In this video interview preview, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood discusses some of the information given at a recent Leipzig presentation on Age of Conan. The article includes information on content,DX 10 and a just-announced upcoming expansion.
Here in Leipzig, MMORPG.com has captured some great video interviews and presentations that will be hitting the site over the next week. That's not going to stop us, however, from bringing you the important information right up front, at least until you can hear it from the horse's mouth.
Today, MMORPG.com attended a presentation by the team from Funcom's Age of Conan. A number of interesting points were made that are worth sharing with everyone as soon as we could:

Im not a fanboi or anything but I almost feel sorry for them. Its like watching a retard get the sh*t kicked outta him. Good Luck FunCom
Just a few things that make me go
"players wanted more variation and more challenge in the game's dungeons"
Is this something Funcom didn't realize people wanted? Did they have to be told this before they went "oh? Players like to be challenged in a game and have some variety?"
"World of Warcraft was an inspiration for the new boss encounter design as they seem to have engaging battles that require players to create a strategy to defeat"
Another head-scratcher. Last I checked, players find tank-and-spank bosses pretty boring. This is pretty well known...
I can't believe they didn't do their research and figure out just what it is that WOW has which has attracted so many players. How could they not have known from day one of planning that customers like challenging instances/raids? I am flabbergasted.
Posted elsewhere by me, but applies here too:
I already watched the FunCom video. If it wasn't so comical it would be totally sad.
These guys continue to sing the same song and they dance the same dance, actually oblivious to the clear fact and/or refuse to understand that no one wants to hear or see it anymore.
FunCom needs to stop the continued alienation of MMO gamers by losing the hype once and for all. FunCom needs -- must -- provide a lot less talk and a lot more action on actually delivering on at least *some* of their promises for this game we're still waiting to see.
Being still in closed beta and at least 3 months away from release quality, now more than three months after the game's May 2008 release is totally inexcusable.
I also see by some posts I read regarding this video that a lot of players are also starting to realize that FunCom really doesn't have a grasp on an actual, fleshed-out "vision" for this game -- this video confirms this (hence the lack of specifics from FunCom) -- Age of Conan is still a bunch of brilliant, even amazing parts thrown in a bag labeled Age of Conan.
The clock ticks. By Christmas, will the MMO hobby see that FunCom has actually delivered on their promises? Or will the AoC game servers be empty with the Age of Conan game boxes relegated to the bargain bin at GameStop? The clock ticks!
also, the unbeatable snake will kick your butt if you're not careful
OH NOES...even the snakes can one shot you now!
Poor Failcom...
I tried to like this game..but it was like trying to like a sword stuck in your back...
Funcom now gets to feel the wrath of WAR and WoW's new expansion.. Have fun with that Erling..your snake won't save you
Bah, too little and much too late. They still wont address the major bugs in the game like the frequent d/c's and latency issues. Nothing like red lining in the middle of a fight and coming back and your dead. Too much concentration on razzle and dazzle and not enough actually fixing the mess. Instead looks like they are just adding to it. History repeats itself as Anarchy Online is also quite buggy and free.
Expansion.........really?
Age of Conan: Gameplay
Ret: $29.99
Pre-order now and we can prolly even keep the servers open long enough to release it.
This game is crumbling the more they open their mouth. I mean wth, an expansion? I know game's usually like to announce expansions well before hand. But usually they fix there dam game before they do so. Setting a team aside to work on an expansion when you have super KNOWN exploits in a game sounds plain stupid. How bout you set a team aside to fuckin help you fix the game first. People will clown me and say shits working as intended, but it was never intended to be able to dupe this easily in a game. ANd the fact that it's not hotfixed or removed until further notice only means they don't care.
Here's still a list of major issues with the game:
1.Gem duping/exploiting
2.Red bar's
3.Retarded stat system using decimal's
4.The unknown amount of crashes that plague this game along with texture anomolies
5.Population
Now 3 is pretty much my opinion, but the rest are pretty clear facts. It only takes a fourth grader to search the tech forums to see the super amount of problems. And please don't give me the "minority" only read the forums crap. This game is falling fast, and I'm literally shocked that they would even talk about such nonsense at GC and get away with it. If you go back to the very first interviews after lanch, these same dam things were being talked about. It's been 3 months and yet you guys are still talking about it. This zone will not come anytime soon, and definatly not before the pvp patch which is still another month away.
