Been playing through...

Diablo 2

Baldurs Gate

Anarchy Online

Age of Conan (including every other Age of mmo that was ever released)

World of warcraft

list goes on and on... 14+ years on mmorpgs.

I cannot play world of warcraft anymore... There's just nothing fun about it... Done world first's in wotlk... 16 x glad. The game just has nothing new to offer. It is complete...  There's nothing left to do other than the same stuff for the last 5 years... just with new gear added.

I haven't played it in roughly 2 years... Activated my account and maybe played 2 hours in the last month.

Diablo 2....  Not looking for hack and slash play persay but... the pvp aspect of character movement... Dodging attacks etc.. Age of conanesque

I was really thrilled about diablo 3 coming out after so long... and decided after much debate it was a fail.

Anarchy online... truely a favorite of mine... CUSTOMIZATION!!!! not every person rolls the same character... not everyone uses the same gear... A lvl 60 can twink into the same gear a lvl 120 wears. True world pvp that included controlling vast amounts of land as an "Org" or guild. These land control areas gave boosts to the entire guild.

I am not looking for the NEXT big game... Just something that is newer... not too much of a stress on vid card.

Something dynamic... Where your character is unique... Where you can be exponentially better than others. Full customization... from attributes to skillsets...

Please help... Any suggestioins are appreciated. Would really like to avoid cash shops...I have no problem paying a fee or subscription but, don't want a game where cash makes your toon better.

To be clear... Not a game that a 13 year old is interested in. Something that requires some actual ability to play as well as in building your toon.

True gamer, eh?

You know what's out there.  The only new stuff now in the AAA arena would be The Secret World, which I am very much enjoying currently.  Then at the end of August there will be Guild Wars 2, which will probably be the biggest game for a while.  If you are into MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2 is likely going to be fun.

There's more stuff coming down the line later, but if you are looking for something immediately to play for the rest of 2012+, then those are basically it for new games.  You could also try Rift, which is a nice game if a bit too familiar.

EDIT:  If you are into a bit more sandbox type stuff, you should start following development of The Repopulation (see my sig).  It's shaping up to be a very deep game.  It won't be out until 2013 though.

If you liked WoW all those years you may enjoy vanguard. ITs similar but has many more features that wow lacks and seems to focus more on exploration thatn anything else. Ive also read that the world is bigger than vanilla wows. I am currently enjoying it. Also, for 20 bucks a month you can have access to vanguard, eq, eq2, planetside and a whole slew of mmos you may like. Just because a game is super populated doesnt mean its the best. There are some real gems out there waiting for you, Vanguard among them. :)

Ill add vanguard to my list...

The secret world has come up on my radar multiple times... Customization being the key element.. I'm just not sure what the game is about lol.

honestly If someone has ever played anarchy online.. that's really what I'm looking for... Land control... World pvp... Dynamic PvP not just mash buttons... But maneuver as well. The one thing world of warcraft lacked.

Some sort of aiming like age of conan where you attack in a direction... not just tab and lock onto a target.

I played WoW from original beta up to halfway Cataclysm andI have the same problem as you. Still sub for a month or so every ones in a while, but I get borred after a day or two. Truth is I have played almost every big available and there aren't really any new ones who are that much different. I'm now playing Secret World. I really like the refreshing non fantasy theme, the story and the skill system. It's kinda like a horror lovecraft kind of style, with real puzzle elements. But in essence it doesn't do much new. Still, if you want a couple of month fun, you might want to try it. And then there's GW2. Even though I kinda look forward to it, I've played the beta and it's mostly an improved version of WoW. Then again, it might be unrealistic to expect a game to entertain me as much as WoW did in the day. Just because WoW was my first introduction with mmo kind of play. And nothing becomes as good as a first love. Doesn't make the other games bad. A lot of them are even better. But not different enough to make as much impact. To get back to your question, try Secret World as an MMO. As a singleplayer RPG you might not have played, try Witcher 2. A very good mature RPG for real gamers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yMIcKmsbzk  Secret World Trailer that is very well done.

