Wow, that was quick. How long has this MMO been around? A year?
Expect online petitions and having people in a year say "Remember Auto Assault? What a great game, they shouldn't have shut it down."
Wow big news. I knew AA had low numbers and that hasn't changed since launch, but I expected the game to hang on for a couple more years. Well, I guess we can add AA to the likes of Earth and Beyond. Farewell.
Woah, didn't see that coming :/ i really wanted to like AA, but it just didn't feel right when i played it. It's always sad to see a mmo go down imo.
an example (like swg) that you can't make huge changes and force your customers to relearn the game every two months instead of adding content. we warned them again and again.....
It launch back in April 2006, i knew it was coming but not that fast. I played the game when it lauched but got bored real, real quick with it. Biggest complaint was the fact that we could'nt get out of the car. Try to do some social or roleplay as a car...
Good Riddance. That game was aweful from the get go. Very poorly made imo.
??? I played a little bit in beta and you could walk around as your avatar in the cities.
I'd say 90% of the online gaming world seen this coming.
And yes, I pulled that figure out of my ass, but I'm betting it's fairly accurate.
This game can hardly call itself mmorpg well hope they can learn their lesson
Auto Assault deserves to be canceled. It played more like the arcade game "Spy Hunter" than as an MMO.
Its ending demonstrates that poorly conceived MMO game concepts can die quick deaths and won't necessarily languish in the gaming backwaters for years with low populations.
Its cancellation may even contribute to a redefinition of failure in the MMO market along with Dark and Light.
That was so random. Though there may not be many, I'm sure the players are going to be very p'd off! Imagine having your MMO suddenly cancel
Earth and Beyond, Asheron's Call 2. And both better games.
What I want to know is why close it? Reduce the sub price, offer for free with ads, or at least offer the server code to the fan base so they can make their own server. Just letting a game die like that is wrong.
I personally like this MMO, only reason why I did not play was because my computer could not handle it.
i was in beta and knew it didn't have a chance oh well............... r.i.p.
I miss E&B sometimes and the music in AC2 so I'm sure I'll miss something about AA, just as soon as I figure out what that is.
I agree. Great point
ROFL i knew this game would die (was in the beta) though i have to admit i expected them to last a little bit longer then this....hahaha
Wow i knew the game was gonna get shut down. This game was pretty different and doesn't deserve to get shut down IMHO. But then again i'm not NCSoft.
R.I.P. Auto Assault
Sheesh, you lot are a bunch of jerks. Real knee-biters. Not an MMO? What's the definition of an MMO then, if this game doesn't meet the spec? Elves? Spells? Everything any other MMO you can think of had (save FPS combat, you effite game snobs), AA had. It was raw as hell and obviously pushed out the door far, far too early, but not an MMO? Give it a rest already. At least come back and post a flame that has a basis in fact.
Like the folks who say it was boring way too quickly (it was, not enough to do), or the other folks who say it wasn't their thing (it was not your plain Jane mmo, that's for sure), or the folks who complained about not being able to get out of your car in the wild. These are valid complaints and likely all a big part of why it didn't attract users. Claiming it's not an MMO is just f'n ignorant, and isn't doing your image any favor.
The game's already dead, it's not going to hurt your precious WoW; you can stop knocking it with baseless complaints. Really. Get over yourselves.
mature much....
There were people playing and enjoying this game, granted not alot but they were paying for it Now, after august 31, they will never be able to play it again. Considering the great community of players on AA it's a shame that NC would do this to them.
I've had the box for awhile now, never got around to installing it.
Installing it now and going to play while I can heh.
This sucks, another original MMO bites the dust. Ultimately not enough to keep players interested but I'll concentrate on the good times instead...
It was a blast for the 12 months I played it. Driving round destroying everything, farming mats for crafting has never been so fun. Splattering pedestrians off your bumper and doing insane jumps. The endgame PVP was fast-paced and the tide could turn at any moment. Racing round flipping outposts, then screaming back to them when someone else tried to hack. Farming bosses for better weapons to kill the other player races faster or grinding the epics (didn't get so far in that one hehe). Top it all off with a close community and this is a real shame.
