Mythic has announced that their fourth and fifth expansions to Dark Age of Camelot, Darkness Rising and Labyrinth of the Minotaur are now free to subscribers. Those of you who are giving the game a trial run should be sure to appreciate this generous gesture.
This latest announcement ties into Mythic's "Come Back to Camelot Campaign" which is aimed at getting veterans to take another look at the now venerable MMOG. Veterans who resubscribe to the game will receive an additional 10 days of game time free of charge.
For more information check out the official Dark Age of Camelot website here.
Been seeing a lot of great articles from you Mike, you know the right information to bring to us!

Aw, thanks!
the main reason I don't play this game is just cause the community is so small now. maybe this'll bring some vets back for a bit... it could be fun!
I tried playing again like a year ago. I think I tried several servers and they were all ghost towns. No chatter in zones, hardly any people at all. The few I saw all seemed to belong to only a couple guilds and where extremely insular (or maybe just bots). This is likely just a prelude to the shutdown, so they can say "well, we tried".
They need to pull an Anarchy Online and get to work on a graphical overhaul. They won't get anyone new if everyone's first impression of the game is as ugly as that.
Obviously you have not played this game. Graphics are not that bad. Besides anyone with an iota of brain matter knows that game play trumps graphics any day in the week.
The big problem in this game is lack of players.

I have played it recently. I just think that they need to update the graphics to really try to stand out. If DAoC is praised for its gameplay elements, then it needs to update its looks so that it can draw more players to it, thus taking a step towards filling up the servers once more.

I agree - but before they make too many graphical improvements, just remember that DAoC and WAR both use the Gamebryo engine.
What's wrong with WAR's appearance? Or are you saying that WAR and DAoC are similar enough that if they updated the visuals, it'd just look like WAR?
i love how everyone complains about lack of players yet one of my best friends still plays this game and sees RvR action all the time.... plus ML raids and still can throw in time to grab some artis once in a while......game is low on pop dont get me wrong but it almost seems like people are not even trying they just pop in a starter zone and see no one but dont even bother to look behind them...but once the new server is out pop will be strong
in the next couple of months they are creating a new server called ywain and basically EVERY character across the cluster will be moved there (apart from mordred/gaheris) they are allowing classic toons as well onto the toa server they are going to provide some free mls / artis or somthing along those lines.
as for ghost town i play gmt and can always find a fight if i want one
The first problem with DAoC is with EA itself. They don't have a good track record of continued development in franchises they own. Seriously, EA keeps talking about how they'd love to do another Populous or Dungeon Keeper game.. yet they never do. Madden games haven't been that much different year to year cept for prettier graphics when they went to the 360/PS3. So I don't expect any new expansions since, after all, WAR is now their new baby. At least til TOR comes out then both DAoC and WAR will be put on the back burners.
The next problem is that people that still play are heavily into the RvR aspect, which means DAoC is not a "newbie friendly" game to start from scratch with. Even if you're a former vet, you'll still be WAY behind everyone else in realm abilities.
DAoC had the best pvp system of any MMO I've ever played, when I played it. I enjoyed my stay there, but sorry EA, I need more reasons to subscribe than you giving me old xpacs for free.
I wouldn't play DAOC again unless they completely scrapped new frontiers and un-borked bow mechanics.
New frontier took the RvR out of RvR and made it more like WAR is now. Travel is too fast...everything is too close together...map gives you too much info and really takes away the need for scouting....they basically destroyed the epic war they had created.
I guess you can still 8v8, that's a plus. No other game has gotten that right, or even understood that people who can get a group together prefer that over 200v200 zergs 24/7.
The big battles have their place at sieges and such...but they pretty much suck when its just a lemming run on a day to day basis.