Its a modern day horror theme game.  The stories and missions are extremely well done and theres tons of creepiness.  It also has a freeform skill system instead of levels with 3 factions.

I also highly recommend it!

That brings one game to mind.  EVE.  Guessing from what I've read, about 3 weeks of gameplay to get comfortable with it and maybe months or years to master.

I don't hate WoW... it's just done... I've been there done that over and over... My server sucks... I'd rather pay for another game than 1 character transfer let alone 8.

Leveling... progressing is fun... endgame is exciting... but once you have done it... what do you do... keep winning glad titles... or dealing with the same 24 idiots day after day just to raid content you've completed. Arena get's old... bg's are fun and all until you don't need to do them anymore. Raiding is awesome when content is new and not nerfed.

Arena was cool until everyone uses the same gear same build.. same team composition and is imbalanced... Luckily my main is a rogue so was always competitive.

I know I'm just venting at this point haha. Give me something worthwhile!!!.

I didn't even realize anarchy online and age of conan were Funcom... They seem to always have a good concept just unable to execute a game launch properly.

Ok so... games to try... Rift..TSW..Vanguard...

TSW being my front runner I am downloading as we speak. I appreciate the actual input and the lack of mocking and trollage attempts.

i am also a fan of AO. loved that game for a long time.

honestly as far as land control and dynamic pvp is concerned.. or just non-linear open ended do whatever you want style gameplay is concerned.. EVE online is the king of all MMOs in that regard.  if you don't like spaceships though your choices fast approach crap with a side of jack s.. well anyways..

look into darkfall or mortal online if you're dead set on a sandbox.  they are both underdeveloped and the odds of either one of them being your cup of tea is pretty low statistically.  i know people who truly love each game though.

in the big budget department there is WAR which has some good territory control in it but the game developers really dropped the ball on class design, game balance, and the PVE game.  the only other big territory control game i know of is Guild Wars 2 which isn't out for a month or two but does look to play similar to WAR but with many many great improvements including but not limited to a PVE game.

yeah with the 20x skill gain and considering yourself a 'true' gamer I suggest Darkfall it will test you.

A true gamer isn't going to play something casual like Darkfall though.

They'd play a real PVP game which is actually about competition.  Basically any of the non-MMORPG PVP games where zerging or gear/progression aren't major factors (the exact opposite of casual Darkfall.)

No recent games are like AO.. I think Ryzom is a little, but it's definately not new. It has the learning curve that AO has and a lot of group orentated open world events. It's probably the closest you are going to find.

It's free to play so it can't hurt to check it out. I might check it out again myself actually if TSW doesn't last all way until GW2.

TSW/GW2 System requirements?

Just curious what is the vid card requirements on TSW and if possible projected requirements of gw2.

Running an old 8800 GTS oc but looking to build a new system. Games like Rift are a bit of a Strain on the system.

But, would be more than willing to upgrade for tsw/gw2 if needed.

Maybe Tera? I hear it's combat is like this.

I would suggest Guild Wars 2 but it's not out yet.

As a true gamer, you probably already know the situation but hoping to be surpriced :)

There are no mmorpgs I can recommend that are not old, but one game has hold my interest for about 500hours so far, Dungeon Defenders.

DD is not a mmorpg, it is a defense type of game like a tower defense game in 3D where you also control a hero with equipments levels and so. It looks strange and cartoonish at first, but if you arent put off by that, the strategy element and progression is great. It is only on Steam (pteu) has alot of DLC (pteu), but despite my feelings toward both, I have to recommend it :P

It is repetitive in some ways, and not everyone will like it, but it took me with surprice.

I have been playing TERA since release and am still loving it. The combat is second to none! I really wasn't expecting to play it very long because I was Sooo looking forward to playing The Secret World as soon as it had released and Guild Wars 2 after that. But Surprisingly I am still in TERA loving the combat and exploring the amazing environments and am no longer planning on playing TSW or GW2 anytime soon although I am sure I will at some point... This has never happened to me before. I usually get bored of every game I play in a couple of months at best. Weird!
