yeah I hear you there... its fun to kill some time, but I have been in beta since april... one can only do the same content so many times only to have it wiped again and again before it just stops being the cats meow.

Spore releases on Sunday though... that Im really looking forward to till WAR release.

I think it depends on where you preorder from. At least that's the case here in Scandinavia.

I would phone or visit the store you got it from and ask. I pre-ordered mine and got nothing; when I went back to the store the following week I asked about it and was given the card that I SHOULD have recieved when I ordered it.

EU people that pre ordered the normal edition ( not the collectors edition) will NOT have a key for the open beta.

Only about 5000 people got to play on the EU servers on Sunday, most of those being ex-closed beta members.

Registration was supposed to happen Sunday morning, about 48 hours ago. It is still not working.

We were told to create new website accounts but this wasn't necessary.

We were told to register our keys only once but people who spammed the reg server are now playing and I'm not, after waiting 20 hours.

Account creation is now disabled so anyone without a website account is screwed.

I've taken part in most open and closed beta's for the past 5 years and this one is without a doubt the most poorly handled. GOA have really screwed this up and I'm beginning to lose confidence in them for launch and post-launch.

To make matters worse I've had to pay for this privilege by paying the deposit on a CE box. I didn't pay just for OB but without paying I couldn't take part.

There are no official forums to let Mythic know how we feel about this. On the most popular fan forum you will get banned if you say anything negative about GOA followed by an offensive tirade from the site owner likening you to the few people that sent him offensive PMs. No, I haven't been banned because I'm too scared to post there now.

I just hope this is the best game ever and is worth all the hassle.

The whole thing is a farce, what the hell GOA think they are playing at in the big leagues I don't know. If they can't get an Open beta right then there is no hope for the launch! To think all the fan boys were slamming Conan lol this is ten times worse, this game is going to be a joke! Right now the only sane course is to cancel and wait six months for them to get there act together, it's insulting that we have to put up with this horrific situation!
I heard someone from GOA say this was going to be the smoothest MMO launch ever; this however does not look good for them.

Does anyone know how long the open beta continues for? Everything just says "starts 7th sep". Is it until the release date (18th)?

Head start is on the 14th Sep for CE pre-order boxes, 15th for SE pre-orders so expect open beta to end before then. With GOA though, it's anyone's guess.

I bought the pre-order box last Saturday because I wanted to play in the open beta on Sunday.

I still haven't been able to play.

I already had a Mythic account from a free DAOC trial I tried.  The website accepted my code with no trouble.  My problem has been downloading the client.  First I tried the method the website directed me to - Fileplanet.

I hate Fileplanet.  I think their business model sucks.  If you don't pay them a monthly subscription fee to be a "premium member" you can't download the "free" content.  I was put in a queue to download the client.  The queue told me I would not *start* downloading for over 10 hours.  I went to bed.  When I woke up, the queue had failed and the window had an error message saying the site could not be found.  ARGH!  So I started again.  Again I was put in a queue (at the back, of course) and told to wait another 10 hours before I could start the download.  20 hours of queueing and still no download.

I watched this one off and on all day.  At one point the queue said I had only 40 minutes left before I would start the download.  THEN IT FAILED AGAIN!!!

Finally I spoke with my friend who was already in the beta and asked him if he had any advice.  He gave me the address to a torrent download (from Mythic) so I tried that.  I got the download started right away with the torrent, but now after another full day I still only have 50% of the client.  This is insane.

The preorder box should have had a client DVD in it. :P  All it had was a slip of paper with a code on it, and a deck of cards I have no interest in.

I guess next time I need to remember to buy the preorder box with the "get in the beta" key at least a week before the preorder beta opens so I can get the client downloaded. :P

Yeah, took me forever too, to download from Fileplanet and then when I tried to install the game had an error in the download.   I just deleted it and moved on.  Maybe I will buy the game someday, certainly won't waste $50 on it at release.

I can't do that.  I've already wasted $5 on it and three days of downloading.  Oh yeah, IT'S STILL NOT FINISHED DOWNLOADING!!!

So I will give it a try hopefully tonight, assuming it has finished the download by then.  It was at 90% when I left for work this morning.  Grrrr!!

Well, I finally got my download finished and patched and made a character.

Can't say it was terribly compelling.  Pretty standard fare for a fantasy  MMO.  Wish some of my friends were willing to try it. :(
