On April 28th (Friday), Guild Wars Factions announced its official launch. This marks the second in the Guild Wars series of MMORPGs to be released by ArenaNet. Factions has already started to generate hype, tied with the fourth highest rating on our site at 8.2.

Webzen’s Soul of the Ultimate Nation, or SUN, announced a push-back of their original open beta testing date of May 2nd, to May 15th. Here’s what webzen’s CEO had to say about the decision: “After the success of MU, as a leading company in this industry, we want to continue to lead the next generation games through SUN. Even taking into consideration all the risks associated with the service delay, we believe that through these new contents, we will be able to satisfy all the SUN users with high anticipation”.

Two of NCSoft’s titles celebrated a two year anniversary this week. Both City of Heroes and Lineage II have now officially passed the milestone. Each game had its own unique form of celebration.

Shot Online: MMORPG's Exclusive Review

With the warm weather finally starting to show its head, I thought it might be fun this week to take a look at an old review that we published on one of the only sports MMORPGs on the market, Shot Online. The Shot review was written by Mike Jobbagy back in September of 2005. The game, which garnered only a 6.9 rating from our reviewer, has fared a little bit better from our readers, who gave the game a 7.9 rating. Here's a sample of what Jobbagy had to say:


If you’ve ever played any golf sim before, you’ll already know how to do pretty much everything.

You can buy better equipment, balls that increase power, impact, skill, clubs, clothes, etc. They also have a website where you can purchase items with real money, such as things that will buff you and give you double experience, or double NG’s, increase your stats, decrease fatigue and more.

The graphics are pretty well done, if nothing spectacular.

Game/On: April Finale Show

With April now in our memories, and May staring at us from the front, MMORPG.com has released the April finale version of Game/On. Under the new podcast format, we promise to bring you a finale show once every month that includes Mike and Jon’s discussion of issues that are hitting the MMORPG gamer, as well as an interview from our own, Dana Massey.

This month, Dana sits down with Sean “Ashen Temper” Dahlberg from Wolfpack Studios. As you may or may not be aware, Wolfpack was the company responsible for the MMORPG, Shadowbane. Recently, the company announced that it would be shutting its doors. They discuss the implications of that announcement and more!

Mike and Jon, meanwhile, discuss the social aspect of MMORPG gaming, as well as the possibility of using MMORPGs as a spectator sport. To download the whole show, click here.

Gods & Heroes gets the spotlight shone on it this week. Sometimes overshadowed by Perpetual Entertainment's "other game" (*cough Star Trek *cough*), Gods & Heroes is actually slated to come out first and carries the weight of big name publishers Sony. Recently, we caught up with the men behind the game for an interview.

Defined by tactical squad-based combat, Gods & Heroes starts you as the child of a Roman deity in search of fame. You're the hero. As you travel and gain experience, characters can hire and earn comrades in arms who then join them in their own instanced military camp. Combat is highly tactical and visually interactive through the company's stellar animations.
