Elder Scrolls Online Videos: First Impressions with Bill Murphy (15:05)

I'll admit something, that's probably apparent from earlier previews and columns I've written: I've been wary of Elder Scrolls Online living up to the immense hype created by the Elder Scrolls IP. And yet, with every passing time I've seen the game, I've seen many of my worries addressed by (most notably) making ESO feel more like a true entry into the Elder Scrolls franchise. This particular video does give it an ES feel. That clip just looked and felt like something right out of Skyrim. So I guess I am anxious to see what the mmo part of ESO brings about.

If i want to do what you just did in this vid, I can already do that in Skyrim.

Good review. Thank yyou for sharing! Armor painted on kinda of bothers me though.

What is the ultimate level cap for a character in the game?

Looks alright. I guess I have to try it to judge the combat.

However, why not allow the client to render armor better? If its on the client side then why does it matter if its laggy or not. A person could change their settings for when their pc can not handle it.

The whole benefit of pc is that it does more than consoles. And yes, a lot of people have weaker pcs, but at this point playing an mmo means person has a pc that they use to play video games. And thus the argument of not catering to gamers, but people who have home computers to do their school homework is falling back on the benefit of pc gaming. Again, thats assuming, giving the choice if more rendering does not affect gameplay for everyone, and even for the ones that do get affected can alter when the situation demands.

Im sure they had their reasons with clipping issues etc, but if clipping is their only excuse then thats bad. I know swtor has good armor detail, but have major performance issues with weaker pcs. However if swtor fixed their models and lower animation particles for ppl who want those options then shouldnt everyone be better for it? Ppl have choice for high end settings and low end settings.

Take a game like counter strike source. You could literally alter so many part of the game so you can lower the resource demand of the game in pursuit of perfect hit box registration. In such ambitious goals you end up with a game that looks very alpa, but the performance is better. And ppl like that when playing pvp.

So choice. Should be there.

I was expecting Skyrim/morrowind/oblivion online.

What i discovered was a game that had a few and i mean a few similarities but with bad animation, bad graphics that looked like something from 2004 with the only selling point being in the name..

And for that reason i wont be purchasing

I wasnt following ESO at all, but this video actually looks very good. The not-so-great graphic is a very good sign. Focusing on graphic in a game like this would be a terrible decision. AoC had great graphic when it launched - and it was the only great thing about it. The focus in a MMO should be on gamplay, design, combat, balance, stability, content, not on graphics.

I also can't see how it is just like any other MMO. It doesn't look like any other MMO at all, it looks like Elder Scrolls game with multiplayer. Combined with the fact that it focuses on PvP so much, I think it has a chance to be a big succes.

There is no big game  currently (and haven't been for a long time, afaik) that has a big focus on a open-world, faction vs faction PvP, while keeping a story driven PvE (with high quality voice-overs, it seems) and meaningfull, free-form progression.

I'll rather buy a CE of a game like this, than pay for some crowdfounded game that sells in game items years before release (and may as well never release), or a f2p game from huge developer that sells alpha acces for 60$ and makes you work for free on creating another game.

Disclaimer: This doesn't mean that I'm against supporting indy developers, but I see a difference between supporting a developer and buying something that doesn't exist.