This is a testament to the fact the fantasy genre will always rule the MMORPG scene.
I played in beta and it was completely transparent that this game would fail if released.
NCSoft did wrong by their name releasing this game. People would cry out that no one likes fantasy MMOs, that someone needs to come out with a new model, yet no one played this game. I am sick of hearing that people want something different, yet they won't play EVE or AA.
All people want is a game where they can play an elf and get to be the most powerful person on the server with only twenty hours played. That no matter how much someone else plays, like 40-60 hours a week, they will never become more powerful.
I'm sure that if Blizzard would come up with a World of Starcraft instead of Warcraft there would be loads of people playing it. It's not about the sci-fi/fantasy here, AA and EVE are simply completely different games, with different mechanics than most of todays mmorpgs.
This game was no different from any other fantasy MMO. You just played as a car instead of an elf. It offered nothing new, unique, or innovative besides a different custom.
He was lying, or mistaken. Auto Assault has never had anywhere close to the same number of subscribers EVE has or had at the time.
Eh, not really disstress. Eve is a popular game that is doing /very/ well for what it is, which is an open-ended space MMORPG with few rules to govern players other than themselves.
As far as AA goes, I had played it from 2nd wave of beta up to several months after launch. What got me was the simple repetitiveness of gameplay. It just got to be the same thing over and over. Simple as that. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that's why the majority of people left the game. It simply didn't have enough to offer besides being a different setting.
As long as mmo developers learn lessons from the AA story then it will have served some purpose. Net devil delivered a post mortem at GDC this year (there's a link on MMORPG.com if you want read it) the pretty much stated that you must never let the publisher dictate you development process. NCsoft is mostly to blame for AA's failing.
Now once the MMO players out there get sick of elves and swords then you might see AA back and successful under another name.
RIP AA. I played when there was a free trial and wasn't all that impressed, but I did have some good times in it.
Shame that these games have to die. Dont know why they HAVE to either...I miss Asherons Call 2, even though it was an odd and crappy game sometimes, I miss it to death. And it was my first MMO.
RIP AA. Still have my account subscribe till this October. :(
I was in beta and it was ok. The first 2 hours I thought it was the greatest thing ever, but then it got old real fast.
Well good luck TR, your going to need it.
It really is sad to see a game go down, even if you didn't enjoy it. It's just a whole lot of work that seems to have been for naught. Though if it provided even a few people with some enjoyable moments it wasn't a complete loss.
I guess you could say the good news is the people kicked out of this game will have to go elsewhere and boost another game's population.
If it was free to play, it'd have done better...
For what it was, it wasn't worth paying a monthly fee for.
From time to time I enjoy playing a carmageddon style game with guns and stuff on them, but not 15 bucks a month often.
An excellent point. I think the downfall of subscription based power title is coming. Hopefully NCSoft learns their lesson here launchs Guild Wars 2 with the same business model as the original.
As for Auto Assault, meh... if I wanted to play CoH, I'd play CoH.
Not much to say, but it's been a fun and interesting ride. And most defently a lonely one, at times it felt as if it were a single player game. It might of faired better as such instead of an MMO.
It just never got the population that it had during the betas...
I've been a long time subscriber of Auto Assault (from June, 2006 til present), and I've loved every minute I've had in the game. I've loved the action, close-knit community, and the fun and mayhem of guns and cars. I have no regrets above being a part of this wonderful game.
Those who never gave it a chance can say all they want to add insult to injury here, but this Auto Assault player will think of the good times that I've had in the wastelands with my friends, never looking back.
This game was nice. I wish I would have like it, but I just can't muster the motivation to play it. But it was nice. Seeing it go is sad. It was running smoothly, the graphics where neat, the animations where great. The system was sweet. I just wasn't getting the motivation for some reason (prolly was the endgame as I understand it, never experience it...and since I was not motivated much for some reason, I didn't told them, over and over and over again what was annoying me...see folks in some forums, such as Vanguard and WAR may find me irratating and annoying with all my arguments, but I am sure the cool guys at Net Devils would have love more feedback, more arguments, more stuff...sorry, I wish I would have been motivated, the game was neat and all)
Whatever the next thing you do guy, I wish you tons of luck!
