Developed by Silverlode Interactive, SAGA is billed as "the world's first persistent online real-time strategy game." The game blends traditional fantasy RPG elements with RTS and trading card games. SAGA offers six different factions to choose from with strategic battles and MMO features. The game is free to play in very limited form, or fully unlocked with a paid upgrade. However, upgrades in the form of "booster packs" must be purchased with real money for players to gain new troops, regardless of whether players are using the free or paid clients.
