CCP continues their series of Dev Blogs in advance of the release of EVE Online's Apocrypha expansion. The focus of this particular blog is on the revamped new player experience.

I want to get one misconception out of the way. This blog will concern you and everyone else. If you have played for a year, 6 years, 3 months or a week, you will want to read further than this. Chances are there will be changes that will affect you! Although NPE in it's very existence focuses on the new player and how they are introduced to EVE, this can have an effect on older players as well. Many believe that the NPE extends only to the first 5 minutes. With some games, this might be true. But as we have all gone through the first months of EVE and often thought; "oh my, this game is too hard!"

Blog Spotlight: Darkfall Beta Review is proud to play host to the many bloggers that call our site home. Occasionally, an entry of such quality and relevance is posted that we feel like we just have to highlight it so that everyone can enjoy it. Today, with the lift of the Darkfall NDA, a post was made that we simply couldn't pass up. The blog is called Paragus Rants and the entry is Review: Darkfall Beta.

For those looking for a great overview of the game and what it's about, you're in for a treat as Paragus1 has clearly put time and effort into presenting an even and balanced look at the game that he has played so far.

Darkfall Online is a game that is not for everyone. The nature of the game is such that you will either love it or absolutely hate it depending on your playstyle. If you are a casual gamer, someone who does not like harsh PvP in an MMORPG, or you place a heavy emphasis on graphics, there will probably be little here that will appeal to you. On the other hand, if your MMO history involves playing games like Ultima Online or Asheron's Call, like PvP with consequences, and value gameplay over graphics, there is a good chance that this game will provide you with something you have haven't seen in a long time.

This week's Game of the Week is Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Star Wars: The Old Republic's existence was one of the worst kept secrets in the game industry in 2008, being at the center of many rumors about a sequel to the Knights of the Old Republic series of RPGs. The game was even unofficially announced a few times, most notably by EA head John Riccitiello.

With the amount of hype surrounding this game before it was even confirmed to exist, it is not surprising that readers voted the game's official announcement as the top story of 2008 in our Reader's Choice Awards.

Since then the folks at Bioware have been posting weekly updates on the making of the game and it's content, including a host of screenshots which can be viewed here.

Did You Know?
Did you know that we launched a new theme for last week?

A few weeks ago we launched the new layout for the site, including the new color scheme which featured more shades of gray than a Dwarven rainbow. If you weren't a fan of the light color scheme, or you just want to see something new, we invite you to click on the dark box at the top right of any page on and take a look at the new dark theme.
