Lord of the Rings Online : New Developer Diary

Posted Feb 22, 2004 by Reed Hubbard

Teos, Lead Quest Designer for Middle-Earth Online has posted a new developer's diary over at the MEO website.  This is a nice writeup covering quests and questing theory.

One of MEO’s big questions was how to get people to the content. MMOs are, by definition, massive worlds with lots to do and, generally, very little direction, giving players an unprecedented amount of freedom in their play experience. Single player games, in stark contrast, tend to usher you from one thing to the next with varying degrees of linearity along the path they set before you, often avoiding the possibility of players not knowing what to do next. These two opposing philosophies and many assorted combinations thereof have worked successfully on many games. The quest team is on a mission to figure out what approach will work best for MEO.

It's definitely an interesting read.  Click here to view the diary.