That means at the earliest, and by Funcom time, 5 months at minimum. That's after they cry to people because not enough are on the TestLive servers. That is the saddest shit I ever saw, when they basically blamed the community for not testing their product. I got one for ya, hire some Q&A that knows what they are doing. This game is not fun. Fun was removed once this game launched. If you value money, move on. If your waiting on hopes and promises, this is the game for you. The only thing wrong, is thier delivery. Oh and let's not mention the non-existent phone number for Customer Support. Since when did we become archaic? Even people in Zimbabwe have cellphones! :(
An expansion? Perhaps they fix what they have, and deliver the promised features before moving on.
They have lost too many paying customers. They need to sell an expansion to help keep their developers employed. How else can they justify dangling the planned fixes like a nice juicy carrot that might tempt us to return?
Good MMORPG. Good Launch. Could be Great. I'm looking forward to the next steps to decide if I'll re-subscribe.
If what they have done so far to "fix" performance is considered the Full Force of there development team(s), then the game is much worse off than I ever considered it to be.
Considering the outcry for transfers, etc.. this comes as no real surprise.
Are you describing AoC? because that sure isn't the game I've played since beta.
Poor launch, stability issues and crashes are abundant to this day, latency spiking through the roof, billing errors and funds being taken after cancellation has already gone through, etc..
I certainly don't agree with it being a good mmorpg, nor stable in the least, and my system is freshly built (not a walmart special).

i have the same view as lazerwolf. I tried it the first month and didnt find as many problems with it as others, and my computer ran it very smoothly. I have a feeling this will be a MMORPG Gem just like AO is later on in its life.

Then I suggest you return your new system (or maybe learn how to build one properly?). Because my system is 1 year old (c2d 6400 2.13ghz, geforce 8800gt, 4gb ram) and I have no stability issues, no crashes, no latency spikes and no billing errors.
AoC runs very well on my system, even MUCH better than the 4 years old EQ2 at max settings. EQ2 is 4 years old and still runs like a dog with all of the settings maxed (but its of course playable). AoC's game engine is much better, it delivers better graphics with better framerates. Compared to EQ2 (at max settings) which was tweaked and improved during 4 years, AoC feels smooth and fast.
And I'm no AoC fanboi either. I'm not playing anymore since end of June (haven't subscribed after my 30 days) as I'm waiting for the promised features (dx10, new pvp system and high level content) to resubscribe.
Conan is like AO ... NOW.. because Conan use a upgrade version of the AO engine.
That seems a bad thing, because the way has been upgrade mean code that Funcom can't control, is too complex and buggy. And as anything old, Conan suffers from some problems that new stuff don't have.
Is a risk you have to take. Most people (like Valve) just upgrade a old engine. But seems here the result is very good to make screenshots, but really expensive to debug.
What you are seeing is a game dying. Conan engine is like 10 years old.
Actually it's one of the best mmorpg engines out there. (.... well, yes, the zoning is still an open question...)
Compared to many other games, it runs smoother and faster with much more features on the screen. I have already spoken about EQ2 above, now look at Vanguard. Vanguard doesn't even have proper shadows (yes objects have no shadow in VG), water reflections, fog, rain drops on the ground etc.. etc...
With AoC there is only 1 game that has a comparable quality engine: Lotro (and only the dx10 version, not the dx9). That's it. It just amazes me how much AoC draws on the screen with such a speed and smoothness.
So if Aoc is 10 years old, 99% of the other mmorpgs are 20 years old or more?
And it already has dx10 inside (even if it's not fully working yet). How many games have this?
AoC is a complicated engine because it tries to do much more with dx9 than the other games do. They have built some awesome shadows on top of dx9, no other mmorpg has this (even lotro doesn't have object shadows reflecting on other objects in dx9, they use the dx10 hadware to do this).
Yes AoC does much more with its engine than the other mmorpgs do. So you complain that it's more complicated to debug? How suprising.
WTH an expansion already... That is fail.
It's even more silly than that.
FunCom QA basically threw the baby out with the bath water when they shut down closed beta about 5-6 weeks after release.
FunCom, in essence, thanked the closed beta testers for their hard work and said, in essence, closed beta was over. Testing would continue with TestLive - a test server in the live game. Beta testers were all encouraged to buy the game (retail box for $50) and establish a FunCom Age of Conan game account ($15) and yes, we'd now have to *PAY* FunCom to continue to test their beta product.
