I no longer see 'a parting tribute' at the inn in Gran Soren. Is this permanent? Or do notice board quests have some sort of an idiotic cycle? Any help is appreciated.

Escort missions, once they show up on the board, are actually timed, unfortunately. If you take too long, they will poof.

Likewise, if you progress too far into the story, some side quests will also no longer be available. That's pretty typical to JRPGs afaik, though.

Well, in your first playthrough you only have access to one crystal that enables fast travel, but your second playthrough will allow you to up this to 10, if I remember correctly. Basically, you can cover the whole map this way, and it serves a pretty similar purpose to fast travel. 

My biggest complaint about this game were the super weird romance subplots and kinda forced romantic scenes. They were reaaaaaaaaallly awkward since you essentialy end up with the NPC who has the highest affinity to you - say, the Inn Keeper, lol.
