In fact, according to a post on the official forums, NCsoft has laid off about 20% of their staff. We are told, however, that the “decision has no impact on the schedules of any projects currently in development and service to NCsoft’s current games will continue without interruption.”

The Saga of Ryzom: Re-Review

On Monday, Donna Desborough took a second look at The Saga of Ryzom. Top points for the game go to the customer support (10) and community (9) categories, while sound took the short end of the stick with a ranking of 6.

Here are some interesting quotes from the review:

  • The Saga of Ryzom has been out for over a year now, and it's time to take another look at the game after such a long time.
  • A lot has happened with the story for Ryzom, and the players are taking an active part in the events that will shape the future.
  • The community of Ryzom has got to be the best I've ever seen. Whether in game or on the forums, the players are always willing to give a helping hand to new and old players alike.
  • The detail of the landscape is some of the best I've ever seen. I could wander around for days just looking at all there is.
  • I'd definitely say Ryzom is worth the time and energy to play. I may be biased because I have been playing since beta, but that doesn't blind me to its faults. Every game has problems and faults though. Nevrax have learned to listen to Ryzom's players though and this can only bode well for the future of the game. We are shaping the world, and for once the game company is listening.

This one, a continuation of our ongoing series pitting writer against writer, sees Garrett Fuller go head-to-head with Dan Mann on the issue of studio size. Which is better? A big studio, or a small studio?

Not only do the staff writers give you their opinions, but many of out MMORPG.com members have already joined in the argument. Click here to join the debate!

Game of the Week

Game of the week

This week’s Game of the Week is Lineage 2. Lineage 2 is a game that takes place in “a war-torn land spanning two continents, where trust and betrayal clash as three kingdoms vie for power.”

The game’s official website puts a focus on their Combat, Uniquely Specialized Races and Classes, Raising Dragons, Parties and Clans, and Dramatic Castle Sieges.

Recently, our own staff writer Laura Genender took a second look at this game just after it’s second anniversary of operation. You can read more about that in the MMORPG.com Reviews section of this newsletter!
