I hope you enjoy the visuals, and keep an eye out soon for our SWG Combat Upgrade Q&A.
SlashDot has posted a call for questions in response to the Combat Upgrade recently released in Star Wars Galaxies. As you know, there has been a lot of uproar and turmoil surrounding it.
Since last week my inbox and submissions bin has been overflowing with complaints and rants about the Combat Upgrade put into Star Wars Galaxies last week. Players are speaking out all over the internet, and the media is responding. If you've had first hand interactions with the combat upgrade (either positive or negative) please leave a comment below describing your experiences with the changes, and pass on word of this thread to all the players you can. Think of this as a call for interview questions, because I'm going to formulate queries as best I can and see what sort of information I can get from the folks that I know at Sony Online. Here's your chance to be heard, folks. Use it well.

Also, we at MMORPG.com have sent a Q&A on this subject to the folks at SWG, partly with your help. Look for it here soon!

GameSpot has posted a nice little look at the upcoming Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Included is a video interview with Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler.
Like other fantasy games, Vanguard will feature a host of fantasy races from which you can choose your own character, including humans, barbarians, and dark elves. Sigil's Jeff Butler openly cites the character creation system of Star Wars Galaxies as being "probably the best one out there today." That game lets players make numerous adjustments to facial features, such as eyes, lips, and ears, but Vanguard will expand even further on this sort of detail, since it will feature an adjustable skeletal system that will let you adjust the distance between facial features (such as how close your character's eyes are to each other).
Shannon "Mercury" Drake, the Community Manager for Gods & Heroes, has dropped by our boards to let us know about a Q&A and a inspiration/reading list that were posted on their official boards.

Our Lead Content Editor Dana Massey has recently conducted a brief interview by telephone with VR Studios about their recently announced Pirates of the Caribbean Online. A snippet from the article is below:
Recently, Disney and VR Studios announced Pirates of the Caribbean Online, an MMORPG from the markers of ToonTown Online that lets you be a pirate in a game based on the famous movie and theme park ride. MMORPG.com took the opportunity to learn a little more in during a discussion with Steve Parkis, the VP of Premium Products for Disney Online, and Mike Goslin, the VP of VR Studios who are developing the title. Recently announced, the game is in its absolute infancy, and will not even be at E3 2005. This, however, did not stop us from gleaning some interesting nuggets of information.

Eyes Out Entertainment is getting ready to commence their alpha-phase testing for Tatsumaki: Land at War. They will be allowing community members and pre-order customers to enter the alpha test. The have asked us to share this message from them:
APRIL 27, 2005 Greetings from Eyes Out Entertainment, A year ago today, we launched our first site with the hopes of introducing a new concept to the world of online multiplayer gaming. We've learned so much from our fans over this time and hope to continue our success so that we may produce a totally unique experience for all. In the past year, we have listened to our fans and incorporated their ideas and suggestions into Tatsumaki: Land at War. We've seen and participated in some outstanding debates on our forums about improving realism in the game environment, how our combat system will work, methods of travel, and how death will influence the world, among other discussions. We believe we are one of the first development teams to take ideas directly from our fans and incorporate them into the game. We are proud of this fact, and hope to continue doing so as we enter the next phase of development. However, before we begin the critical phase of game system programming, we will alpha-test our custom-made engine to ensure that it fits within the specifications of the overall project. Our alpha test will be limited to team members and those few who have supported Tatsumaki: Land at War. Please be sure to keep yourself informed on the main website, register, read and participate on the forums, Wiki and even check out the occasional posts on the Developer's Journals. The links are included below: Main website: http://www.tatsumaki-online.com/ Discussion Forums: http://www.eoeforums.com/ Wiki: http://www.tatsumaki-online.com/wiki/ Developers Journals: http://www.tatsumaki-online.com/journals/ Until next time, Raj "hashc0de" Community Manager, Tatsumaki: Land at War Eyes Out Entertainment

Woody Hearn, perhaps better known for his fabled GUComics than his interviews has conducted a good length interview with Brad McQuaid, the pointman for the upcoming MMORPG Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
I guess that's the real catch-22. The fundamental advancement mechanism in these games, unlike say an FPS, RTS, etc., is time invested. You advance primarily by the time you invest into playing the game (although there are certainly other factors -- who your friends are, how well you socialize and maintain relationships, your general knowledge of the world, gameplay strategy, etc.). And as long other games in the genre really do seem to have created a product that promotes the selection of "group mates" based entirely on the items they carry.

Remember, you can also take a peek at Woody and other comics from around the web in our Cool Comics section!
Recently, some have noticed the resemblance between some new monsters in screenshots for Irth Online and those that populated the cancelled MMORPG Wish. I just wanted to confirm that Magic Hat Software did indeed make a purchase of some art assets from Mutable Realms, after the cancellation of Wish, for use in Irth Online.