Most of us walked, telling FunCom politely (some said it not so politely) where the cat pooped in the buckwheat and where they could put their TestLive server. Any surprise it's not quite "working as intended?"
Not to worry said FunCom QA, "we're hiring a bunch more QA employees - want a job? Of course you'd have to work in Norway...." Now wait a minute? FunCom won't continue the much needed Closed Beta where they were getting their closed beta product tested for FREE, but they are hiring (and paying) lots more employees to test their game when lack of money forced FunCiom to release Age of Conan 'way too early in the first place? Whoa...
It's this pretzel logic that has permeated @ FunCom. If they don't get it right and get it fixed and soon, it's (quite literally) game over.
Yeah, well, whatever they do, people won't be satisfied.
If they wouldn't talk about an expansion others would say the game has no future.
Anyway, for now I just want the promised features (dx10, new pvp system, high level content).
Too bad most of us don't care any longer Funcom.
I never understood why people could hate a company so much, when I read all the anti-SoE threads and posts.
After playing Age of Conan, I can completely understand.
Boycott failcom!
I really got a laugh out of this statement: "deficiency in the game's higher level content". Now that is the understatement of the year.
Just to enlighten the Funcom folks, Turbine put the bolder rolling down the dungeon stairs trick in AC1 about 5 years ago.
As always too little too late.
By the way, ya know those traps that they're mentioning? Yeah, they're not new. My wife and I left AoC over 3 weeks ago, and we had been in those dungeons/experienced those traps over a month ago. I love how they try to impress the non-players with news that players (that lvl beyond 50) know/have experienced. AoC was my wife's and I largest disappointment this year. AoC started out pretty fun, but it didn't take long for the sheen of the combat to lose it's luster in the smoke/dust of bugs, crashes, memory leaks, lack of content. We headed back to WoW because Blizzard seems to be about the only MMO out there that brings the best of all MMO's to players. I for one want to *play* a game, not *work* my butt off to the point where it feels like...well...*work*. I work 5-6 days a week. I don't want to spend my *off-time* doing 2-hour corpse runs or having my hard-earned experience *stolen* from me by the imminent death of my toon. :P Enjoy whatever game you choose to play, I say. Mine just happens to be World of Warcraft...with my wife :P.
Funcom killed my wife and raped my dog and fed my babies to a devil. In truth all I did was lost 50$ and little of my time but I'll still hold grudge forever and dedicate my e-life to hating Funcom.
lol I have never seen so delusional dev company as Funcom....only semi polished content in AOC is noobie island of Tortage rest is epic unplayable crap
I always thought this game selling point is the huge pvp, which is what got me into it.... why add more RAID-or-die instances???
HAHAHAHAHA
i have only 1 question why the hell all the ppl who post bad things and dissapoiments about AOC are ex wow players , for god sake you don't like it anymore u don't wanna play anymore DON'T play it, i am really starting to belive that u are getting payed for this trash talk , again nobody come and sayed U HAVE TO BUY AOC , u bought it by your own will and like all games were u preorder u were awere by the risk
PS: i like the game i like the way it works on my computer and i like the way the funcom is trying to rezolve the in game problem
ps: the traps u are talking about they are not yet in game they are some though that look's like it ( on the first epic boss u have to fight for your global quest u can't kill the blood thing if u do not kill the mini boss near the altar )
{ Mod Edit }
I just want to say that I played WoW for about a week, so lets get this out of the way.
When I bought AoC I bought it for the expansive PvP combat: Seige Battles, Epic PvP. When there actually wasn't any of this I was sad
, but they kept telling me that it would come in the next update... well not actually this next update... ohh wait lets try a Seige Battle...and there was too many people so the game crashed... well not in this update either... well I quit.
I got tierd, so I quit, easy as pie. Am I sad, yes. But now I am not angry everytime they promise to bring specific, documented, game-making, content, and don't deliver.
As to AoC, it is already an after thought, just another blip in a long line of mediocre games. Seems that the industry is swooning a bit. Let's hope that this is only temporary and some good games will come our way.
{ Mod Edit }
AoC is still bugged and still incomplete and they are planning an expansion.... Get you heads out of your asses Funcom fix the bugs finnish adding/opening up the content on the game then think about expansions.......
