Ok, that’s probably not our best title, but we’re running with it. H1Z1: Just Survive is now titled just Just Survive, as it’s breaking free from King of the Kill, and running off into its own zombie filled world with its own lore and own mechanics. The Daybreak Games team has been hard at work since October of 2016 overhauling most everything. The result is a game that is recognizable to its original release, but far more polished and playable today.
Last night was a bit depressing. After HiveLeader’s excellent first impressions and livestream video, I was pretty excited for H1Z1. Even knowing how Early Access goes and how alpha builds get wiped and are pretty buggy messes, I’ll admit that the thought of a PVE sandbox zombie survival MMO has my interest piqued.
When some of PlanetSide 2’s best and brightest developers stepped away from the game several months ago to work on a new secret project, you sort of knew something special had to be in the pipe. It wasn’t long before we found out that it was SOE’s new survival horror MMO, H1Z1. No, it’s not a game about rampaging STDs, but rather a game about shambling zombies.
When I first watched the stream where John Smedley, President SOE, announced H1Z1 I was more than a little concerned in the direction the development of the game would take. After my meeting with Adam Clegg, one of the developers working on H1Z1, to discuss development on the Survival Horror MMORPG I have started to believe this game can do well in the genre.
