EverQuest: Bi-Weekly Q&A #6

Carolyn catches up with the SOE folks again.

By Carolyn Koh on April 05, 2006

Travis McGeathy answers some more of our questions

In a general themed Q&A, Carolyn Koh gets answers from Lead Designer Travis McGeathy on housing, city revamps, underwater zones and much more.

MMORPG.com:Player housing? Ever?
Travis McGeathy:

We don't have any plans to introduce player housing in the near future. "Ever" is a very long time, though, and the idea does come up from time to time so I wouldn't discount it entirely.

MMORPG.com:Thanks for the quests to fix Freeport Factions. Will there be possibilities in the future of fixing various other formerly unfixable factions?
Travis McGeathy:

It depends on the faction, really. Some aren't meant to be fixable, but rather just one way trips. For others, thought, we would like to add ways to allow players to improve the factions. The example that comes up the most is from the Tunare worshippers who fought in Plane of Growth. We'd like to add a quest or series of quest into the game to allow them to repair those factions with enough effort.

MMORPG.com:What is the next city to be re-done? Any hints or maybe… just tell us outright!
Travis McGeathy:

We aren't working on any other cities at the moment, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say it would likely be Neriak. We've been concentrating on revamping the zones in the northeast portion of Antonica and Neriak is right there.

MMORPG.com:Why have there not been any underwater zones like Kedge Keep? That was a challenging zone to learn to move and fight in, but one that many old-time players often cite as a favorite zone.
Travis McGeathy:

In general, players don't like fighting underwater. It's very difficult to fight in, particularly as a caster, and we always find that underwater zones have really low usage. Depths of Darkhollow did include some underwater fighting areas, though, particularly in zones like Illsalin.

MMORPG.com:What about future plans to involve the Gods and lore of Norrath? Will we have short-tem changes to entire zones (Karanas / Lesser Faydark) again?
Travis McGeathy:

With Prophecy of Ro, the gods have become directly threatened by Mayong Mistmoore and have returned their attention to Norrath in the hopes that mortals can stop Mayong before he can bring about the fall of the pantheon.

So, while the next major live event isn't planned yet, I'd say there's a good bet that the gods would be involved.