*EPIC FAIL*
What does beeing an ex-WoW player have to do with not liking a game? I'm an ex-DaoC player also, same with an ex-EQ'r. What's that get me? You can like whatever you want to like, but don't be blind to the real facts. This game had great potential, but Funcom is slowly drawing the fun out of the game. You tell me how much fun it is to run around adding up decimals. Oh wait, armor doesn't mean anything right? You know gemmed gear ...... I was, and still am a fanboy of this game, which is nothing bad. Because being the fan of something shouldn't be considered a bad thing. But the company needs to quit feeding this crap to promote a game that has alot of issues. Maybe not with you, but with alot of other people.
All I want Funcom to do is anty up. Take responsibility for the problems they cause. Let people know they bit the big one. Quit trying to make themselves look good when every fact goes against that. Talk about the REAL issues with the game. Instead of some dam community letter feeding us cake. For christ sake, look at all the new concept art and whatnot. Why is that same effort not being put into the huge lack of armor diversity in-game. Yes they are the same dam freaking departments and same group/team. You remember how many armor sets they said they have in-game. Well they are all there. But they look EXACTLY THE SAME. As stated, I feel bad for Famine. Funcom failed with AO and Age of Conan was there chance at redemption. So yeah, still waiting ..........
I want to end with this. Funcom talks about being such a great company. Want to know a step in the right direction? Get a Customer Support phone number. You live in 2008, this should have been in place. This would be a step in the right direction for all those people who cancelled and got re-billed. You can't sit here and justify emails as working as intended. I mean seriously, how stupid do you think customers are. It doesn't take a full team to read emails yet it takes you guys weeks to answer them with a generic messege. Amazing, huh? :(
Wow...guess the wife and I bailed at the right time...
Still looking for a game that can combine the tactics and graphics of Eve, the player crafting of DAoC and/or WoW, the global/continental FPS territorial conquest of Planetside... maybe I should start writing it myself... should only take about 10 years
If the entire game was as polished as Tortage, we'd have a game worthy of praise.
We have a company that doesn't understand it's audience, and practically refuses to add content to keep people interested.
I, like others cancelled my CE account shortly after that first month. AoC may have topped retail sales (as in sales to stores, not copies sold), but they have failed in providing the game we were told they'd be making. Came back lately... same damn problems, same lack of consistency (barely any VO's versus Tortage's 90% VO quests).
So seriously Funcom... who were you talking to at Leipzig? It certainly wasn't your fanbase.
AoC was fun for the first 20ish lvls then I think the lore started to get thin and the zones a bit light on content, the biggest issue I had was the fact it became a solo game after leaving the island - what is it with mmo's that dont want to encourage any form of grouping? - I mean even WoW has its dungeons instanced for fun - but the option to turn most places into soloable ones kinda killed the social aspect of the game.
I'm dissapointed at AoC's game focus but It was only a few $$ and although Im not playing currently -
(solo games dont interest me) Ill keep an eye out and see how the game progressess
really those that are gnashing and wailing about the evils of funcom are being silly, its just a game company, would you expect your PR people to come out and say - this game sucks, dont buy it??
They just don't know what to say anymore.
- The level50+ content issue. He is repeating his PR promise crap about this new zone over and over. Failcom promissed this zone back in May that it would be added in July! Who are they trying to fool still?
- DirectX10. Now they admit the boxes were already printed when puling out the feature! While they kept their mouth shut before and after Early Access release till 2 days before official release!! They kept their mouth shut until they were sure they had sold enough boxes!! Bastards! Who are they trying to fool still?
- They now admit the Dungeons are crap, way too easy and need some challenge and improvement. Well hello. We were saying that since early access back in may!! Who are they trying to fool still?
What about the new PVP system? How long are they going to delay it? It's delayed for almost 3 months already! lol.
What about the Siege PVP that's still broken? lol.
Working on an expansion? Yeah right. Don't think people will be eager to pay for an expansion any time soon! They rather have the game fixed and all the content and features first that were promissed!
Maybe somewhere in the year 2010 they can start thinking about an expansion! lol.
We gave it a real chance, they just did not give us the real game.
To little to late.
And so it begins ... I knew it would happen. They have finally dumbed down a game to the point where the players are now saying ... "make it more challenging". I knew that they would keep dumbing down games till it got to this point.
no expansion for me..
im paying too much already , 15 € for a unbalanced and unfinished game..
I have only pain playing this game.
