We Track Down Mr. Politi To See What's Up

Mark Politi of Planetwide Games took a few moments to answer our questions in light of recent staff departures, the suspension of their $1,000,000 tournament, and some very damning reviews. Here is the interview:

MMORPG.com: Recently, you announced that your core draw - the $1,000,000 tournament - has been suspended. Can you go into the unethical activity vaguely described in the release and why you felt it had to be suspended?
Mark Politi:

We found that the integrity and fairness of the Tournament was compromised to the detriment of fair and honest Tournament game play by other players. We took these breaches of Tournament rules and regulations very seriously and took action to suspend the Tournament pending evaluation of these breaches. We also believe the core draw of the game was and still remains the compelling battle system, customizable weaponry, and challenging game play.

MMORPG.com: Is the funding still there to continue the tournament? If so, what - if any - plans are there to resume it?
Mark Politi:

The issue of fairness & integrity of the tournament for all players is the issue regarding continuation of the tournament. The Tournament is currently suspended based upon these and only these issues.

MMORPG.com: Some players have said that they bought the game with the belief they'd be in the tournament and now feel cheated. What do you say to them?
Mark Politi:

We believe most players in the tournament were being "cheated" by dishonorable participants, which forced us to suspend the Tournament.

MMORPG.com: There have been rumors of upheaval at Planetwide, with one high profile developer (Chip Bumgardner) having definitely parted ways. What were the reasons and how many people left the company?
Mark Politi:

As with most companies, we do not comment on personnel matters.

MMORPG.com: Recent reviews of the game have been less than flattering. Can you comment on this and what you're doing to improve the game?
Mark Politi:

We are working with the game developer Youxiland Digital Co., LTD to provide upcoming patch upgrades and enhanced features

MMORPG.com: Obviously, RYL is an adaptation and not an original game. Do you have plans to do your own game?
Mark Politi:

We are currently developing our own game titles.

MMORPG.com: Can you give us a general assessment of the game's health and long-term viability?
Mark Politi:

The game play on the current servers remains fast, furious and is growing rapidly. We are entering the season of the year where many video game players are getting new computers for back to school and Christmas. Many of these gamers have never tried a Massively Multiplayer Game and are doing so for the first time with RYL. RYL: Path of the Emperor continues to build a strong base of users and has a strong community of rabid players.
