No one seems to have yet learned the lessons that WoW put down.

Not talking about 'Game-Play'; talking about Quality and Polish.

And, yes, I was in WoW Beta and there at Launch.  WoW was then, and is now, High-Quality and Polished.

I do not believe any MMORPG is going to succeed without meeting those standard levels.

So, if TR releases in 30 days, TR will fall flat and fail to achieve the success that it might have had.

Word to the Wise.

Exactly why I was reserving judgment, even if it isn’t polished to a fine shine, that doesn’t mean it’s doomed to fail.

To the person that mentioned WOW; lets not forget that WOW had its share of bugs on release and although those bugs may have been few, I spent my fair share falling through the world or losing some item that I know I had when I logged out.

30 days may be just about right, depending on the current build, either way we will know in a month.

The game is very enjoyable. I look forward to the patch tonight to see what bugs have been fixed, and am even more excited to see what content we havent seen in beta when it goes live.

The game is far from the doom and gloom people say here, in fact i bet the same has been said for every mmo to date with regards to release dates. It isnt that buggy at all, especially for an open beta.

Thats probably all I can say without a forum mod spamming me with NDA infringement warnings.

I've never seen an MMO launch without its share of bugs, not everything can be cought in beta!  TR will launch with bugs, which will be worked out, leading to more bugs, etc.  Regardless of this, I'm still psyched!  I've been playing the beta and have been enjoying it a lot.  The only thing I'm really missing is a guild...

I've got a bad feeling, though, that when the game does launch it will be a little anti-climatic.  Its not going to be a WoW, which is both good and bad.  The bad is there wont be millions of players and that much love, the good is that there wont be millions of players, and that much player-based annoyance!  I just hope that those of us who do play it will form a really good player base, helpful and fun!

Has the NDA been lifted?  I am looking forward to hearing from the best testers, if so.  If it hasn't been lifted, didn't you just sorta violate it?  Or I guess since it's getting so close to release now, you probably don't care.  Thanks for the info though!

Wow, had plenty of bugs.  Everytime you mined in the barrens you ended up bent over and sliding around instead of running.  Monsters you could beat on over and over while they sat there letting you lev. up your weapon skill.  Strat and Scholo bugs.  Disconnects.  Constant random errors over and over.  There were times the game would just stop running for me then a week or so later it would run.  In fact for along time after every patch I would get constant disconnects.  It was like they were putting bugs INTO the game.  How about logging in and no one had clothes on?  How about logging in and you could see everyone except yourself ?  All you had was your shadow running around.  Alterac Valley= Bug fest, sometimes no npc defenders would show up, capping flags through towers, NPC's guards sitting there while the opposite faction stood next to them taking screenshots, Belinda missing.  So polished, it wasn't maybe it had a light buff, but far from problem free.  Any game is going to be buggy upon release and as WoW has show it will continue to have bugs for along time.

Yeah, no. I have 2gb and the game lags to hell.

The game is nowhere near ready for release. There are some HUGE bugs that should have been fixed before launch. I love Richard Garriott, and I was really cheering for this game, however, the fact still remains that this game needed about six more months of development time before achieving a release candidate status.

Maybe they do have something up their sleeve. However, I don't see why they would hide all of their 40+ content including all end game content without going through an extensive beta test. I hope for Richard Garriott's sake they do.

They should really hold the release if the game is not polished

Hello guys,

TR is one of the games I'm looking forward to play. I don't know much about how game servers work, but I had a question. Is the game lagging/running slow do to it being run on a small test server with less speed/lower end components, or is the game running on a "release date" server (I'm not sure if that makes sense or not).

In my opinion, anyone who says TR is another "vanguard launch" is a bit mistaken.  First of all, Vanguard had NOTHING to offer to the MMO society.  Standerd classes, standerd everything, nothing special.  As for you people who say its just laggy and crappy, try upgrading your crappy computer, first.  Tabula Rasa is with one of the freshest MMO genres, MMOFPS.  Unique for those who enjoy FPS, "crappy and laggy" for those who hate FPS.

ok first of all
let me just say that the repports of lag are mostly because of people playing in crowded instances of the starting zone. If you teleport to another instance of the zone, Latancy will drop drastically.
Otherwize bad preformance is as allways secured by using "old" equipment.
here is a few images (from a great looking game I might add) that shows preformance on my system with quite a few bells and whistles on

This game is NOT a new Vanguard!
the people that says so are simply not credible. Its plays very well on my system. I have not crashed ONCE! It has addictive and fast gameplay and YES...it does lack some content and fluff, but the core gameplay is fast, furious and FUN!.
The devs LISTEN to the testers and have added quite a few features that the betatesters asked for . NOT everything but as can be seen from Cupajos list -a lot of things have been passed on and while it might not be in the game for launch, I truely believe this one is a keeper that will grow and expand nicely after launch.
after todays patch the control-points were activated for real and waves of Bane came in to cap AFS bases -It was a blast to defend and recapture. I have not had as mush fun in an MMO for ages!
So
if you like sci-fi and are sick and tired of elves and orcs -If you like fast and furious teamplay with cool guns and equipment you will not be dissapointed when launch day comes along.