FAILCOM !!!
Why would a company announce an expansion to their MMORPG that they've been working on a couple months after releasing the game itself? Especially when:
A) There's already numerous flaws and bugs in their game that still need attention, and
B) A lot of that stuff were meant to be in the game at release.
I just can't stand the crap these idiots at Funcom keep spitting out. Stop making games and just go away already.
I didn't play AoC but from reading the posts on here it doesn't seem like I'm the only one scratching my heading going, "You're really already talking about an expansion." What they're trying to say is, "Hey guys we just realized that if we wait eighteen months to release an expansion there's going to be nobody left to buy it. So we took all this content that was going to be in the basic game at launch, repackage it as Expansion: trails of a poorly managed company and we'll sell it back to you at 29.95." Way to go!
On a side note you guys really gotta stop being so hungry for wow's downfall. I read it on here every day: "OMG this game is going to be sooo much better than wow. OMG your dumb because your playing a game that has a simple easy to understand interface behold my nerd rage!" The only thing this accomplishes is pepole buying poor wow knock off because YOU, meaning the people of these boards, tend to take their hype at face value. Do yourselves a favor you really want to know what a game is like test it. SIgn up for betas. Then try to be objective. Meaning several times during the course of the game honestly ask yourself, "Am I having fun" if the answer is yes then post your great big nerd rant on the boreds about how big a joygasum you just had playing age of warhamercraftgate: revenge of the litch ring. If not then keep your mouth shut or else the Fans' will getcha.
If for some god forsaken reason you are dumb enough to post an honest and objective review on these boreds whatever you do just let it stand. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES argue with the fan boys on here. You cannot win. It doesn't matter that they've only seen screenshots. It doesn't matter that you've been testing Eve of the Planetside Fanatsy XI for 12 months they don't care. What they care about is that somewhere outthere there's a game thats better than their mom telling them they need to take out the trash because we all know mom rep is easy to get.
MV out
I just canceled my account and will be frozen in 2 days. I'm preparing for WAR. I hope, just hope AoC brings something new. After hitting lvl 80, the fun factor was going down hill, but I have my fingers crossed.
Then I suggest you return your new system (or maybe learn how to build one properly?). Because my system is 1 year old (c2d 6400 2.13ghz, geforce 8800gt, 4gb ram) and I have no stability issues, no crashes, no latency spikes and no billing errors.

Yer, you need a fast processor for EQ2. Duel / Quad doesnt matter, 3.0 or higher should get you running maxxed out with no problems. I get 70fps in all zones, sometimes up to 130fps, maxxed out all settings. Looks 100% better than AOC, and as you say, its 4 years old. Shocking really.
Lots of good stuff coming 2009-2010. KOTOR, STO, Earthrise, StarGate Worlds among others.
I tried WoW. My son was a GM for Blizzard and I played from Alpha to release.
I really *tried* to like the game. WoW is wonderful pablum for the masses. It's fun and easy to play for everyone, even people new to MMOs and/or casual players.
Personally, I couldn't get past the feeling my character and the graphics looked straight out of the comic strips in the Sunday Funnies. It's very hard to like a game if you hate how it looks. Another thing I didn't like is the grind for the best equipment.
WoW is fine for the casual social butterflies who are happy with it and who don't want to invest time and energy in another MMO. They're happy playing with their spouse and friends in a simple, very familiar environment. Nothing wrong with that.
But for many, in spite of expansions and tweaks, WoW is .. well, WoW. Many avid MMO hobbyists have moved beyond it. Friends who had stayed with WoW, over the last year or so, have since quit as well because WoW answer for end game is a huge time sink at the higher levels doing raids.
yeah, to bad all those new exciting additions to the game that are supposed to make things funner like those amazing traps they talked about were already in the fu@#ing game!!!!!!!!!!!!
my issue is why are they even trying to make a new expansions and have yet to address and fix the issues that are currently plaguing the game. I got a conqueror to lvl 80 and a necro to lvl 40 i pretty much drew the line in the sand when my pets were all completely useless and werent fixed for over 2 weeks. in fact I canceled before they even fixed them which headed into the 3 weeks range. the combat system is great, the pvp although annoying by aimless gankers is pretty fun at times.
but the issues are too much to overlook, the gem duping, the exploits, the combat issues. too numerous to name. my system ran the game pretty good so i didnt have any real issues performance wise with OOM's only an occasional shadow bug and graphical anamolies due to driver incompatabilities. i think this game needs alot of work. i am realizing why they took direct x 10 out. probably because it performed like crap. but i dont like the idea that I bought a direct X 10 game at launch, with no Direct X 10. basically i never got the full product that i paid $100 for. ( bought the collectors edition). i think its fair to say I will never buy another collecter's edition again lesson learned.
to all those wanting to play Warhammer lets jus say its being over hyped. but i found the game to be pretty stable and polished.
