Mysterious and interesting of the races. Which could lead into some interesting lore in game if the developers are imaginative enough......Which i have no doubt they are.

When you get something fresh like this, their story could just go in anyway...there is no set path.....no background lore that HAS to be followed like with the human vs charr story arc.

So i will be definately picking this race first, Cant wait to see how their story unfolds in future updates/expansions!

I found sylvaris intriguing...

Maybe that´s the reason i left most Sylvary area untouched during the betas...

even though i plan on playing Asuran as main... Sylvaris hold a secret.

The lore & specially the music surrounding Sylvaris are winning me...

Am i one of them?...i hear the calling...Am i just a Confused Sylvari beeing born?

AMAZING SOUNTRACK!: http://youtu.be/qOMQxVtbkik

Because they live in a cold climate, of course.   The larger your overall mass is the less surface area you have relative to your mass, so you don't lose heat as quickly.   Despite being a fantasy game, clearly the ecology follows Bergmann's rule.

Back on topic, I agree about the Sylvari.  I did not think I would like them as I don't like "elves" in typical fantasy settings and, at very first glance, they seem like the GW2 equivelant of elves.     Of course, that's a totally ignorant way to look at it, so once I actually knew more about them I changed my mind quickly.    They are now my favorite playable race in the game and I'm dieing to learn more about them.

They're just elves.  They like flora and fauna.

You obviously didn't even created a sylvari to do the starting quest to understand what theyh actually are. ;\

nah.
elves are just humans with pointy ears.

They're like the elves IMO. Except made from plants. Especially the way they're connected to nature and trees. VERY lord of the rings-ish. It's not a bad thing though. Addition of the Tolkien elves concept always adds some richness to lore. IMO.

Aye. Asura are so short compared to Norn, they can run around and look up Norn's women skirts. Not that I'd ever do such a thing.

The problem with that perception is that elves in Tolkien are an incredibly long lived race where the elves living today have personal recollections of very, very long ago events.   This affects everything about them within Tolkien lore.

Sylvari, on the other hand, are newborns.  This affects everything about them within GW2 lore.

Now...hopefully you can see that these two things are polar opposites and thus...they are absolutely NOTHING like Tolkien elves.

I had the same mistaken impression as you initially, then I took the time to actually learn more about the Sylvari and realized just how far off base I was.

Not to sidebar, but that rule also states that over time limbs become shorter. Currently minoring in Antropology and while my focus is towards cultural, we still learn human origins and I remember that while the torso thickens, limbs become shorter to adapt for less distiance for bloodflow to get to the ends of the limbs. This isn't the case for norm since thier arms ar soo long. Thought I'd add my 2 cents.

OT   my wife has fallen in love with the concept of the race since the redesign. I thought the starting area was ok, but I never touched the personal story so I am saving that tidbit for release. Origionally they were my least faveorite but I think that title has fallen on the topic of our sidebar.

Beta's are tough. One one hand you want to play through but then you don't want to ruin your post launch experience.

I played up to level 9 I think but I did grind a bit as I wanted to play proper when its launched. I also thought they were an elf rip off but that impression was soon changed.  Besides both races liking trees etc (except for dark elves), there really isn't that much in common.

Myeah....no.  The connection of the Sylvari is to each other and the dream.  They are not an ancient, wise race in decline.  They are a race that's 25 years old.  With all the naivete' and wonder that goes with that.  They are very much evolving with each generation from the tree...oh yeah they are plants, not humanoid.  They are connected to plants and trees..because they are one. So no they are not elven, nor are they elf like.  Their story is extremely different than Tolkein lore.

The idea behind them sounds cool.  I'm not to sure I like the look of twigs and leaves sticking out of my head though.

No wonder most Inuits are short ...

Yeah the rule really doesn't apply to heaight. It is meant to explain why they are barrel chested and short of limb. Height is actually wrong. And I am glad you labeled them by their proper name since eskimo is offencive.
