Age of Conan : October's Letter from the Game Director

Posted Nov 03, 2009 by Michael Bitton

Age of Conan Game Director Craig Morrison addresses the community once more in this latest Letter from the Game Director. This month's letter focuses on a number of new initiatives Funcom has taken to cultivate the Age of Conan community, the new Recruit-a-Friend Program, the Volunteer Program, the upcoming 1.06 patch cycle, and more!

One of the more notable changes unveiled in the letter is the new Age of Conan community database. The new database will keep track of all Age of Conan information including developer posts, news, etc with the intention of giving players a centralized location to get their Conan information. The database is currently still in testing, but you can take it for a test drive here.

You are aware that forum posts are not MMORPG.com news stories? Right? :)

Sorry MikeB, it wasn't meant to be offensive.

As for me being aware of what is what, I'm completely aware of the above statement. I'm just slightly concerned that you are not very keen on delivering quality, up to date news articles as they happen.

Something four days old is front page news worthy? Why? Especially when the article is available where 99% of the fans for this game will check first - the appropriate game forum.

I've noticed this trend in your postings, you continuously post previously available information as "front page news". Anyone that checks out your past postings will notice this trend as well.

Frankly, I find the quality (or lack thereof rather) to be dramatically low from you when compared to the other staff who post front page articles/news snippets. This is just my personal opinion and isn't meant to be personally offensive, just a critique of what I consider to be poor journalism.

Censoring my signature was a lowball move though, the reviews posted here are indeed amateur, myopic and nonsensical, and my statement on the lack of proper journalism taking place here was one hundred percent accurate.

Prove me wrong by providing quality, up-to-date news and reviews, and I will gladly change my opinion on the subject. Until then though, I have no issue expressing my discontent, and until now I have mostly kept it to myself.

No hard feelings.

Not everything can be covered in a single news day, your opinion is noted, however. If you have any other feedback please send it through the appropriate avenues, such as our suggestions forum or to community@mmorpg.com.

We are also planning on revealing much of the Korean version of Age of Conan in November with our partners at Neowiz culminating in the GStar show in Busan late in the month. I am really looking forward to getting to visit our gracious hosts again and to get to show more of the game to Korean gamers!

It reads as if they are trying to launch AoC in Korea via Neowiz. I wonder how popular the works of  Robert E. Howard are in that country and whether they will get it? Sure the AoC game has been substantially improved from launch, but is it actually the sort of game the average Korean online mmo player might want to play? If not it would seem just to be bad publicity for Funcom if it failed; after all, if they cannot crack the mainstream NA/Euro market with a re-vamped game will launching in Korea be more likely to succeed?