You're right. That's why Anarchy Online is right now celebrating 6 years online, has just been slated for new server infrastructure, engine, and graphics. Because people only want elves.
And i had just picked up the game and was having fun
. I do hope that in the near future there will be another game like this.
There is a difference between the BEST in the whole game and been the BEST in a dungeon level 5. Players, they want to be the BEST at what they do. Not at everything (even if they may argue that they want to be).
See, if someone play a total of 20 hours and nothing more, I think it might be a legitimate request that he completely and totally rule the first dungeon, and that nobody else will outdo them, there, in the level 5 dungeon.
Personnally, I am a fan of UNLIMITED LEVELS. But at the same time, I support a level cap on each and every zone. So in said zone, everyone is brought down to the level cap if they are higher levels. Peoples asking to be the best at everything shouldn't be listened to, since they ask for what they don't need. A raider who ask to be the best in groups, he asks something he doesn't deserve nor need. If he raid, all he deserve and needs is raiding-progression, not grouping progression. Giving him a grouping progression will please him, but it won't ensure his subscribtion, since all he really cares for, is raiding...since he raid. At the same time, if you give progression outside of a gameplay, you ensure that everyone in said gameplay isn't enjoying the game. Best groupers have to be groupers. Best noobs have to be noobs. Best raiders have to be raiders. Simple, logical and efficient.
I can't say I'm surprised by this notion... in my opinion, it's another case of the devs not listening to the players frequently enough.
For all the long-term players (I played a very, VERY brief stint) I'd like to ask, how many times did people request PvP without having to drive in small, mini semi-circles for added evasion bonuses?
I am surprised, however, NCSoft didn't just sell it to SOE for some small stipend. SOE seems to love to buy dying games, and I'm sure they could have gotten something for it...
Oh well. Better luck next time NCSoft
ON JULY 1 2007 , I BROUGHT THE GAME FOR $1.
I HAD PLAYED IN THE BETA, IT WAS COOL.
NOW I AM SOOO MAD . THAT I WASTED $1.
I was in closed beta for AA and the game was horrible and didn't seem to improve any if anything it got worse and became more of a grind as beta stages progressed. It was a good concept, but bad execution in terms of game play because it just wasn't fun enough the vehicles didn't drive or handle well at all for the style of game play especially the type it was trying to portray the guys that made carmageddon or twisted metal would've done a much better job if they'd been on board the development team and had the resources to do so. The worst part about hearing AA being canceled is it's likely to ruin any chances of a similar game being developed any time soon in the near future as a result of AA's failure even though it's because the game sucked by design rather than concept.
NCSoft really needs to do something similar to Sony's Station Pass and then keeping small games like this around (Matrix Online, anyone?) won't seem like such a bad idea. As many people said, it's a fun game...not $15 a month fun, but I'm sure I'd fire it up from time to time if I could pay, say $25 a month and have access to CoX/L/L2/AA and then when Tabula Rosa comes out, they can tack another $5 onto the cost (V:SoH*cough*).
Ah well, it was fun the month or two I played it, would have liked to pop back from time to time, but I just couldn't justify the continued $15 a month for something that was a distraction, at best.
one grinder more or less, who cares?
at least they were smart and made a decision if they were going to keep it or not....unlike more games that should have done the same thing a while back....now THATS a mature company....others should learn from that.
It can't be a surprise, I think everyone saw this comming.
Its a pity. It wasn't the perfect MMO for me, But I always applauded Auto Assault and NetDevil for their innovative take. Fast paced action instead of slow paced combat, Vehicles instead of elfs and dwarfs, Sci - fi post apocalypse instead of medieval fantasy.
It didn't deserve to die like this.
Id like to wish everyone involved in the development, and running of the game successes in there next endeavor.
I don't get why people are pretending to be sad about this -- people who never played it or who played it and didn't like it.
Yes, it was different, and kudos for that, but it sounds like it was poorly designed and rather tedious even for people who WANTED to enjoy it.
