OK, so we're a couple of days late on this one, but Cornered Rat Software posted its weekly Q&A on the boards Friday. Here's an excerpt:
The UI. Yup, horrible. We're working right now in production, code and art departments on a complete overhaul of the UI, which will be easier to navigate, far more intuive, obviously more attractive and complete with a lot of added functionality, most of which is part of the whole Deployment/TOE/Mission update that is immediately pending and the resultant changes in Brigade AO's and structures that will function in the game tying rank to supply and military movement in much more "warlike" fashion. The functionality of the High Commands as an operational adjunct to the players in game (rather than just on paper) will increase in visibility and logic, and the setting of objectives will become part of that gameplay and we'll be utilizing all this added functionality into the UI at the same time as we fix it's clunkiness.
This will actually be an ongoing expansion as the new UI will be dynamically updatable, not hard coded like the current clunky one is, and that hard coded limitation is one of the reasons the UI waited so long to be changed, it needed a lot of feature intensive content like we have planned now, to warrent the work it would take to replace it with a far better and dynamic variation that would serve the game into the future far better.
Welcome news indeed! Even the WWIIOL faithful will readily admit that the game's UI is one of the most unwieldy in the MMORPG genre. Luckily, CRS recognizes this and is working to rectify the situation. You can read the entire Q&A here.
