Fallen Earth : Exclusive Free Game Giveaway!

Posted Mar 03, 2010 by Craig McGregor

With St. Patrick’s Day upon us, the Fallen Earth development team has decided to host a month-long “Shamrock Shindig,” partnering with MMORPG.com to offer free copies of the game, in-game events, prizes and a 50 percent off discount on the product from the Fallen Earth online store.

Partnering with MMORPG to export folks to the Wasteland free of charge, today Fallen Earth will offer the first 2,000 participants to visit MMORPG a free, valid product key for the game (a $39.99 USD value)!

But that’s not all. The luck of the survivors continues! From March 10–17, players who happen to run into a mysterious leprechaun roaming the wastes will enjoy some lucky Shamrocks, said to provide a handy buff!

And finally, to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Fallen Earth staff is hosting a pub crawl beginning at 11 a.m. EST March 17 and running until 1 a.m. EST March 18. Clan leaders, Fallen Earth developers and folks from MMORPG will be handing out some free (green) beer to party-goers in game! MMORPG staff members will also be coordinating in-game meet-ups leading up to the pub crawl (information coming soon on MMORPG.com).

Throughout the month, players will have the option to participate in forum contests to score Fallen Earth swag and customers can also take advantage of a special discount—50% off the game at the Fallen Earth online store.

The entire Fallen Earth community is invited to take part in the festivities. Whether a current player, trial user or one of the lucky 2,000 to score a copy of the game, players are encouraged to join in the Shamrock Shindig!

Please see the participation terms and a schedule of events listed in the Shamrock Shindig FAQ

MMORPG will be giving away one Fallen Earth product key per person to the first 2,000 people who register for a key. The product key giveaway is open to anyone, but you may only activate and use one of the free product keys from MMORPG if you:

  • Have not logged in to Fallen Earth within the past 60 days using a subscription and/or trial account.
  • Do not have access to the game based on a paid subscription.

To activate one of the free product keys, you will need to follow the instructions provided with your key to create your Fallen Earth account. Upon activation, you will be asked to select a subscription plan and associated payment method, but will not be charged until your free 30 days are up, at which point you may decide to cancel your plan or continue playing. The key must be activated by 11:59 p.m. EST, GMT-4, on March 31, 2010. If you haven’t activated your account, you will not be able to take advantage of the free 30 days of gameplay.

I just activated - they're gifting you the game client (normally $39.95, on sale for $19.99), and giving you the 30 days of play that you'd get if you bought it.
Regular monthly billing will start on April 2, 2010.

Probably the craziest deal ever. Crazy as in, you'd have to be crazy to pass this deal up. For some reason, when I try to subscribe I get a fund error message. Most likely a bank error that I'll fix up tomorrow when the banks open up. I'm definitely signed up. I have played the trial before, so I had to make a new account, but that's ok. I'm eager to get into the game and give it a shot for real. I really loved the game, and the trial wasn't nearly enough.

Now they give us a free game and 30-days to go with it. Who does that? Nobody I've ever heard of :D

So now we might have the Free To Try/Pay To Play model...it might be a great idea because i have been wanting to try but didnt feel 10 days was an adequate time to enjoy a free trial....

If I like it i will definitely pay to play...

STO needs to due this just to get back some good PR....

Just waiting for the install to end...

Just a warning to everyone: They do require you to give them payment information. I don't think they will charge anything, but if you forget to cancel your account after 30 days, they'll keep charging you the subscription fee.

They don't charge you anything except the ghost payment that is to confirm your credit card, which isn't really any payment at all.

You will not be charged until the full 30 days are up, and only if you don't cancel your account before then.

No not yet

No vehicles do not jump, but they will go airborne off of hills and such.

and did they fix throwables so they work like there supose to (grenades)

I believe this has been addressed

did they fix water?

Still cannot go into water, but it's irradiated so why would you want to?    Not to mention there isn't really much water to go into.

have they fixed the  overly huge travel times yet  hopefully by puting in a train instead of some lame teleporter?

There is no fast travel, or mass transit.  All travel times are via mount or  by foot.

and did they correct shotguns so they are usefull and actually work like a shotgun and not a big bore rifle?

I use shotguns on my rifleman and they work great.  Not sure what issue you may have had with them but they are very useful for close up encounters as a rifle character.

See my response above your post

also  i was in beta  which had zone 1-2-3  any changes there?

Still sectors 1-3 with plans to add Sector 4 fairly soon.  There is already a map, without any waypoints, accessible in game

zone 3 was prety stark

Sector 3 just had a nice addition recently which added 50-60 quests and the level cap was raised to 46.

I use shotguns on my rifleman and they work great.  Not sure what issue you may have had with them but they are very useful for close up encounters as a rifle character.

if you look at the details the shotgun uses the exact same physics as a large bore rifle,,  translation it is a scopless short range heavy rifle(a slow one) with a smaller magazine,, your better off with a heavy scoped rifle  and there is no multi target  so when a shotgun should be weapon of choice for zombies mutants and soft armor targets   they actually end up being the worst choice.