Personally, I do a little happy dance every time a poorly designed game bites the dust. I find it rather offensive that so many games are produced (and produced poorly) for nothing more than the sake of jumping on the MMOG cash-wagon. Would-be developers need to realize that MMOGs are a risky endeavor, requiring immense amounts of commitment and resources. Unless you have plenty of both, you are going to end up half-assing it and wasting everyone's time and money.
RIP AutoAssault. I never knew ye but somehow i figured you wouldn't last (low subscribers). The difference between Earth and Beyond's cancellation and Auto Assault's cancellation is that AA team actually was trying to improve the game while EA just let EnB sit with minimal change for a few years after purchasing Westwood. There should be a list of deceased games on the game list with their former scores.
Aw poo! I picked up a copy last month for a whopping $5 at Futureshop (like Bestbuy in Canada). I knew from the price it was gonna die sometime, but not that soon. I haven't even installed it yet :P Guess tonight I break out those discs... use up my 'free month'.
I never thought this game was worthwhile. Terrible control mechanics, bad zone design.
MMORPG should try new things but this game is proof that innovative is not the same as good.
Have good game design with useable controls and interesting content and you can set it anywhere you want, fantasy, sci-fi or whatever. This was a case of the setting trying to sell the game, rather than the game selling the game. The developers spend too much time on their 'cool' setting with its bizarre factions and history while forgetting to pay attention to the game mechanics.
I do think this game was destined to failure in a sense unfortunetly. Interestingly enough, and I hate to say it, but I'll bet it would've faired much better on a console.
Agreed, i wasn't fond of the beta, but having played it recently in retail i really enjoyed the AH features and gameplay. It's a shame that games like this keep going and Dark and Light, Matrix Online refuses to die :-p
ahh well... c'est la vie
Most of all you haters are missing something.
This was the FIRST game that actually got me paying a subscription to play.
WHO knows how many others also.
Maybe being there at the start had something to do with that, probably infact.
None the less, it STILL IS a GREAT game in my opinion and much chaos and havoc is to be had for those who can bear the so-called repetitive grind to 80.
I talk in present tense for the game is NOT DEAD YET (not till the server plug is pulled for me).
WHO knows what the future may behold.
Admittedly it is in much need of some fixing and major advertising revenue to be at all successful should anyone decide to take AA on.
And to any potential company reps that may be reading this.
THERE IS A LOYAL PLAYERBASE WHO WOULD RETURN IF AA WAS TO BE RE_DEVELOPED.
TO those who say stuff like' fantasy will always rule blah blah'
WHat makes you think this is NOT fantasy?
ANyway, to all those I have fought alongside (DRUMMZZ !) who even bother to come here and read the skidmarks;
I had a great times fighting alongside ya and my Biomek spirit will never die!
ASSIMILATION OR DEATH..YOU DECIDE...
Amen man!
Auto Assault is a wonderful game imao, and all those trolls who come here and talk smack about it won't change my mind. Auto Assault didn't die because it was a bad game, it just had a low population, that's all... I guess if someone had done a little more advertising, and if games like WOW didn't take 98% of the MMO players in the world, maybe it would have had more of a chance for survival.
I will always love driving over walking/running in a game.
Some other company will develop a driving MMO game at some point in the future, and I will be the first in line to buy it - because I love driving games. Give me speed any day over strolling down a path to find the nearest elf to slap.
I will miss all the fun I've had in this thrilling game. Thanks for all the great times you've given me AA!
My 2 C - peace ;)
Its always sad when this happen for the players that did like game but they did to little to late imo and it lacked general game enjoyment.
it just lacked that extra umpf for me that was why i never got into it.
As a current subscriber, IMHO there are elements of "truth" in most of these comments-
1) The game was released half-baked performance-wise
2) The game was truly innovative relative to hack-n-slash fantasy, and played differently with an arcade-like focus
3) From a raw standpoint, many if not most gameplay elements are/were almost identical to other MMOs, however...
4) It was/is really hard to adjust to a "car" as being "you" in a virtual world compared to a biped.
5) Gameplay is mostly repetitive (then again, so is rinse-n-repeat grinding with a dwarf and an axe). Drive around, run over and or shoot things.
6) Companies are going to think long and hard before departing from the biped-with-a-sword(or wand) formula
7) Trolls, many of whom have never played the game after official release, have been all to happy to come here and gloat "ha ha!"
