General : SOE Offers Account Safety Tips

Posted Mar 18, 2008 by Keith Cross

SOE has posted tips for keeping your account safe across their network of game sites.

Account theft isn't isolated only to those who choose to trade or share their station accounts. (which is ignoring the EULA!) As the internet and online gaming population grows, so does the cesspool of scammers. There are a variety of ways in which people will attempt to gain access to your account, and the list grows everyday. Fear not, there are simple tips to ensure that your account is protected. Keep in mind these worn-out (but useful!) words of wisdom:

Sharing your account information is never a good idea.

Gamers have heard the advice before, yet a lot of people still opt to share their account information with close friends. Having a guildmate complete a quest for you while you're sleeping may seem mostly harmless, but bad things can happen. While it doesn't always end in catastrophe, you could log back in with a new last name like "Lovetrollslongtime" or something slightly worse which might result in a banning. It's not always obvious, malicious attacks that cause good accounts to go bad!

I'm sure we've all heard the fateful stories of guildbanks emptied and outfit members booted. Sadly, this is often a direct result of sharing account information. Not only do you run the risk of virtual strangers reeking havoc on all you've worked hard for, but you make it difficult for SOE's customer service staff to investigate and resolve issues.

More focus on gameplays guys.

What is that?  PR disinformation to draw my attention away from what really matters?  Gameplays!

Why is there no PvE variations server rules yet while there are many for PvP?  Isn't EQ a PvE game?  Then why doesn't it behave as such and offer variants PvE rules, at least twice more than the amount of PvP variants....and RP isn't a variant for either, so cross that one.

Back to the Original topic if you want.  Many guilds, still loyal and playing customers, are infested by players who will do a LOT to gain your information.  From praises, to ego talk, to wide comments in the guildchats, their technics are many.  See, Township Rebellion would talk openly about the great thing someone accomplish and how amazing this player is; and we are talking about the leaders of the guild here!  So, again, who are you trying to fool/talk to with this argument?  I never share my account info, and never would, unless that person means more to me than the game itself...and strangely enough, it seldom happens. :P  I guess I am a bad anti-social person.

When SoE ignored afk grinders in SWG they finally changed the EULA to accommodate them.

I'm not saying it's a good idea to share your account info but maybe SoE should practice what they preach when it comes to their own EULA.

I just find it a lttile hypocritical.
