Lord of the Rings Online News - Correspondent: The End of What's to Come

MMORPG.com Lord of the Rings Online Correspondent Dustin Onesti writes this report on his experiences in and around the Book 14 unlock event.

The End of What's to Come...

I say the end only because Book 14 officially ended the first volume of Lord of the Rings Online; and what a journey it was. Good times, bad times, frustrating times, server melt downs, and tons of free content through the book updates. It has been one hell of a ride, and a fun one at that. I look forward to the feared Mines of Moria and what is to come with the future of LotRO. Nostalgia aside, let me get back on track and take a step back to the not-so-distant past.

Blizzard did this prior to their first expansion.  Exact same thing happened, the lag was unbelievable and servers crashed.   While events like this are nice, they are very impractical.  Servers just can't handle so many in one place, at least not with current technology.

Aye, with the epic story line, surely Lord of the Rings Online must be one of the most immersive MMO's out there.  I urge anyone who has not tried it, to give this great game a chance.  No other game is as ambitious, and I cannot wait to see The Mines of Moria.  A whole expansion pack, dedicated to an underground zone!  A legendary weapon system, where you actually level-up the weapon.  Two brand new classes.  A brand new volume in the story line.  A new, story-telling cinematic system.  Graphical overall (which it does not even need!).  Durin's Bane - the dreaded balrog from the book.  Amazing attention to detail, such as no skimping on the 300 stairs to access the mines, all are faithfully and painstakingly reproduced.

I cannot wait!

That article is rather inaccurate in repeatedly stating that Book 14 is the last chapter of Volume One. His complaints about the unanswered questions and cliffhangers at the end of that book are unfounded because the story of Volume One will be concluded in Book 15 that will be released when Mines of Moria comes out.

Precisely, Book 15 will be the finishing book for Shadows of Angmar.

Can't wait for my title: Bearer of Hope! (ok, it's kind of lame title but still)

Once again a game developer caters to the 5% (which ironically is also the average unemployment rate)  over Joe average gamer that  can't endless hours in Middel Earth.

I fail to see why a game event that is open for everyone from level 21 to 50 is catering for the 5%. Care to elaborate?

Well, I guess because it was set in Rivendell? I've been playing the game for almost two months now and haven't been there (only level 28).

Seriously, I'm still on book 2, so I really don't know what he's talking about in the article (other than the ring lore collecting, I did some of that).  But I have no idea what happened once it got unlocked, there was no mention of it anywhere in game I could see...