Yea, I agree with the last poster.  I have only 1 gig of ram and I can run it on normal with no lag what so ever.  My computer is not that uber either, 6800GT, 2.4ghz SINGLE core processor.

If you lag either turn your settings down a bit or go into another zone.

And to who ever said it was a single player game you obviously never have played it because I am always seeing people, they are everywhere, I went into a random cave and there were people all over the place.

This game should have a good release if they just tweak it a bit (like swimming animations dont work for me =/)

Otherwise this is a good game so far, I'm liking it, but not sure about buying it.  I guess we will just have to see.

And dont the servers go up in 30 minutes? =D

Well, I never had a serious performance problem, and I don't have a fast computer: it's a P4 3.0ghz with 2GB RAM and a 7600GT. As long as I don't max out, it's quite playable.

The bugs were not that much of a problem, either... Yeah, I'm playing Vanguard among other things, so I'm highly bug-tolerant. Besides, finding bugs is what you do in betas, right? As long as it doesn't get unplayable, I'm OK.

Still, I ended up playing it less and less even though I believe in really testing a game once you get a spot. The first couple of weeks was mindless fun, then it got less and less so. I think I'm among the few who had no "quality / performance" related problems with the game, but simply design-related ones. It got repetitive and utterly boring for me after a while; whatever I did just felt hollow.

This is not exactly a FPS game, and not a standard RPG at all, and sadly it did not feel to me like it fed off the good parts of the two genres. Maybe because FPS means all-out PVP to me, and RPG means rich, involved storylines and a lot of things to do other than kill mobs. This is an odd hybrid indeed. Pulled me in with its fast fun gameplay at first, but spat me out cold in a short time. I can imagine people liking it though. Well, we'll see :)

and then go out and buy the defective product at full retail anyway.

Anyone who buys products on day 1, based on ads and glowing reviews PAID for by the publishers deserves whatever they get.  Why not  wait 2 weeks and see if the release game is really stable.

Interesting to hear the release date announcement.   Also interesting to hear the conflicting 'Game not ready/Game will be ready' chatter on Forums and sites.

Frankly, I don't care how many patches they implement between now and launch.  History has shown us these kind of comments sprouting up before the launch of a game are never a good sign.

The kind of comments that *should* be sprouting up are "The game has been ready for a while, why don't they release it??"   We've seen that before if people would bother to tax their memories of the successful recent online MMORPGs.

But it is Richard Garriott so we have to give him the benefit of the doubt.    The question is whether he'll live up to his reputation.   Keep in mind, we've also seen other 'father-figures' of MMORPGs take recent nose-dives if people would bother to remember.

Oh wait, they ARE remembering.  We are ALL going to be watching TR this October.

What he meant is there is no reason to be in a group. The entire game is soloable. It is a singleplayer game with multiplayer capability, far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, I beta'd it for a month, before uninstalling. Garriott did indeed drop the ball on this one. Big time.

And there's no way in hell I'd ever pay 14.99 a month ( the price for the monthly subscription ) for it. A Guild Wars type payment would have been acceptable (only buying the game itself), but paying box AND sub fees for this is ridiculous.

Sure it's not THE game, but at least its relatively more polished than half-assed rushed MMO's.

Idk how the other games are doing (SWG, EQ2, etc) but I'd say the only games worth playing are WoW and EvE.

So sad to see this rushed (assumed it is).
Bu theres still a small amount of hope...remember WoW beta ?It had crapload of bugs and server problems, then they released it and after the initial chaos it was the greatest time of 9583957823758 people playing. =P

Bugs aren't the problem.   It's the game itself.  The core gameplay is just not fun.  All the content is same bland quest design.  A few extra months of tweaking would not fix Tabula Rasa.

It needs a massive overhaul.  Redesign the classes, redesign the skills, redo most of the quests, integrate a solid PvP system, add a lot more mob types and models, revamp the entire core gamplay and control scheme, and so on.

This is not a case an otherwise good being pushed too so early.
