Today, RealU announced that they were developing an MMO based on the Otherland novel series by Tad Williams. Today we present the first screenshots to come out of their labor. The images depict Lambda Mall, a main social hub in the game, and various modes of transportation in this space.
See all of the screenshots here.
Holy crap!!!! That is the Matrix in ShadowRun!!!
It looks colorful and interesting.
OMG...
This looks so cool. And when a game looks cool, no one plays it...
Dangit
I hope people can get out of their WoW/WAR mentality and try something new, unique and different!
yes, it does "look" cool
how far out is it anyway
ya know what i wish - - - i wish absolutely no one announces any more MMOs until they are only about a month away from beta - this waiting thing is just ridiculous
Well color me impressed, that's actually a damn fine shwoing for that part of the Otherland series. I hate to say it, but once again I'm cautiously optomistic about yet another really, really early-in-development game.
Who is RealU? What else have they done of note?
Looks promising. Keep us up to date!
Amen!!
Wow....Tad Williams, huh? Well, here's hoping your first forray into the MMO race (and aparrently the video game race as a whole as well: http://games.ign.com/objects/142/14286038.html) is successful. The screens look awesome and the Otherland universe opens this game up to being more than just your cookie cutter MMO. Let's hope they try to capture that spirit (you can't get much more diverse than the set of main characters in the books) And not try to eliminate it for some middle of the road focus group friendly boredom.
It's Singapore company. There is nothing on their site but huge recruitment advertisement.
P.S. While nothing is clear, but we will hope for the best.
looks awesome
The best part of this is Tad Williams was at the launch. That speaks volumes.
reminds me a bit of the lawnmower man... (plus Shadowrun's Matrix of course
)
This Otherland series while a bit long winded is one of tad William's best works. If this company successfully translate what Tad put into words then this will be a sleeper hit for sure. The sheer amount of worlds presented in the story is easily enough content for a luanching product.
Here's an update for anyone interested: http://www.tadwilliams.com/
That's the author's official website & blog. He goes into a lot more detail about the game there and has a ton of concep art shots plus a few more screenshots as well. He's really, really excited about the project and is working very closely with the game developers so there is actually a chance this game could be quality after all.