I'm enjoying AoC still but only because I rerolled and am hoping the extra content will be in before I reach lvl 55 again. I don't mind the out of memory errors every few hours, the lag spikes every few hours and the population is fine on my server (Aquilonia). I've got more than my money's worth of entertainment but wish they'd add some level 80 content that doesn't require 24 people.
I do find this talk of an expansion a bit strange but maybe Funcom are trying to copy that from Guildwars too. They are quite open about borrowing ideas. I'll tell you exactly why the PVP patch and new content isn't available yet - it's the bait to steal people back from WAR...
well that is a horrible plan. make a game but forget to put in the things people bought it for and why???..... to wait till another new game releases THEN! put out the things they should of already had to get them to come back! HAHA! WORST PLAN EVER
who's taking odds that this expansion is going be just about all of the stuff that should have been there at launch?
The missing content from 50+, the pvp stuff etc, new zones / dungeons...
I know! rather than include that stuff in a timely fashion for your rapidly diminishing playerbase...
Lets label it an expansion and get the morons to pay for the game again! - failcom logic.
I digress... i quit after my months sub ran out. With a lvl 63 barbarian and some alts (the female ones got put on ice after the 'female characters do less damage' bullshit). I gave it a chance and was let down.
Here's hoping Mr Ragnar Tornquist's 'Secret World' mmo doesn't share AoC's shortcomings.
What was a 'must buy' for me after 'Dreamfall' etc... is now a nervously optimistic wishlist item.
I just don't get all the hate against Funcom - if you lack the skill to play it, don't!
Great game even though the game is not what was "promised", but should be the promised land within a year or so.
Haters should go and hug WAR instead and enjoy the "content". ;)
what the fu#$?! hahah lack the skill? what skill to playing AoC? Who ever can get off the best combos first skill? or the now who ever has the best gemmed gear skill?
Expansions only ruin level based fames.
I don't usually post on the forums, I just like to read them. That having been said; I kind of like AOC.
It runs really well on my computer (3.0e8400, 4gigram, 260gtx). I don't have any performance issues w/ all settings to max on a 1920x1200 monitor. I don't know what kind of rigs people w/ performance issues are playing on, but perhaps a new game requires new components. I do get 1 or 2 lag spikes on a 6-8 hour session, but thats livable. I do crash once or twice w/in the same period of time. Compared to most MMO's I've played, that's acceptable (to me) , and I've played 'em all.
This is some major bashing of a decent game. Just opinions i know, but geesh.
GL Failcom, I mean Funcom!
Read the tech forums sometime, maybe. People with comps better than yours can barely run the game, if at all. The "you comp sucks" argument fails in relation to this game.
I beta tested it and really had high hopes for it after the performance patch. I recently started playing it again and expected to see even more improvements since the release. But,it turned out i expected way too much of them. The memory leaks(gray map) along with the lag is still present. They continue to nerf the classes "for the sake of pvp". What PvP? Constant ganking? I can overlook all the technical issues of a new game. I,however, cannot overlook the lack of community and team based driven content. Guilds are practically useless and player cities serve no real purpose besides being a waste of space. No player housing at all. Did i mention that cities are instanced? Where the fuck is the fun in that? All in all, this is just another disappointing MMO title.
The re-roll plan to fun in AoC has a limited lifespan. Trust me, I did this, too. I played my DT up to L55 and decided to shelf him when the only quest available was White Hand Officers. I then rolled a PoM and lo and behold, she got to L55 with the only quest available being White Hand Officers. I then rolled Guardian, but I really couldn't stomach going through Connall's Valley or the Wild Lands yet again, doing the same stuff. Oh, and did I mention that all this was done back in May/June when they first promised the additional L50+ content?
Failcom is the same as Wimpy from the old Popeye cartoons. Remember his famous line? "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." In case you couldn't guess, Tuesday never seems to come around.