8) Few people played AA because they logged on (such as a trial) and saw that few people were playing. Rinse and repeat.
9) AA serves vivid notice that developers (really the software company executives) can't just push out crap and expect people to pay for it
10a) AA could have survived had the price stucture been lowered to make it an economically-feasible "side game." I believe that had they dropped the monthly fee to $4.99 a month instead of $14.99, they would have had more than triple the current subscribers.
10b) As a related concept, since the code and infrastructure is all there, AA could be resurrected with in-game ads and no monthly fee, and many players would play for free as a diversion.
11) The player community (aside from free trial types) was remarkably mature and helpful. I would attribute much of this to solidarity in response to legions of trolls and a shared love of vehicles.
I'm not thrilled to see it go.
So very true
Yeah, I was confused by this too - AO was the first MMO that got me hooked and it was _because_ of the cyber punk angle. I was really excited about the concept of this game pre-beta and I think there was a lot of interest - it just never came together right for various reasons, I don't think the fiction/storyline was the problem though.
I asked about this on a media run through at E3 a few years ago (that was also the first time I saw AA coincidently) and the media liaison said he didn't think that was in the future at the time because of their structure - they used multiple development companies and published them as well as their own in house games. Where as (at the time), SOE only had their own games.
I didn't see at the time (or now even :P ) why they couldn't work around the licensing issues and just work out a deal on a case by case basis, but I didn't press the point (we were on the way out and a new group was coming in). Maybe one of the staffers here knows an updated version of their take? This was the last I heard though.
Awww man, I still havent even installed the copy I got free with GW Nightfall...oh well lol no chance on ebay guess I should chuck it
i played during the beta. closed and open beta. ALthough the game had interesting departure from the average sword and sorcerer fantasy MMO, it was poorly implemented. Memory leaks, bugs, quests problems, performance issues, server instability issues, latency. the game however was original in concept but just like i said poorly implemented, and they are paying for that mistake. I think this game will define what it means to fail, and what lessons will be learned and how to apply those lessons learned to a new MMO. just too bad the game didnt stick. oh well moving on.
Games that sould follow AA example and quit for good:
Anarchy Online
ArchLord
Asheron's Call
City of Heroes
City of Villains
Dark Age of Camelot
Dark and Light
EVE Online
Everquest
Everquest II
Face of Mankind
Horizons
Knight Online
Lineage II (maybe not, but ... most people are leaving...)
MapleStory
The Matrix Online
Phantasy Star Universe
Planetside
RF Online
Ragnarok Online
Roma Victor
The Saga of Ryzom
Second Life (Is it realy a mmorpg? I dont see a bright future for this one, but maybe it won't close the business right now but wont last more than a year or 2 (different reasons too extensive to write here))
Shadowbane
Star Wars Galaxies
Ultima Online
Games in Development that are currently obsolete or without a bright future:
Age of Conan
The Chronicles of Spellborn
Fury
Gods and Heroes
Hero's Journey
Pirates of the Burning Sea
It's always a shame when a game draws its last breath. I didn't care for it personally. I only lasted 2 days before I uninstalled it because of sheer boredom, but it's still a shame for those people that did enjoy it.
Instead of closing it forever they should offer a free server with no future updates or support for people who already bought the game and just want to kill some time. Or even a server with a reduced subscription fee.
So from this, I assume you are either a fan of free games, or World of Warcraft. Is there any actual factual evidence why you think these games should be pulled or is it based on your opinion? I would be inclined to say that you don't like and havent played almost all those games seeing as your current posts on this site just show you complaining about Lineage2 and AutoAssault, encouraging people to play Private servers, speaking about how you used bots on Lineage2, or asking for Dungeon Runners keys.
Almost all the games on your list are currently well populated and enjoyed by a lot of players, just because you don't like them, it doesn't make them terrible games. This is quite possibly one of the most stupid posts Ive ever read on this site.
Hi m8, thanks for your reply. I am also glad about the hard study you did reading all my last posts...
But you get it all wrong! Maybe you have a problem understanding english, or maybe my english isnt good enough? I am sorry if thats the case).
