eric_w66 writes: Hehe, I find it funny that DX10 shadows are *worse* than DX9. Any artist who thinks otherwise, go outside when the sun is shining, find a large tree, look at its shadow. Do you see perfect shadows of leaves 100 feet away? Nope. Its all blurry and indistinct. The sun is not a point source AND there is refraction and diffraction occur. So all those chunky shadows of DX9? More realistic (except at VERY short ranges). Tue Jan 22 2008 2:13PM
smut writes: Looks amazing, it better run good on my 3ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of Ram and 8800GT lol Tue Jan 22 2008 2:15PM

Stellos writes: Looks amazing, but don't be fooled by their "shadow effects" some parts in the game are very buggy with this feature and cast F-ed up shadows of impossible measures. Tue Jan 22 2008 2:50PM

maimeekrai writes: "The sun is a point source BUT there is refraction and diffraction." Fixed. Leaves and branches from the top of a tree would be indistict, because they are far from the surface they are projected upon, but humans are closer to the surface and their shadows are more destinct. But hard shadows make me think there is no air to diffact the light. Yeah, that's a little nit-picky but not enough to stop me from playing. To really be blown away, download the 720p version from the AoC Community vidoes page!! Tue Jan 22 2008 5:34PM
PvtCaboose writes: Looks good, ill be getting 360 version. Tue Jan 22 2008 5:42PM
nakuma writes: i would agree with the hard edge shadows. should only be hard edged if the object is close, so therefore it should be distint, with 'air" there should be refraction, and diffusion when a object that is tall and away from the ground should be diffused, and out of focus, when u apply a object close to another object only then should the shadow be crisp and distint and have a hard edge even then there should be a blurry diffused softness. this is main thing i hate about "realistic shadows" Tue Jan 22 2008 6:44PM
nakuma writes: but i am highly impressed nonethelsss with the graphics, lets see how it runs when we actually play. im sure there will be a level of bugginess with the graphics, and especially with the DX10 since developers are just getting their feet wet. Tue Jan 22 2008 6:45PM

Jackcolt writes: Anyone nitpicking the graphics on a technical plane... doesn't know anything about what they are talking about. This is short of amazing when considering it's an MMO. The lighting is truely spectacular. Thu Jan 24 2008 11:52AM
checkthis500 writes: The textures and the environment is spectacular, the lighting is great. But their mo-cap stuff is horrid. It looks more unnatural than EQ2. Whether someone would "really" move like that or not, it doesn't look good in-game. Thu Jan 24 2008 2:25PM
AmazingAvery writes: @ the nitpickers for shadows, these arent even in beta yet as reported. I played about 3hrs worth last weekend and not once did I "Slide"... believe it Fri Jan 25 2008 3:09AM

BoudahXL writes: Graphic technical demo, it's not an in-game demo running.Vanguard had much promesses too with great tech demo, not saying AoC is gonna be a disaster, just pointing out the obvious fact tech demo and game are 2 different things. Is this tech demo rendered or real time, many remember the first Crysis tech demo were all rendered because at the time the hardware wouldn't do it, it can barely cut it as of today! BoudahXL writes: http://www.stage6.com/user/Kiro628/video/1530612/Age-of-Conan-movie-(mix)-1-Requiem Frapped in-game using a 8800GTX, in a couple months/years we will be able to see graphics that nice in-game because this engine support graphics that good atm.Hardware is just not available atm, unless the devs used an unrealeased video card 5 times more powerfull than a 8800GTX! ;) Wed Jan 30 2008 7:27PM

The_Colonel writes: This looks great! I can't wait to play it. And if I may be so bold: If it doesn't run on my machine, it won't run on pretty much anyone's machine. I run an Intel Q6600 Quad Core with a combined processing speed of 10.4 Ghz! 2G of DDR2 RAM and an ATI Radeon X1650SE vid card. I just wish someone would come up with a game that could take advantage of my dual 21.5 inch LCD flat screens. (BTW If anyone doubts what I put here just email me and I will send you pics of my system. It would be an understatement to say I'm proud of it.) Fri Feb 01 2008 2:54AM
stamgren writes: I've the same processor but I've 4 GB of RAM, a geforce 8800 and a 24 inch screen. :P Now why wouldn't anyone believe you? Fri Feb 01 2008 4:45PM

dunesw64 writes: Colonel, that's a pretty mediocre rig you're describing and it's obvious you don't know much about PCs to think that you add the clockspeeds of your various cores. Sat Feb 02 2008 5:04PM
hyperpotato writes: To "The_Colonel" Your a retard if you think that PC is really good. For a start your Quad core proccessor DOES NOT have a combined speed of 10GHz etc. LOL. You obviously dont know much about PC's, also said by dunesw64. Your graphics card is SHIT!!! BOLLOCKS even! I have TWO graphics cards that are almost infinately better than that, running in SLi. I hope you know what SLi is. I have two 8800GTX's. I also have an old Radeon X1650 Pro. The difference is beyond imagining lol. Also, your RAM is pathetic, if your using Vista that is. Still, at least you'll be able to enjoy AoC on low / medium settings XD. Good luck, nubcaek. Sun Feb 03 2008 2:22PM
_Jord_ writes: I was going to flame Hyperpotato for talking smack at The_Colonel until I wrote what he actually wrote. I'm glad you're "proud" of your creation, but anyone with half a head for computers would have told you to save your $ on the quad core, go for a Core2Duo E6750 (or something in that range) and spend the saved money on a REAL video card. Why buy a quad core (which few games actually utilize at this point) and get a terribad video card (which EVERY game utilizes). Oh well. Good luck w/ getting a new card ... PS 10 GHZ combined OMG THATS 1337saws. Mon Feb 04 2008 11:30AM
Thornrage writes: Stamgren I have the same setup. I just upgraded from 20"wide to 24"wide and wow what a difference! Sun Feb 10 2008 9:07AM
DAS1337 writes: I'll take a stab. Most of these people are pretty dead on. It doesn't matter when you have, if you are lacking in the GPU department, you might as well give up. For instance, I have a Core2duo at 2.66ghz, 150g WD Raptor X, Asus Striker Xtreme Mobo, 900W ABS modular, 8gigs of DDR2 800 Corsair XMS, SB X-fi ExtremeGamer Fatal1ty, a new DVDRW, both drives in sata and also running a surprisingly stable Vista64bit OS. Though, I did spend almost a week ironing out most of the kinks. My point is, I have not gotten my GPU yet because I'm waiting for a newer 9 series GeForce to come out. With all of the goodies that I have under the hood, I still can only run LOTRO in high settings. You can brag all you want about everything else, but you're still considered a noob unless you have something powering the rig. Wed Mar 12 2008 11:40PM
DAS1337 writes: However, I think the point here that I want to make is.. This game had ridiculous graphics. They are Bad, Sick, Filthy.. anything you can think of, it is just badass. You better have a nice GPU to play this. Wed Mar 12 2008 11:42PM
