Tabula Rasa : Epic Caves of Donn

Posted Dec 08, 2008 by Keith Cross

The folks at Tabula Rasa have announced that they have remade a version of the game's Caves of Donn instance into an Epic level instance intended for higher level characters.

One of our long term plans for Tabula Rasa's group content was to create Epic versions of our best instances. These Epic Instances are intended for a full group of level 50 players, with numerous boss encounters and special, repeatable missions where players could obtain unique weapons, armor, prestige, and Mimeomech.

"Caves of Donn" is the first instance our team began retrofitting with Epic content. Since we recently made many updates to the regular version of this instance, we felt this would be a wonderful opportunity to re-introduce the instance to higher level players that may not have gone back to play it at a lower level.

This instance features the full host of Epic Bane, including Caretakers, Technicians, Soldiers, and the newly created Ravagers and Seekers that are also found on Earth. A special boss version of the Hunter also makes an appearance at the end of the instance, with powerful electric attacks that can bring down an unprepared party.

Players that want to adventure in the Epic Caves of Donn can find an entrance off of the CELLAR, right across from the entrance to Edmund Range. Just inside, you will be given two missions from Commander Harley. Completing these missions will give you a nice reward that includes Mimeomech, prestige, and your choice of a Series 3 Pistol, Shotgun, Chaingun, or Rocket Launcher. These missions are repeatable, so you can eventually earn all of these high powered items.

They are. Looks to me that they are just adding some fun stuff for the players who are sticking around.

Yes indeed. There is no point to gain special items that will be utterly gone in a couple months. While it is nice they are adding content for the seven people still playing, it is even more of a slap in the face for them afterwards. I assume they pretty much had this done and ready to impliment and are just dumping everything they can into the game for the hell of it.

If they REALLY want to impress us and show they are concerned about the people who hung out and played the hell out of this game they should release the client code so fans can still play after they shut down their servers. THAT would be a great gesture.

They couldn't add content when the game had a ( small ) chance of being successful, but they can add it when it's on the chopping block.

Gets funnier every day.

I logged in, checked the Surplus store... saw nothing, and cancelled my sub.  Why play if the game is already dead.  Richard "space cadet" Garriott could spend 8 months training and go into space, but couldn't do what it takes to keep a game he started afloat.  If anyone buys a game from this guy again, it should come with a free slap in the face for being such a retard.

I agree. After the stunt Brad McQuad pulled and now the stunt Richard Garriott has pulled.

Both these guys should go hide in shame, never to return into the gaming industry.

Shame really. They were once icons in the industry and now went down in flames due to their greed, stupidity and fame getting too high up in their heads (wich was litterly the case for both of them, Richard did went into space and Brad spaced out on drugs lol).

Cheers

Yes there is. There is still a few months to use them, and if people enjoy to play the game, then they will stay and get the most out of them. And yes, they had it pretty much done. They said that it didn't have as much polish as they want, which makes sense as to why they would want to wait until it would be very polished, with how much people critize TR.

If the devs/DG wanted to do that, they couldn't. Its NCsoft that is closing the game, and considering what they did with AA, its really doubtful that they will release the code. Considering the devs are still working at getting out what they can within the next few months even though they know at the end of those months they will no longer have their jobs, I think they are doing the best they can, which is good enough at least for me and, seemingly, most of the remaining players.