I think Lineage2 was a great game, it had its golden moments, it as a real AAA title. But the main mechanics stood still in time and the main engine is now quite old (Unreal Engine Warfare) like the "Chronicles of Spellborn" engine, it wont stand for long after AION opens to public.
As oposed to what you said I am not a fan of free games, I even said class B free games don't stand a chance with the low monthly fees of major AAA Morpg subscription games. One exception is SUN, wich is a great game but I think unfortunatly it might not reach the EU or US market. I am not a fan of WoW but I must say its a great game and it will last for at least more 3 to 5 years.
I find it hard for you to understand some more sensible topics like bots and private servers, cheats, hacks due to your lack of experience in Morpgs maybe, but they are very important subjects. Sword of new world is a game that tryed to solve some of those problems (I think it failed and that is not a game with bright future) due to its importance.
I currently don't play any MMorpg because I don't have time to play, but I tested most of these games and collected info about them on my free time.
PS - Thanks for reminding me of Dungeon Runners, I think that game has no future either. Played it as a beta player thanks to a mmorpg.com invitation you refered and tested the full membership service for 1 month.
I have a lot of experience with MMORPG's and while bots and private servers are fine for discussion, encouraging their use, or saying you use them is not. This site frowns upon people encouraging use of private servers and bots as do players of these games as well. For example, plenty of people post complaining about the bot situation on Lineage2, but nobody posts saying they use bots and its great etc.
However I still stand by the fact you cannot dismiss games out of hand because they are not the "Latest and Greatest." While I don't doubt Aoin will be a good game, it doesn't mean every other game will fail. Age of Conan and The Chronicles of spellborn are games that revolutionise the general MMORPG playstyle by using FPS style controls. WAR is based on a strong franchise and is being recognised by many as the PvP worlds answer to WoW.
You just seem to dismiss a large number of games and seem to think that because they don't have a huge backing they should close down. A lot of games on your list are stiull turning a large profit and have large playerbases supporting the game. AutoAssault closed because the playersbase was slo low it wasn't profitable. If other games are running and turning a profit, then there is no reason why they should close.
Please Atomicide I ask you to change your flaming childish speech.
1st of all I want you to stop acusing me of encouraging other people to use bots use private servers etc. That subject was and is off of this topic and you are too young and inexperienced to deal with it. You started using those acusations in a public place and off topic after wasting your time searching the forums for my last posts along with the intention of altering and degrading my image towards other people. That is wrong, and its a very poor and under-educated way of argumenting your opinion.
2nd You are not a moderator and your post count doesnt give you the power of being rude and arrogant to other persons and to decide what should or should not be discussed on mmorpg.com
3rd I talked about Bots, hacks etc in the post topic "General: MMOWTF: Lax on the HaXzors " and I said :
"MMM.... this post has an incomplete way of dealing with the subject, in my opinion. Cheating has always been around in mmorpgs. I think that whenever you think about competition in computer games, the big C word comes around. A mmorpg is by definition a BASIC type of entertainment, where personal skills and intelligence won’t make you improve your "status" or "score" in that type of game. Instead and unfortunately, your "score" and "status" is measured by the TIME your spend in game. That notion of TIME, leads to the creation of the term GRIND. That’s when Cheats can save you from suffering. Isn't it great to wake up after a good night sleep, turn on your monitor and discover that your BOT leveled your char 5 levels, got you a full bag of craft materials and a pile of gold? Yes it is.
Let’s be honest, most of the players who play a subscription mmorpg, have a real life job. Its allways hard for children to convince their parents to pay for a subscription mmorpg that will most surely degrade their real life performance specicaly in school, fammily, etc.
I was hoping to find problematic issues like BOTs, CSH (client side hacking), PE's (Packet Emulators), CE's (Cheat Engines), HS (hack shields) and AHB (anti-hack bypassing) presented in the context of the actual& modern MMOs. It might be interesting also to reflect on the impact of the increasing use of hacking&cheating by players and its relation to the exponential increase of MMO game products.
Currently its observable that unlike a few years ago, some MMO's see their subscriptions increase when new bots and tools appear and decrease when those tools are disabled.
