Warrior Epic: Launch Day Interview

The new microtransaction based MMORPG Warrior Epic is scheduled to launch today at 5PM PST. In anticipation of the launch, Keren Kang, the Assistant Producer on the title, took some time to talk about WE and its launch.

Interviews By Jon Wood on May 19, 2009

MMORPG.com:

Can you tell us a little bit about what Warrior Epic is all about?

Keren Kang:

Of course! Warrior Epic is set in the fantasy world of Orsika, on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Providence. This kingdom was named after the last remaining hope to put an end to the hundreds of years of chaos brought about by corruption of a once thriving Empire. All it takes is a sliver of hope among this tragic history to turn things around. Players will find themselves in command of a Providian Hall (essentially a castle) where they will have access to what Providence has to offer.

MMORPG.com:

What is the business model being used for Warrior Epic?

Keren Kang:

Warrior Epic is a micro-transaction based game with no download or subscription fees. We know at times the model has had a rocky reception in western gaming and while we aren't claiming to be the 'perfect' model, we think we have managed a fair balance in Warrior Epic. We know that the accessibility of purchasing items that allows for 1 hit kills is an extremely irritating experience, so we have been careful to avoid this imbalance. With WE, you'll see a balance between players with more time than money, and vice-versa. All equipment items that are purchased in Warrior Epic serve one purpose: to look awesome; not to BE awesome.

MMORPG.com:

How much of an advantage will players who buy equipment be given over players who do not?

Keren Kang:

If Paris Hilton ever wanted to play Warrior Epic, she'd better have some skillz; otherwise, she'd have to rely on party members or hire a private gaming tutor. But hey, she'll look good trying...that's about it.

MMORPG.com:

Can you tell us a little bit about the localization process that the game went through before its North American launch?

Keren Kang:

The game was designed in English, so our localization process was focused around editing. Possibility Space creates the content, we take the reins in testing and editing that content, and then it goes back for implementation. After multiple cycles of this process, I'm confident that our game not only looks good, but reads well.

MMORPG.com:

How much customization is available for characters in Warrior Epic?

Keren Kang:

I hate to sound like a WE cheerleader, but it's true...I loveee the customization in this game. Most games will have set options: face, hair, accessories...and that's it. Each class has their own style, but they seem like mere versions of the original item. In WE, each class has their own set of options. For example, you can only get tattoos with the Pit Fighter class. Have a love for guns? Make sure to roll an Assassin, because she's the only one who can satisfy that criteria. Not only can you customize the look of your Warrior, but the skill specialization as well. Every level you gain yields skill points, assigned to the skill of your choice.

MMORPG.com:

What sets Warrior Epic apart from its F2P counterparts?

Keren Kang:

The most differentiating factor that sets WE apart from our competitors is the game design. Possibility Space designed WE with a western audience in mind. This simple factor includes several others: less grind, more competition, teamwork...the list goes on.

MMORPG.com:

Can you give us some examples of specific things that have changed in the game as a result of player feedback

Keren Kang:

What a great question! Warrior Epic is all about the “WE” community. Our players have been suggesting that the amount of EXP it takes to level up needs to be decreased. They’ve also been saying that the sub classes need more differentiation. Thanks to their active comments and feedback, players will be seeing these issues resolved for today’s launch.

MMORPG.com:

What, in your opinion, are the “stand out” features of Warrior Epic?

Keren Kang:

I've always been a big fan of the session-based gaming. Not only are WE's dungeon maps randomly generated, they're designed to be 30-45 minutes long. The perfect solution to working gamers, but also allowing for the hardcore types to get much more out of their time spent on the game.

Thank you MMORPG.com for your continued support of Warrior Epic and taking the time to interview
