On May 5th, MMORPG.com received the announcement that Sigil, the company responsible for the upcoming MMORPG, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, would be partnering with Sony Online Entertainment to co-publish the game. This involves transitioning from Microsoft Game Studios, which was originally slated to publish. “As the development process is ongoing and constantly shifting, it became clear that MGS and Sigil had varying visions and direction for the title’s development,” said Brad McQuaid, CEO of Sigil Games Online. “In the best interest of Vanguard, it was decided that we would buy back the publishing rights from Microsoft.”

MMORPG.com Headed to E3

Dana Massey recently gave us a rundown of MMORPG.com's coverage of E3 2006:

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3!) is the most exciting time of year for the gaming industry. Each year, developers and journalists gather in Los Angeles to see what is coming. It sets the tone for the year to follow. For E3 2006, MMORPG.com is bringing you unparalleled coverage of the MMORPG genre starting Monday.

Eight of us will be in Los Angeles next week. We’ll hit the ground running on Monday with blog entries and meeting reports from Acclaim, Darkfall Online and more. Tuesday, you’ll hear about the Legend of Ares, Fallen Earth and the blog entries promise an interesting twist as the parties get under way.

As mentioned, we’re sending eight poor souls to Los Angeles. All of them have written for the site in the past, and most have even worked on the other side of the fence. In addition to the regular slew of game articles you’ve come to expect, we’ll also feature a blog that carries tales of adventure, non-MMORPG related observations, photographs and more. In addition to myself and Jon Wood, our staff includes: Michael Hampden (Game/On Co-Host), Carolyn Koh (formerly of Stratics developer relations), Danielle and Ray Vanderlip (Danielle is the former Assistant Community Manager for Shadowbane), Garrett Fuller (a former financial reporter for Bloomberg) and Laura Genender (long-time MMORPG.com writer, also a strategy guide contributor). Also, do not be surprised if Sean “Ashen Temper” Dahlberg, of Shadowbane fame, shows up.

In the preview, Dana gives a detailed rundown of the games that we will be speaking with, as well as some information about our own E3 awards! You can read the whole preview, here

Game of the Week

Game of the week

This week’s Game of the Week is last year’s E3 Best in Show winner, Hero's Journey. Hero's Journey is a game that promises "More Fun. Less Tedium.".

The developers say that there will be "A special emphasis is placed on Character creation tools that provide an extensive amount of flexibility, both in terms of character appearance as well as character abilities. This attention to detail is also reflected in beautiful environments, and compelling, dynamic mini-quests."

MMORPG.com has been fortunate enough to be the recipient of a series of weekly exclusive screenshots from this Simutronics offering. As of May 2nd, we had reached Week #45 of exciting screenshots from this upcoming game!

This week (Wednesday to Friday) MMORPG.com and the rest of the gaming world will be in Los Angeles for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Since 1995, the show has been held each May in either Los Angeles or Atlanta. In recent years, it has moved exclusively to its current home in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The show is spread over four halls. The South Hall is where most of the major iconic images are from. Light shows, loud music and large crowds dominate. In the West Hall, the overflow from the giant spectacle of the South is available. Smaller titles can be found in the quieter Kentia Hall downstairs. In between is the Concourse where many companies have meeting rooms.

According to the E3 website, the 2006 show will feature 400 exhibiting companies from 80 countries. To see the 1000 plus games on display will be tends of thousands of media, fans, developers and celebrities.
