Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning News - Third Anniversary Celebration

Posted by Suzie Ford on Sep 16, 2011  | 37 comments in our forums

Kai Schober has penned a new blog post on the Warhammer Online site laying out the celebratory activities and rewards for the game's third anniversary.

For the next ten days, players will be able to take advantage of double XP and RP. In addition, the team has new veteran rewards with some fun twists:

  • Jack O Lantern Vanity Pet – An exclusive pet for players that is available in four different colors.  This awesome seasonally themed pet is available only through the veteran rewards program.
  • Endless Chaos Black Dye – This item will give you an endless supply of Chaos Black dye to deck out your armor in style!
  • Endless Blazing Orange Dye – This item will give you an endless supply of Blazing Orange dye to make you stand out in battle, plus the color is perfect for the season!

Lastly, Schroeber writes that fortresses are on the way in the near future and the Demon Moon will be rising again very soon.

Worst managed sub MMO on the market?

Most starved game in terms of finance considering the IP?

Worst dev team in the buisness atm ?

Least amount of content any game has released in 3 years ?

Most features removed from a MMO game in the past 5 years ?

Shall I go on ?  Cause the list is much longer.

The only positive.

Only MMO game that focuses on PVP over PVE.  And the result ?  Lack of funds to create new content leading to dead game.

Now...  Learn from it.

Please Mythic...for the love of Isha...just stop ruining Warhammer IP. It has SOOOO much more to it than your little brains can ever fathom(especially Carry Mc Burgeros'). It physically pains me to see what they are doing with it(Warhammer can be quite PvE friendly-examples:Warhammer Roleplay,Inquisitor...but not just regarding that). Example: one of Slayer's Paths(talent trees) is called "Path of the Skavenslayer"(AoE popular one)...and yet they are siding with Skaven???O.0

why hasn't gamesworkshop yanked the IP from EA/Mythic?

All that hype leading up to launch ends in a giant thud!

I'd love to see their financial numbers!

How many paying subs do they really have?

Skeleton crew dev team

how many times has RvR been "revamped"?

so many questions to ponder why this game has failed so miserably I doubt even free to play would save it, if it was even possible to implament

But I give them credit for lasting 3 years, doubt it will last much longer, EA is bound to pull the plug on this disaster eventually

as has been said before.... shoulda just made it DAOC 2

WAR isn't a disaster. In my book it has more worth than games like Rift, AoC, TOR etc... which are all blatant WoW clones, down to the most insignificant detail.

At least WAR tried something different and as far as I'm concerned, it still has one of the best PvP in any MMO today.

great IP, former great team, tons of hype and lets see how they ended up....with a crappy ultraeasy game instead of Daoc 2 with Warhammer skin.

Does anyone know, why they didn't want it to be DaoC 2?

Seeing WoH makes me poke I really hope GW will pull the IP from them soon.

well technicaly i think its EA that owns Bioware and Mythic?

and yes i think out of all the pvp experiences i have ever had WAR had that down pat. they just made the mistake of thinking that 24/7 pvp with some questing to level up would be enough.

a game needs more than one element to keep players actively coming back. one of those things is an economy with meaningful crafting. another would be a larger pve game.

WAR is still live and kicking, EU servers at least are pretty active in all tiers when u play on primetime ofc. theres plenty of openRvR action going on. sadly there is not enaugh new content do the game.

but 1.4.5 should introduce fortresses in new way again. so there is little hope to go back after the patch is deployed.

with WAR i usually play like 1-2 months. then i quit due the lack of content..but there is really no new modern game with such a good pvp, so i allways tend to go back to WAR at some time.

Just fyi war has no dev team left.  The full mythic team from WAR is working on SWTOR, and they work on WAR in very SPARE time.

so its even bigger..but they work on WoH and WAR. And prolly more steam goes to WoH project than WAR

*blinks*

*boggles*

really?  Have you actually played WoW or AoC?  lol, I'll grant that Rift is a lot like WoW but in all honesty to me Rift felt more like playing Warhammer than anything else :P

War PvP is only good if you like gear based PvP where you can mash your face against the keyboard and beat people who don't have as good of gear as you do.  For myself I prefer skill based PvP where everyone's gear is around the same and your actions and skill determine the outcome.  Not simply stacking up stats and auto-winning like War has :/

ARGHH!  Add a true 3rd faction and the game might have a rebirth.  Or even better make a new server type where the six races are all broken up into six or three seperate factions and I bet there would be some influx of new players and returning players.

