Driving in America. On some roads is it possible for attention to be devoted elsewhere like on your mobile phone?
I'll explain, I know an American who joins a chatroom. And is using this irc while driving. Explaining that it's perfectly safe. To us Brits, it sounds crazy but I'm aware you have very long roads with not many cars on them at all. Is it safe? Or is this person taking risks?
Idiots know no national boundary. If they are driving and textng then they are idiots. If they are a passenger then it's better to be texting you than talking to the driver and distracting them.
It is true that there are plenty of long roads with few cars on them out here, it is however never safe to divide your attention by enough to type out a message. Talking is one thing, it doesn't significantly take away from your ability to sense your surroundings, but for text, you have to look at and focus upon your screen rather than the road for extended periods of time.
It is not safe in fact in most states in the US it's illegal to use your phone while driving. Texting while driving is particularly frowned upon.

People who do thathave no respect for human life, they wont learn until they kill someone with their car.
