Lineage Overview
Lineage was a fantasy MMORPG developed and published by NCSoft. Originally released in 1998, the game featured 2D isometric-overhead graphics, and according to NCSoft, had over 43 million players take part in the game.
Lineage's gameplay was centered around a medieval castle siege system that enabled owners to set tax rates and collect taxes on items purchased in stores within those cities. Character alignment largely determined how monsters and town guards reacted to the player's character, often turning hostile to chaotic players and attacking on sight. The game had seven classes, including Elf, Dark Elf, Knight, Prince/Princess, Magician, Dragon Knight, and Illusionist.
PvP was a huge part of Lineage. PvP could occur anywhere outside of "safe zones." By joining a "bloodpledge", or guild, players became eligible to engage in castle sieges or wars between guilds.
Lineage's North American servers were shut down in June of 2011.