First off...Welcome to mmorpg Xpander. I know that you are from Warhammer forums...but if you love Warhammer I.P. even a little, you'll let WAR die. I'll give an example: Yesterday I was reading "Choice of Hatreds" an introductory novel to the Mathias Thulmann's novel series(written by C.L.Wernberg). A simple novel of twenty,YES TWENTY,pages(which featured a single battle with a single Pink horror to boot) had more Warhammer Spirit than 1/2 of WAR. There are more examples: Witch Hunters/Elves hiding(lolwut? Hunters demoralize enemies by purposefully showing themselves and Elves are downright narcissicistic...why would they hide in Isha's name?). Then there are Asurmen who are THE MOST BROKEN race I've ever seen in a game, let alone MMO(is any of their class working as intended[AM's are supposed to be healers, not Warlock like, so no DPS AM crap]?).

As is evident I care about Warhammer(hell I have like 5 omnibuses from 40k and soon two from Fantasy-that's like 30 books). I even have TWELVE inactive characters because when I tried WAR I was naive and thought it would get better. After Pay to Win pet(s) I finally understand that WAR is Warhammer just cosmetically(if more people understood that maybe some other, better company could get a shot to try bringing Fantasy to life). Companies include(but not limited to): Relic/Vigil(boy was SpaceMarine good),Arena Net(they make AWESOME MMO's) or some Asian company(Perfect World would literally KILL to get Warhammer I.P.). When I think I'd rather have Gobbos(or Druchii-says leaps and bounds) running Warhammer MMO than Failythic.

Anyways...I just want to get proper Warhammer Fantasy game(even if it is single player and Bethesda made it). Because 40k now has like 3(with Dark Millenium 4) true Warhammer games. Yet fantasy has got what...(that is true question)?

Actually that is wrong, at least untill endgame/T4, in war you are most able to kill someone with a full set when you still are wearing green items "self experience" so no, the gear makes a important role yeah, but if you suck hard at controling the char or just cant combine the skills properly in a fight, no gear will save you, regarding T4 yeah, you can be powned very very hard, but with luck you can support your High geared allies and in time get suchs armors, so in the end you just need time/experience/allies, the game is Far to be a pvp gear based.

WAR was never a bad game. Probably the best PvP of the current modern crop. That said, it ended up being mediocre because of all the little problems they took forever to fix. Such as balancing Bright Wizzies, fixing infinite AP pools or overhauling cities so they didn't suck.

But what really killed the game was stagnation. The RvR, especially following the removal of forts, wasn't properly designed. The non-continuous zones, zone locking, terrible zones (and tiny zones) such as Black Crag led to the mega zergs and the circle capping. And for 3 years, the RvR has been about the same (well, probably worse since the rat pack). A better designed game might have been sustainable, but a mediocre one without any major additions or changes to the RvR system was bound to decay.

It was obvious that the game went into maintenance mode around the release of LotD and the firing of Jacobs. And a lot of people left knowing that little was going to change and we'd be lucky to ever see an Xpack. It's a shame that the only time Mythic got any resources following that was to make a shitty Play4Free MOBA.

Sorry I should have specified that I meant T4/endgame only :)

Actually imo from T1 thru T3 Warhammer is a very good and very fun game.  It wore out it's welcome for me at T4 when it turned gear based and only two factions makes for boring lopsided fights too often :/

Not always. Yeah gear does make a difference, however I did test what my annhilator geared RR83 BW was like playing against RR80-90 much better geared (full sove / rr90 gear) players.

In alot of cases I still slaughtered them. In the beta for the rr100 testing I tested out what it was like being a rr80 sovereign geared  player vs all rr100's geared. I got over 200 kills including many solo ones.

If the rr90 or whatever is attacking the guy with the shield first then they will die to much lesser geared players.

So while gear does make a difference a much better geared plank is still a plank.

Besides its funny when you slaughter better geared players :)

Sadly though I agree what has been done with investment into WAR is a disgrace. I'm not even sure who is still on the WAR team; Carry and Paul Barnet are working on WOH and are no longer on the WAR team.

With most resources going to SWTOR and what is left to WOH I dont think WAR will ever get the investment needed. Its still a fun pvp game though but when GW2 comes out I know many remaining WAR guilds will leave for that.

That being said. WAR was a good idea with poor execution.

In DAOC the population was high for albs, medium for mids and low for hibs, however the fights all tended to be fairly well balanced.

all sides kinda attacked everyone else. what we didnt see was 1 side all quitting and joining the winning side - because there wasnt a clear winning side.

it simply seemed to work out very well, it was alot more unpredictable as to what would happen in every fight.
