EverQuest II News - The Many Languages of EQII

Posted by Keith Cross on Aug 05, 2008  | 9 comments in our forums

The folks at EverQuest II have posted an FAQ informing players of EQII's availability in French, German, and Japanese.

Did you know that EverQuest II supports the French, German and Japanese languages and has servers in each of those languages? In fact, all EQII players have access to these servers, as well as the EU English servers and the US servers. If you're not familiar with these servers or would like to know more, read on as we demystify the international EQII servers.

Is EverQuest II fully translated into French, German and Japanese?

Yes. Text and voiceover are translated into French, German and Japanese. Each version is playable in its respective language when connected to French, German and Japanese-language servers.

The French server is called Storms. The German servers are called Innovation and Valor. The Japanese server is called Sebilis.

Yes we know and we don't care.
Fix the game and make it enjoyable again instead of begging people with stupid memorandums.

That's not the reason people is not playing it.

What they're doing is trying to bring people to play it.

I find EQ2 interesting and it's a good place to practice French and German - I took notes on those servers.

So, that is one thing holding me to EQ2 - instead of me going to WoW, for example.

So I care; speak only for yourself.

I am german. I am playing the game since release and I still love it. Best pve game out there imho. Even though the localization has improved nearly each day, the same english voiceovers which greeted me in 2004, after logging in in Baubbelaue, do greet me still.

Great game, nearly each NPC of the old zones has good voice overs, but don't expect them all to be in your tongue. If you can live with some english here and there, go for it :)

I am speaking for the people who are not subscribing  anymore, and for good reasons.
The localization is not one of the reasons.
They should be spending their energy fixing the game instead of bringing new people which won't subscribe anyway after the trial.

You like it, fair enough.
There is always someone that like something.

Point is wheter you like it or not doesn't make any difference.
The subscriptions are going down, therefore there is not lot of people who think it your way, I am afraid.
If SoE want to improve their subscriber base they should make EQ2 challenging and rewarding again, and make it an alternative to WoW, not a clone of it.

Otherwise they will end up with  you and the other 4 who are playing the game at the moment.

if you don't care, why do you answer?

Apparently you still like EQ2 for some reason, and are annoyed that it didn't develop in the direction YOU would have liked. If you dislike EQ2 so much, just go to the forum of the MMORPG you *DO* like and try to attract more players there.

As far as I understand, you don't play EQ2 anymore. Good for you, but therefore your opinion is based on an old version of the game, not the latest patches. Perhaps it did change, perhaps it didn't ... but seriously, your opinion is worthless on that matter.

I, for one, didn't know about the frenc/german/japanese servers, and I find the information interesting.

Says SoE employee number 233........
Tell you bosses to stop sending staff to post on the forum to create a positive buzz.
The EQ2 Section of those forums are plenty of people wilh less than 10 posts defending the game, It's call viral marketing, we are aware of it.

Anyway I tried the free comeback month this July, so I had the chance to see with my eyes not only the state of the game, but the lack of population. And for your info, I have 2 level 70 and 1 level 60, so I know 1 thing or 2 about EQ2.

If the game was so awesome as you say, the servers won't be so deserted.
Majority of people don't like the game as it is, otherwise they will subscribe in masses, fact.
Your positive opinion won't change that.
SoE fixing the game might just do the trick (although I won't lose any sleep on it).

You really should play it though. I heard playing a troll is nice, and you definitely have the knack for it. "paranotroll" sounds like a good name for you.

I know you aren' t supposed to feed them, but here goes anyway :

1) I'm not an employee of SOE, not have I ever been. I don't even know anybody from SOE personally (I might know some remotely through the game, but it's not something I'm aware of). The "he works for the company I'm dissing" non-argument makes you just look stupid, no matter how informative your posts may be (thankfully they aren't very informative to start with, so not much to lose)

2) I never said the game is "awesome". I didn't even imply it anywhere. I like it, but I see lots of problems with it. From all the MMORPGs I tried, though, it's still the better one (with the exception of WISH, but that's been sadly dead and buried for a few years now). You might want to grab some "learning to read in 10 lessons" book somewhere before writing replies.

3) the population of a given MMO game (RPG or whatever) has seldom much relation to the quality of game. It's mostly a result of bad marketing, buggy or unbalanced launches. "Horizon", for example, was a *GREAT* crafting-oriented MMORPG but it was quite buggy, suffered from awefull lag, and somehow the marketing was kind of screwed up. It never had a really strong population. If I remember correctly, it's still online under a new name, and its population is probably even lower than EQ2's. My guess is that it's still one of the best crafting MMORPG out there though.

4) following 3), most people are hearing aweful things about EQ2, IF they heard about it. Many don't even know there are MMORPGs outside WOW and now AoC (maybe, but just maybe , they heard about EVE .. but that's more or less it). When was the last time you heard a news report about an SoE game in the generic medias?

and finally 5) concerning bragging rights and the size of your peni... personaes : played a few chars up to 60 in EQ1, I've played around 7 different MMORPGs since the late 90s (played as in "more than a months leveling a single character to at least 3/4 of cap level", not as in "played on a buddy's account and tried out every class and race combo up to level 5"), and much more on a trial basis .. so : mine is bigger.

sidenote : saying you're speaking for the silent majority is just fachism (and before you start flaming about WW2 or whatever, check what the word means). you don't know what the majority thinks, nor do I. I solely speak for myself, it makes it easier to know what I'm talking about.

Go back to your cave, troll.

I've played EQ2 on and off since launch. The game is a different taste than most MMOs. Personally, I really don't understand what you are whining about when you say they need to fix the game. For the most part, there are no bugs or major issues with running the game. The PVE is among the best hands down. Do I still play? No. Am I a fan boy? No. I just know how to admit the truth even with something I do not devote myself to anymore. Who said the subs were going down? Who says they are going up? Who cares? As long as a game has veterans that run the show is what most players care about. Do I want a game with subs that belong to newbies who won't contribute to the future of the game? Does anyone want that? Subs are misleading to begin with if that is all you are using to compare what game is the " best"

Show me another game with 200+ hours of voice overs in those languages, please! That is a tremendous achievement in itself that most people didn't even know.

Quit trolling the boards with your mindless statements. Maybe if you made a logical post that back'd up your claims you would make sense. Fixing your grammar would help, too.

I don't see anything wrong with trying to attract new players to the game.  It doesn't address the issues in game, but at least it gives people the opportunity to try it out who may not have known that EQ2 is localized for them.

Whether this actually should be news on this site is another question entirely.
