UPDATE: During a Flashpoint Reddit AMA today, Mike O'Brien confirmed that an expansion IS on the way and, if we go by his timing, likely coming this fall!
We announced that today’s episode, Flashpoint, is the second-to-last episode of the season. Yes, that means what you think it means: there’s one more episode after this, and then straight to the expansion pack.
A lot of you have been wondering about the upcoming release cadence, given that last time around we took a long break from Living World releases to get Heart of Thorns out the door and then to support that expansion after release.
The good news is that this time around we have two separate fully-staffed teams that are both hitting on all cylinders. So our rough plan is to slot the expansion pack into the release cadence as if it were an episode: episode 5, then episode 6, then the expansion pack, then episode 1. But we’ll make some allowance for the fact that shipping an expansion pack is a big deal logistically and will probably take longer than the 2~3 months we normally allocate between episodes.

EARLIER: The Guild Wars 2 Reddit has new post packed with nearly fifty images that may indicate a new expansion is on the way. The first several show new Elite Professions with 18-skills each: Deadeye, Firebrand (Guardian), Spellbreaker, Holosmith, Mirage (Mesmer), Soulbeast (Ranger), Scourge (Necromancer), and Renegade (Revenant).
In addition, there are some gigantic new maps: Elon Riverlands, Crystal Highlands, The Desolation, Domain of Vabbi. There is mention of Crystal Desert Weapon Collections, images of new mounts and mention of abilities that many of them possess.
Some interesting things of note:
- Domain of the Vabbi map ties back to GW1 and the Nightfall campaign
- Spellbreaker also has ties to GW1
Is it possible that this expansion (if this is all true) will be similar to Nightfall and take us back to Elona? Will we see the Paragon and Dervish classes? What do you think?
