not of photoshop of guild wars like blizzard forced down their dev trout(grin)
And the thread has currently 972 replies, impressive.
Abandon ship!
Women, children and Community managers first!
Having "blizzard" on your CV pretty much guarantee's the guys ANY job within the "community managment" field and one hell of a leg up in a related field.
He's obviously going to work for Jon at Procrastination Studios.
I hate to see him go he was good at getting dev's to listen to the community and on bringing the dev's thought process to the community. He was always open and honest and would admit mistakes. Whereever he goes he will be a great asset.
I was a very active WoW player for 5 years, 3 on a US realm and 2 on a EU. I remember Eyonix posting mostly on the US boards. Nice person, always backed up his opinions and thoughts. I do not believe that he could do anything to stop WoW's community from going down the sewers. When a MMO growths this gargantuan it's inevitable to happen i think.
Sad day in WoW history.
Agree, SuperN. I'm bummed.
Eyonix was the passion behind the Guild Relations Program and tried to implement a number of things that might have improved WoW's notoriously bad player community. It seems he didn't have a lot of support for it, but it was a pet project.
I hear 60-80 hour weeks are the norm at Blizz, so maybe now he'll be able to have more of a life. <3 Eyo
I hope he finds a new job someplace that people will love him as much as he did at blizz. As much as i can't stand WoW anymore I do feel a little bit sad to see him go.
I'm really going to miss him. He was the CM that I always respected the most, from the first day I started posting on those forums.
He will be sorely, sorely missed.
Possibly he and Blizzard saw things differently in the way the game should have developed ?
Simply: No
He was a community manager, not a developer. Just because someone leaves Blizzard doesn't mean they automatically have an issue with the way the game is being managed/developed.
I remeber chit-chatting with Eyo in the WoW forums, good guy, like someone else said he can get pretty much any job he wants, having managed a community of millions under his belt.
Who leaves Blizzard ? Unless they have a job as the towel boy for the SI Swimsuit edition or something...I know people today who left their decent paying jobs and work as temps with the cleaning company that Blizzard contracts in hopes of maybe somehow getting their foot in the door just as a GM, Blizzard is insanely picky about who they hire. But Eyonix job had to be high pressure maybe after six years he's just burned out...in any event I wish him the best.
Eyonix fanboi tears...nomnomnom.
Funny that I had thought about never returning to WoW, but with Eyonix gone - I may actually think about returning for Cat.
New Blizzard executive and now this? ICEBERG right ahead!
Thats a shame. Didn't always agree with blizz on some things and god knows the community drove me nuts but I always felt he did a good job and actually seemed to have some real common sense when it came to dealing with issues.
No offense, he may be a good person, I don't know.
But he's only a Community-guy. He's not a dev and he's not a producer/money guy, so he doesn't detract from or add to my enjoyment of WoW one bit. So, erm, bon voyage?
Eyo was alright but I can't say the forums will be much different without him. I still miss Tseric--the hardass of the wow forums :(
He was a whiney cry baby and the most unprofessional CM I have ever seen. He stooped so low as to engage the enraged shaman forum after he failed in his position.
He was fired!
