Beta tested it week ago. Played 15 min before I uninstalled it. If you liked city of heroes / villians then you will love it. If you just thought meh not bad city of heroes / villians then you will not love this :) ( or even like this )

Just got a key!

So, question: This is more of preview and less of a BETA?

Is there a separate, real BETA running side by side?

Ya would have been fairer to split the keys up into bundles of say 250 at a time and release them at different intervals through a 24 hour period

Well, the gaming world does not revolve around the US. For gamers in the EU, Asia and even NZ/Aus the event started at a totally reasonable time ...

There will be other opportunities to get your hands on a key. I myself have def. lost out on some similar events because they were in the middle of the night (gmt). That's just how it goes.

Anyway, looking forward to see if CO is any good

I didn't say that it should revolve around the US.  But for a US Game, coming form a US developer, you'd think they would of spread to keys out a little.  I know the same goes for games that are featured in other countries.  Not saying they should of held out for US, But like the above posted stated, maybe even spread them out a little so all the corners of the world could of had a chance.

Besides it's no big deal, Betas lately have been a dime a dozen, with many disappointments.

Two reasons.

1) MMO'ers have become cynical. Hype hype hype hype, release, disappoint - that's the standard mmo cycle. Beta comps like this are too good to pass on. I imagine even folk not even remotely interested in CO entered the comp just on the off chance they might enjoy the game.

2) Then there's the curiosity factor. This is the mmo trying to release with both a subscription and microtransactions. It's like a two-headed donkey in a zoo - everyone would want to get a look at that.

Not necessarily:

I've been testing this game before even closed beta, and even though my first impression was mixed to bad, I am actually really enjoying the game now.

I'd rather seen a drawing. Doing it this way is great for those up at 3 AM, but at least for me, it doesn't do a lot to generate good feelings for the game.

LOL, this has nothing to do with the game. The Keys are released to the site. How they are distributed is up to the site not Cryptic.

Of course it does. How many keys, who they are given too, when, and all that reflects to some degree back to Champions. I'm not saying its a huge deal, only that for someone on the fence it can add another little negitive.

I've noticed a recurring theme when closed betas start opening up a bit more... not everyone understands the difference between a closed beta and an open... I think right now a lot of testers are getting the wrong idea...  I still have some mixed feelings myself.. but I'm not logging in to "play" the game to see if I like it or not, I'm testing to test.