I really appreciate your response  do you know of any changes  after beta?  in beta zone 3 was the final zone

fixed the lag in cities,

recent graphical optimizations have improved this in many areas but you will still get a slight pause in Emery and Oilville when first arriving due to texture loading when they are heavily populated.

the broken patcher,

There still seems to be the rare occasional issue with the patcher, but a quick scan of the tech support forums will usually yield a fix for you with a few minutes of searching.

the poor tech support

I have always found tech support to be very helpful as have most others I have spoken with.  I am sorry you weren't one of the players that received good service but if you give them another chance, I think you will see it was the exception rather than the rule.

and the various assortment of bugs in the game?

There have been numerous patches over the last several weeks addressing many of the minor, glitchy bugs players have reported.  I'm not saying is bug free, but I feel pretty confident stating there are no major game breaking bugs, and most of the minor ones have been addressed.

Then my answer is yes they have addressed the vehicle physics.

I am not aware of this problem, and have not heard of anyone complain about it as of late so I would say it has most probably been addressed

Shotguns are still single target.  The ones I have used were no slower than a rifle, mostly quicker depending on which rifle you're comparing it to(assult-no, sniper-yes), and have reasonable magazines although I don't believe I've seen anything that holds more than 8-10 shots.  I can usually mow through any mob with 2 shots usually though as the shotguns usually pack a higher initial burst than rifles.

I really appreciate your response  do you know of any changes  after beta?  in beta zone 3 was the final zone

Sector 3 is still the last zone, but as I mentioned in another response, there was just a big update to Sector 3 which added 50-60 quests, some of it group quests, and raised the level cap to 46.

I've got 39 cents on my card, didn't plan on renewing, only playing the free month and cancelling my sub almost as soon as I finished subbing. Did it with DFO, played the first month, unsubbed before charge. I also had like 2 cents on my card at the time I did the payment info for DFO.

Just wanna know, is paypal gonna charge me ANYTHING?

paypal will charge you nothing, but most games will not accept you card unless it has at least $15 in it...even though they will not charge you.

This charge is not actually billed and just a verification that the card is valid.  The authorization hold on that dollar is released in a day or two.

If you have less than $1.00, then you need to get more than that.

I can understand where you are coming from, but this is not a full-fledged promo... it is like a reward to those who are part of MMORPG..it is not available for some of the other gaming sites nor on their website.

It is a promo and a reward for having one of the best, supportive and evolving communities online.

If noone has ever noticed, people who are involved with MMORPG, whether directly or indirectly (like forum posters) really have an impact on the industry as a whole.

Just look at the latest debacles with STO and Allods.

We, as a community, voice are opinion and things get done.

We can quickly make or break a game.

We are responsible for the success of EVE.

We have driven up the sales figures for DDO.

And we have also told GPotato where they can stick Allods.

I think we tend to overlook our strengths here and Fallen Earth understands this.

What they are doing is nothing short of ground breaking.

Word of mouth will be huge, more people will tell their friends, more 10 day trials will go out and within a few months, they will have turned a nice profit and got a new loyal fan base to a game that people want to play.

I say Kudos to them.

Oh well... Ces't la vie...

I'm not complaining about this free box that's given. I know MMORPG drives sales and points potential players to a good game (trust me, FE is a good game).

I'm also complaining about the 50% off which is advertised on their main site now. That makes me kinda feel had, but as I said as well, Ces't la vie. Fallen Earth is worth the $40 I paid, and coming from Europe it's still a lot cheaper than games actually sold in Europe ;)

To a couple that have mentioned not being able to activate the game because you have less than $1 on your card.  It requires $1 at least because FE will bill $1 to your account and then credit it back to verify that you have an active account.  I have a $1 hit in my bank right now.

I'm so glad I just happened to stop by the website last night before I went to bed, saw the promotion and was like.. wow! free game??

So I spent about 10 mins setting up an account and starting the DL, this morning everything went very smoothly, the patcher did bring up an error but I just left it as it was still downloading a small patch in the background. After it finished I restarted the patcher and everything went very smoothly.

Just finished the tutorial and I must admit I'm very impressed, has a very SWG feel to it.

Thanks MMORPG and Fallen Earth for the opportunity to try this out!

Had that happen to me too when steam sales came on 1 day after I paid full price for it.

only buy games on tuesday and tursdays, that is when the sales usually go up.

For those that play... did they ever add any kind of player housing? If so, how does it work. IE is it like UO were you can setup a player village anywhere? or is it like LOTRO where there are specific areas.

I'm so happy I was one of the few to get this free key! I absolutely loved Fallen Earth, but the realization that I would be out of the trial in a few days left me depressed and no longer willing to put forth the effort to play. Now I have a full 30 days to play and make something out of the character I'm playing, rather than wonder how to play the game..

~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!

Man, they went quick!

Damn, missed out lol. Ah well, I've played before, and the game is a nice change to all the fantasy cookie cutters out there. The combat's a little flawed, but a lot of other aspects make up for this several fold.

I hope this boosts the Dev's sales, Fallen Earth seems like it could be the next EvE.

Not yet, but it is something that is coming. It's not something that they want to rush though so it will probably be a while yet...

It's in the works, but no ETA yet.

They did however introduse the crafting skills that are going to be the base for it. Along with camps.

I only got to play this for 3 days before OB ended lol, was rather sad I missed the chance at one of these keys, until I read that creditcard/payment info was needed to even register and use it. So now after reading here i'm glad I didn't get one, because it would of been wasted and unused :P

So have fun all, and goodluck with not getting charged unexpectedly at the end of the month, since i'm sure there will be people that forget to "unsub" when this key runs out.