Most the posters in this thread probably don't even play the game because their computer's aren't up to date. So, they simply decided to hop onto the hater band wagon after sitting there all day just trying to install the damn thing. The game just launced, almost every launch is not nearly as glorious as ya'll apparently think it is or should be. I agree that the game lacks end game content, and that there are bugs, but give funcom some time to address the problem, and other problems that may arise. Keyword being there is TIME. From reading most threads I get this feeling that you people believe a game should be perfect at launch, with barely any bugs and 25 man raids. All this flaming on AOC is unnecessary considering how young the game is. Oh wow, you say population is subsizing? AOC's current population is 3x that of WoW at launch, even with all the negativity AOC has to deal with it's kicking harder than Chuck Norris. I understand you guys have nothing else to do but cry and cry some more, and I also understand that it comes naturally, but STFU already, K THNX.
I'm curious to see how the community will react to WAR, because cearly MMO gamers are a tough crowd.
Personally, my computer is 3 years old, and it ran the game just fine. Also, I have no expectation that the game would be perfect right at launch, but I would expect it to improve with each patch. That is where most of the player base has a beef with Failcom. Patches after launch for the most part dealt with things that were mostly insignificant to the core game itself (emotes? c'mon) or they made changes that made the gameplay suck (Cistern/Master System bosses, anyone?). Then there's a whole laundry list of issues that were known during beta, which were not addressed. I'd hazard a guess that many remain unaddressed.
Yeah, time is all anyone ever needs to evenually home in on a target, but Failcom's running out of it as players bail on this title. When you consider that they've been working on this title since 2003, the "they just need more time" argument doesn't really seem to fly all that well. At least with Anarchy Online, they had the decency not to charge players for the first few months of post-launch beta testing.
The only way to get people to "STFU already" as you so eloquently put it is for Failcom to actually walk their talk and resolve the issues that people complain about.
i don't wish to flame unabashed, nor to i wish to be deluded and not acknowledge the fact that the game is largely a disappointment. it's confusing to pay for and play a game with the issues AoC has, week after week the corrections/bug fixes/adjustments all focus on relatively inconsequential issues compared to what a person would expect to be top priorities.
i was fortunate to join a very good guild at release which spared me the hell of lack of content to level, i was simply power leveled. and the time at 80 has been spent raiding and open world pvping. it was great while it lasted. but my guild, and server, are loosing ppl everyday. the only way to survive in AoC is with a strong posse.
i tried out WAR and was reminded how much the real time combat in AoC meant to me. i don't really like WAR compared to what AoC could be, but you need the 'massive' to make it an MMO and my massive is moving to WAR for the most part.
for the record: my mmo resume is very short, but having been introduced to the genre by wow, i found it very disappointing that Hyboria was only as big as whatever zone you were in. i don't know if it's too much to expect the full continent environment you existed in when you were in wow, but that really detracted from the experience for me.
i can only guess that if some computers, of same general performance level, are having tech problems and some aren't, that it is driver compatability that is causing the trouble? I'm really only a novice when it comes to such things. Why else would my computer run the game fine, and another SIMILAR computer not??
I played VG for almost a year, suffered through MAJOR technical/performance issues because I liked the game, issues that put Conan's problems to shame.....So I ask myself, do I like Conan as much as I did VG. Not really, but I'm having no trouble with Conan. Where does this leave me? I'm gonna go give WAR a try.
I hope its a joke, cause they have ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT of work to do already with the original game, this makes me discusted... OMG
I dont care if I get flamed for this but AoC has its issues like any other MMO but compared to the other dozen MMO's I have played the launch IMO was good enough and better than I expected and so far for 3 months the game has taken up all my gaming time and taken me away from EVE as well. The issues I have with the game are:
* Grouping - please introduce automatic grouping and summon. Its a simple fix and it would improve the game 100%. Its frustrating when you see people LFM's and you are too far away to join in even if you wanted to.
* Crafting items at your level or lower: Big issue with this as you can only craft items at your level or lower. I think it should be open for anyone at any level so a level 10 player can follow a crafter's life instead of
*Some CTD's but it comes and goes and mostly doesnt happen.
However there is a great deal more positives in this game for me and since my rig can run it at high spec and still get 40fps it looks amazing. I have 3x level 60 characters and still enjoy the leveling. On my server the population is more than enough, cant speak for others.
