Will it Work With Vista?

On Valenties Day, MMORPG.com Staff Writer Steve Wilson took a look at the good, the bad and the ugly Windows Vista as he chronicles his own experience with Microsoft's new operating system and how the new software affected his MMORPG experience.

Here are some memorable quotes from the article:

  • OK, I'm going to assume that you have already managed to get Vista installed on your system. You checked the compatibility, your PC can handle it, your hard drive didn't melt when you installed it, and now you're ready to get back to your favorite MMORPG.
  • Vista has a decent default [video game] driver for your desktop, but it's no good for gaming.
  • You'll also want to make sure you have working drivers for things like mice, keyboards, and other add-on cards you may use. This sounds obvious, but some companies don't have a working driver yet, and it's hit or miss with XP driver compatibility.
  • World of Warcraft started right up under Vista, no fuss, no muss.
  • Everquest II started up just fine in Vista. It ran well for 20 minutes, then crashed to desktop.
  • I had absolutely no problems with any of the three Guild Wars campaigns.
  • Vista has the potential to be a great operating system for gaming, but right now it's more work than pleasure.

Game of the week

The Game of the Week this week is the newest game to be added to our Game List, Corum Online. Developed by NetTimeSoft, Corum Online has been brought over to the North American market from a successful run in Japan and Korea. This free-to-play MMORPG boasts what they call a "flurry of quests and a very advanced guild and dungeon siege system" along with PvP Seige Dungeons and the ability for players from one class to learn the abilities of another class: "For example, a Fighter can learn the same casting skills as a Sorceress. For these reasons, Corum Online will provide a unique gaming experience for players of all ages and experience."
