On March 28th (Tuesday), MMORPG.com broke the story that Wolfpack Studios, the developers of the game, Shadowbane, would be closing its doors. It had been recently announced that Shadowbane was moving to a free-to-play format. The company has since said that they will continue the game running until at least May 15th, but beyond that, the future of the game is unknown.

MMORPG.com is pleased to announce that we have been busily making upgrades to our site. Because you, our readers, have helped us to grow so quickly, we found that we had outgrown our old server. This week, we moved the site over onto three servers and upgraded our forum software. So come on over to MMORPG.com and check us out.

On March 29th (Wednesday), our own Michael Hampden sat down with the makers of FreeWorld: Apocalypse Portal. This is impressive, because the project called Freeworld was recently cancelled. On its heels, however, is a completely 100% re-designed product called Freeworld: Apocalypse Portal. Mike sorts it all out for us in his interview.

Hello again, Everyone,

I wasn’t going to write a letter for this week’s newsletter. I was going to do something different, but I just absolutely had to sit down and talk about one of the most frustrating and at times, entertaining, days on the calendar. April 1st. April Fools Day, at least in North America. I know that some countries do things differently on the 1st of April, but we use it as a day for jokes and pranks. I’ve never been a fan of it, personally. Usually staying in bed until it was over. Still, now and again it was fun. Like this past Saturday, for example. There I was, minding my own business, trying to get some news posted on the site, when I hit Blizzard’s website and started laughing. Classic.

Late on March 31st, Blizzard announced the “new Alliance race” would be “The Wisps”. Yup, little balls of light. They have the ability to die permanently, to turn into a tree (it’s ok, they’re 50% more vulnerable to axe attacks) and there are billions of color and facial hair combinations for character creations. Ok, so maybe I can’t flat out prove that this was an April Fools joke, but if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. Still, I’d advise everyone to go and have a look at the page on Blizzard’s site, at least as long as it’s still there, and decide for yourself. There’s lots of debate about it over on the Blizzard forums, why not join a discussion about it in our own community!

On March 29th, nomadian, one of our members, posed a simple questions on our forums. “What are the top 3 MMORPGs that you are looking forward to?” I have to say, that already with 3 pages of answers, I was surprised with the number of different games that our readers are following and waiting on for release.

    1. Darkfall
    2. Twilight War
    3. Machines (The one from MMOCenter) - JimLad
    1. Vanguard
    2. Roma Victor
    3. Trials of Ascension - Bahk
    1. The Chronicle
    2. Hero’s Journey
    3. Age of Conan - remyburke

All different answers to the very same question. I encourage you all to take part in this thread, adding not only the titles that you’re watching, but the reason that you’re watching them.
