EverQuest II: Echoes of Faydwer: Launch Day Preview

This past week saw the launch of a new expansion for EverQuest II. Echoes of Faydwer first saw the light of day on November 14th and along with it came an MMORPG.com launch-day preview from Carolyn Koh. Below, you will find a number of memorable quotes from the preview.

  • Echoes of Faydwer also brings a new player race to EverQuest II, the winged fairy folk known as the Fae.
  • Echoes of Faydwer brings back the ancestral homeland of the Wood Elves, High Elves, Gnomes and Dwarves.
  • Two favorite dungeons have survived the ages. Crushbone Keep, the low level dungeon of Faydwer remains in all its Orcian glory and although I'd heard that D'Vinn the 100th was in resident, did not see him. Castle Mistmoore - that wondrous Gothic castle of yore is as frightening as it ever was. I did not make it that far though I played tourist and took screenshots of the cemetery and the gigantic gargoyle a hapless traveler attracted.
  • Sony has tried to create an expansion that plumbs the depths and breadth of player experience.
  • New Tradeskill systems also come into being with Echoes of Faydwer, and craftsmen will be pleased to know that they need not give up their current skills to learn Tinkering or Transmuting.
  • I can say that the Echoes of Faydwer is easily the prettiest of expansions to date with plenty of eye-candy and atmospheric effects as well sound and music to round off the immersive effects.

EVE and Game/On

Recently, Senior Editor Dana Massey headed over to Iceland where CCP Games makes the hit Sci-Fi MMORPG, EVE Online. As a result, we have two great preview articles concerning the future of CCP and EVE including the announcement that White Wolf and CCP would be merging, Avatars for the game and more.

The first article talks about the White Wolf merger and Revelations I, the second article discusses walking on stations, Linux support and other announcements, and the third is a media gallery of photos and screenshots from the show. Later this week, he will conclude the series with a final article on some of the high-profile presentations, Revelations II and Revelations III.

This week on MMORPG.com's Game/On, Jon and Garrett return to talk about the excitement of the launch of the PS3 and the Wii, the new Burning Crusade release date and the CCP and White Wolf merger.

Game of the Week

Game of

the week

This week's Game of the week recently announced that it would be free-to-play throughout its English language lifetime. Voyage Century is developed by Snail Games and takes players back into the 16th Century.

Voyage Century is a unique fully 3D MMORPG that allows every player to captain their own battleship around the game world. This game also gives player the choice of what kind of seafarer they might like to be. Pirates, merchants or even explorers, they're all there.

The game itself has been in development for nearly four years and claims that the graphics are "so fine that it is like a movie".