Fact is WAR will come out with the same bugs and issues and once again we will see it get flamed. The key factor is that any player who is enjoying the game isn't on these forums as they are too buys playing. I already feel sorry for WAR's launch.
Are these people takeing the piss, improved group content, what groups????
Most people have left already and it is nearly imposible to find a partner let alone a group, i'm currently on the Bloodrand server and was in one of the largest raiding guilds there but the guild is no more, people have left the game simple because Funcom don't fix whats broken.
This is a good game, Ooops, did I say is a good game, I meant to say was, you need people to play it first before you can even call it a game.
Don't get me wrong, I like this game, I have 3xlvl80's 2xlvl70's and the rest are between 30 to 50, and I don't realy care about DX10 or even a expansion, I simple want to be able to play with other people or even solo in a fairly bug free MMO, thats all I want.
After the last patch about 50% of the comments all contained the same line "Closeing my account" you would think that Funcom would take note.
I realy can't say how much more I can put up with myself before I leave the game as well but one thing is sure and that is if thay don't do anything major about the problems before War or WoTLK arrive I feel we can say goodbye to AoC.
I hear ya Bass and I left Vanguard because it was a ghost town just like PotBS and TR in the end. However so far the RP-PvP server I am on (aquillonia) is still pretty busy and I get a group or at least group up with a couple of player pretty easily. I think its more successful on the EU servers than anywhere else. Thing is I hear the same thing in my guild and other guilds and that is people are enjoying the game but there is a large majority waiting until WAR comes out and the rest are watching Funcom closely to see if they add / improve a lot of the game. Funcom needs to push out a lot of 'great' content and fixes quickly and get word of mouth going that the game is improving and quickly. I enjoy it a lot still but I know post 65 I am going to get frustrated with not being able to play the best dungeons because the players may not be there.
2nd - as a crafter at heart I hate working on my skills to find out there is no one there to buy my freakin goods!!! I was so mad with Vanguard because I maxed out crafting and made several server unique items only to see them rot on the market...very sad.
An average game is a great game with loads of people playing.
Well I personally have had no memory errors or crashes of any kind... so far. I did upgrade my PC in late April mostly for being able to play this game, also becuase my last major upgrade was Nov 2004.
It's amazing how everyone whines about what Funcom hasn't done but won't speak about what they have done.
More voiceovers have been added, since many complained that after Tortage there were no more.
Certain dungeons were revamped to make them more challenging. The "inspired by WoW" boss they mentioned is not a tank-n-spank. If you don't have 2 high dps players keeping the minions from sacrificing themselves he is unkillable. Course doing that you have 2 less dps on the boss himself. Loot tables were upgraded as well.
They made resource gathering a bit easier, especially in the resource zones.
Those are just a few examples. Is the game perfect? No of course not. WoW wasn't perfect at launch either and took Blizzard months to get things relatively stable (stuck while looting bug, server's crashing, queues, etc). So ok you're bubble been burst and AoC isn't the Gem of Perfection you all hoped it would be. There are enough people enjoying it now so it's not going to the bargain bin anytime soon.
Why does Funcom have to be such.. well you know, douches? I really wanted to like Age of Conan when it was first coming out. With every word out of their mouths another nail goes into their coffin. Some one really needs to buy them out.
Suprised Woody or Avery aren't here leading the crusade to defend the failure, unless I missed them when scrolling through. It could have been an amazing game. They screwed the pooch in my opinion, no expansion with just one area and a couple new dungeon techniques that pissed me off when they were implimented on WoW.
The paid for expansion will be when the DX10 gfx show their face.
For me, the PvP system is one of the main reasons I left. i am all for being able to PK anyone you choose, but, having max level players camping the entry level zones and PKing everyone is just pathetic.
A lack of a consequence system from the word go is a fault for this one.
Most of the problems the game is suffering from could/should have been resolved in Beta.
I have enjoyed my time in AoC. I have several characters at level ~60. Warhammer is where I am going. I am unlikely to go back to AoC. There are too many other MMOs out there that I have promised myself I will return to (WOW, EQII, Vanguard).
Did you ever see that drunken pirate walk from the pub/ship in Tortage and take a leak in the Sea? Gotta be a classic MMO moment
Orly? How can you throw even more resources to try and sell what has proven a completely failure. I doubt Funcom will ever manage to clear their name and that of Conan ever. Who is going to buy this expansion? What are they thinking?
