If you looked at the link, St. Jude has international outreach in many countries. The original hospital is US based but the outreach is worldwide.

Yup you missed something. This is totally sweet, when you say world class you say blizzard, when you say blizzard you say world class, they both mean the same thing.

I would love to know more about the technical backbone of WoW. I'd guess that each "realm" is composed of dozens of blades. If there are 10,000 players online at any given time, distributed throughout 50+ "zones," it would take dozens of cores and quite a large quantity of RAM to keep things running smoothly.

The sad thing is if Blizzard decided to add a bonus code that unlocked some sort of unique one-of-a-kind mount for the buyer, these server parts would be selling for MUCH MORE.

Why would even matter where the kids are that it was helping?

lol. So a multimillion dollar company auctioning off their garbage for charity makes them world class? They are no more noble then your average politician, kissing babies just so someone can take a picture of them doing it.

I think if you could plug your ethernet adapter into one of these and run a special version of WoW offline or with friends it would be cool.  As merely a decoration they are sort of interesting, but kind of a waste of cash.  I may yet bid on one just for charity sake.

More noble than someone sitting on butt saying how unnoble others for doing something.

OK. So I have an old computer that you can buy off me, then I'll donate all the money to the charity of your choice. Afterwards, everyone can thank me for being so generous.

Don't get me wrong, I think the auction is fine, but the real kudos goes to the people that buy the parts, not Blizzard. The company could donate 10 million without the blink of an eye, instead they donate old abandoned parts.

While I feel that what Blizzard is doing is commendable at some level, I also agree with this guy in the way that sure the outcome is a good thing but for Blizzard itself it's mostly good PR.  But again I don't want to totally Bash Blizzard, let me just say that I'd put any big name company with lots of money to burn in the same boat if they did the same thing.  In the end though the kids matter and if Blizz wants to get some free PR and have the means to do so, better this way than without doing anything good right?

Anyone who has anything negative to say about this is just a weak minded fool looking for attention.

Kids in need benefit, and collectors get a nice piece of gaming history. There is nothing bad happening here, no secret agendas.. just win win for everyone. Deal with it.

That sums it up in a nutshell.

As an active supporter of St. Judes, I am glad that there are fans of the game that will buy these items.

St. Judes will get funding and Blizzard will get 2 million dollars worth of publicity for stuff that should have been thrown out years ago.

Win/Win

Absolutely, I think it's great that there is money being put to a good cause and I will never sneer at that.  I just didn't think blizzard was "world class" because of it. It makes it sound like they cut off a leg so starving kids could use it for stew.