What will the future reserve? Will future game be more oriented to automation like Granado Espada, where you can leave your party of characters leveling in your hunting spot while you go eat your dinner or see an episode of your favourite TV show?
Only time will tell... "
4rd I think it could have been realy interesting to develop this subject even more, regarding the possible future mmorpg growth correction and the its relations with the upcoming titles and the current state of the art in what is now called the 9th Art, the online computer games. But unfortunatly childish attitudes and arrogance and lack of respect can realy castrate the will to continue.
I never played it and it doesn't bother me that it failed. From what I've heard and what seems to be the general consensus in this thread, AA was a poor to mediocre game. No big loss.
I was thinking to give it a shot when i get my new computer, it was cheap after all.
Since it's going down, i wont get it. Anyways rest in peace AA.
Im not going to give you much more of my time, but I will say the following.
1. You clearly don't have a full understanding of the English language, as you seem to think im being "arrogant and have a lack of respect" just because I do not agree with what you are saying. Im not being flaming or childish, because "flaming" would mean I am using irrelevant points, or insulting you, which I am clearly not doing. Trying to bring age into the matter by saying im "young and inexperianced" clearly shows you have very little understanding of what I am actually writing.
2. Well, talking about "Core" players and child players. I started playing L2 in beta days and boted using L2Rich. I was among the highest level characters of my server boting almost 24/7. That is taken from a post by you where you clearly state you were "botting almost 24/7" and anyone can check that and verify.
3. At no point did did I bring my post count, or anything like it into the arguement so I have no idea what you mention that.
4. You claim this could have been an intresting subject, yet you are not intrested in debate, you are only intrested in pushing your own opinion, and anyone that disagrees with you is wrong. That doesn't make an intresting topic at all.
5. For the record, I am 22 years old and I am very much experianced in MMORPG's and other Online games. If you cannot actually debate this without brining in flames, insults and things like age, then don't bother complaining. All my points have been fair and valid and based on the subject. You have flamed and insulted me a few times now, yet claim I am the one insulting you.
If you need me to clarify anything in this post, then contact me via PM to resolve this as I speak using full and proper English and advanced statements and sentences which some people may find difficult to understand if English is not their native language.
At the risk of getting flamed I'd like to ask about RF online in this case. Its going F2P, so why do you want to see it shut down. That really doesn't make any sense to me.
I was in the beta and it had potential but just wasn't implimented well. I always thought this was like "Twisted Metal Online".
I never found it annoying that you couldn't get out of the car. It was a game about the cars not the drivers after all. What really bothered me was the vague quests and that "fully destructable" environments would respawn shortly: "hey I just blew up that house 5 mins ago!"
Didn't get good marketing on this game either. Going to my local gamestop I never saw any AA posters, cardboard standees or such. Plenty of "City of" and "Guild Wars" ads though.
However, this game had low subs unlike E&B. When EA shut down Earth & Beyond reports were that subs were still around 100k. The current belief is that EA wanted 300k or so otherwise the game wasn't "profitable" enough. Which is absurd since the estimate is, based on bandwidth costs and average products, that around 20-25k subs is needed to break even. Don't mention WoW since their sub numbers are absurd.
its a shame that they just shut it down :(
why not make it free or something .. all of us who paid for it should be able to play etc .
shame that mmocraps like vanguard etc are still on and pearls with issues are brought down :(
Why did they shut it down? :)
Welcome to five months ago.
Because it wasnt much good and not enough people liked it.
Strange to see this post dredged up.. but yeah, pretty much. It's too bad though, doubt we'll see another MMO anything like it, any time soon. Post-apocalyptic MMOs, sure, but I mean the whole vehicular combat angle. It could have been done so much better, but AA might have killed it for the whole genre. Who's going to risk it after the ideas been one of the worst failures in MMO history. They had a huge budget, and got what, maybe 10k box sales, and 2-3k subs?
I was surprised to see replies to this topic so long after the fact too.
Like I said months before, game had potential. Less than exemplar marketing combined with some annoying gameply issues eventually killed it. If this ever went to free-to-play, I'd definately fire it back up and give it another shot.
