Jumpgate Evolution : Spacecraft Information

Posted Sep 19, 2008 by Jon Wood

Codemasters has just released some new information on spacecraft in the upcoming MMORPG, Jumpgate Evolution.

A wide variety of single-pilot combat and utility ships ply the spacelanes of our jumpgate network. All ships may be described as either combat or commercial vessels. However, there is considerable variance in ship design based on intended role, and by the specific nation, faction, or corporation that produces and uses the ship. For example, the Slipstream is a Solrain combat ship classified as a patrol fighter and produced by an industrial division of the Zelcane Trust. Its characteristics differ from other patrol fighters that belong to the Octavian Imperial Navy or that are produced by a Quantar corporation. Even individual Slipstream-class ships may be customized by the pilot’s choice of loadout and other modifications, either emphasizing a strength of the class, or mitigating a weakness. The options available to pilots for customization of any particular ship vary by the specific ship class.

Jumpgate Evolution : PAX Hands-On Report

Posted Sep 05, 2008 by Jon Wood

At this year's Penny Arcade Expo, Carolyn Koh had the opportunity to get her first hands-on look at NetDevil's upcoming MMORPG, Jumpgate Evolution. In her report., she talks about controls, the feel of the game and how it managed to somehow avoid activating her motion sickness.

Netdevil showcased Jumpgate: Evolution at Penny Arcade Expo this year together with Dolby sound & voice technology and Plantronics’ new gamer head sets. I had been given a sneak peek at the game at the Ion Conference early this year but this time we were given the chance to actually fly a ship as Netdevil had set up 8 laptops to run off a local server, giving players the chance to play a few bits of an alpha build.

“Why and how,” I asked Herman, “did a graphics overlay for Jumpgate turn into a completely new game?”

“It took on a life of its own,” answered Herman. “We did one thing, and then another, then we wanted to put in all those things that we didn’t have in Jumpgate and before we knew it, we basically had Jumpgate II on our hands. We have a robust player economy system designed for Jumpgate: Evolution. Manufacturing (tradeskills) is in game as are Auction Houses, better AI, and just a slew of other features.”

Jumpgate Evolution : Beta Re-Sign Up

Posted Jul 03, 2008 by Keith Cross

In the wake of the recent Jumpgate Evolution site revamp, NetDevil has announced that players will have to re-sign up for the JGE Beta, and they have posted a guide to make the process go smoothly for players.

You will have noticed by now that we have launched a fresh new website and forums through our publisher Codemasters Online’s existing web space. We’ve done this for numerous reasons, but the most exciting of course is that we’re getting ready for the testing process. We know that this may create some confusion for our existing fanbase, so we wanted to send out a letter to help you through the new registration process and address any concerns that you may have.

In order to prepare for this testing process we need everyone to re-sign up to Beta. We know that this is inconvenient for a lot of you, but we feel that by using the CodeM system, we’ll be able to better select from our pool of applicants. We all want Jumpgate Evolution to be an incredible game and believe that by using this system, the process will go more smoothly.
