the fact they went to next scene after each attack motion had been done, worries me greatly, if they want slow paced combat that's okay but they sure have to make sure that the player doesn't feel like he's sitting with a 5 second auto attack weapon that would just be horrid.
I really hope they, for themselves, don't turn it into a sleeping pill.
Well I will be playing Vanguard when it come out. Yet I do think its Sony doing EQ2 the way it was ment to be. Not saying EQ2 wasnt any good but it didnt have the everquest feel. Id imagine this game to have the graphics of EQ2 (with a little more detail) but with the gamepaly you expect from a legend like EQ.
I'm guessing SOE's marketing dept. put this together, because of the bad word of mouth over the boring combat we've seen so far. I agree that it feels like they are trying to mislead us with the scenes strung together like that.
On the plus side, some of the combat animations we did see were decent and there seems to be more combat and spell effects.
On the minus side, the graphics continue to strike me as dated. I know we lose a lot of the clarity and detail in the video format, but I'm reminded of the situation we saw with EQ2, where the screen shots looked good, but when the game was in motion it looked bad.
It should be easy enough to tweak combat speed, I can live with less than stellar graphics if the rest of the game is good. (Assuming the models aren't as ugly as EQ2 and the transitions between near and far aren't immersion killing as in EQ2).
I really look forward to try out Vanguard. Just hope they wont put any combat upgrade on this one... I got only 1 thing to say about that movie, it just doesnt show anything... All you see is people bashing and missing, I think trailers or in-game movies before launch of the game should contain the interface, this would give us a better idea about whats comin up.
Remember this game is still in beta, so there not going to show any of the interface untill closer to launch witch isnt going to be untill Q1 of 2007. In one of the interviews they talked about there pvp witch will have mounted combat ground and air at some point. I really have high hopes for this game but I think this game will be the second comming of the MMO world or it will be a huge flop, and that depends on how bad Sony can screw it up if Sigil lets them have to much creative control. We will see I guess.

You know, sometimes I wonder if Sigil didn't get Sony involved in Vanguard for the simple fact that if it does bomb, everyone will just say "It bombed because SOE was involved!".
I wasnt impressed .. fighting distance looked bad .. like you are swinging in the air .. to the person who said they would play it because nothing will come out till 2008, there are a bunch slated to come out in 2007 .. and some even look better than this. IMHO
I`ve always defended Vanguard but this trailer smells SOE all the way and this is a bad move as some of the excerpts are dated.(watch some footage from E3 vid with the giant.. and the guy in Red have already been used)Until now all movies were from beta and this one does not look like beta. So,Sigil Staff I hope you know what you are doing by allowing such trailers
The animations look fine -- very realistic in stance and execution. As for the time between strikes, this was a topic of discussion long, long ago, before there was a beta; because back then Sigil was telling the community that combat would be in eight-second rounds, in order to allow the player to react to the many circumstances high-level combat can involve. It could be argued that the rounds should then lengthen only in higher-level combat, but that... just wouldn't feel right, would it?
We know the eight-second limit is no longer in place, but I still expect that the time between strikes will be slightly longer than most people are accustomed to, because at higher levels things become most strategically reactionary. Something that I think would be extremely difficult to capture in a video clip unless it is frozen at key frames and explained by a narrator.

Marketting is one area Sigil does not have much say in, as far as I am aware.
To make it seem like combat isn't slow and dull, they string together a series of fights (lasting only one swing time each) to make it look fast!
What a fraud. Next time show an entire fight, or at least enough of one for people to judge.
Like WoW, or any other MMORPG ever made for that matter, put an entire fight into a marketing video? You're opinions used to have some originality, now you seem like you're just another slack-jawed keyboard mashing troll. The graphics look great in that video and it leaves you wanting more. I now know that you have no interest in Vanguard and your daily visits to the forum are just exactly what I thought originally. You're a Vanguard troll.
I loved the video. While short, it showed me some of the locations I haven't ever seen yet. Can't wait to get there myself.
The combat looks too "Console-esque" for with the the particle effects
but other than that the clip really doesn't tell me much about whether
I will like the game or not.
It is good to see some posters actually addressing the clip. I
get pretty tired of the political garbage. "I hate any game made
by X company" stuff really gets old.

WTH is with people bitching about combat distance? I just have to know, how old are you? Not that I'm putting you down, but I just want to know.

They are complaining about the distance because for a game thats marketing itself on graphics and realism, you would expect something a little more believable. When you swing a sword that does not even come close (2 feet) to the monster you are attacking, and damage is still done, its disapointing. If it was WoW or Spellborn, something more unrealistic (although nicely stylized), it would be more acceptable in my opinion.
You should not expect this from what they call a "Next-Gen" mmo.
The graphics look great in that video and it leaves you wanting more.
All it leaves me wanting is another game entirely. That video is crap. It's made with their computers and it's still a choppy, laggy, stuttering piece of junk. And this is a part of the game they wanted to showcase! What must the rest be like?
I know you feel that each and every negative comment on this game requires a personal response by you, but damn man look at the avalanche of negative responses from mainstream gamers, now that we are in a forum for everyone and not just the coolaid drinkers. Are we all trolls?

You may not be trolls, but your opinions are by no means the gospel nor the ultimate authority, which is the way they are presented. As I said before, I still wonder why, even after the elaborate post on the other thread, you and others are still attacking anything and everything that comes out. Being the veterans you are you have to know by now in it's current state of production along with it's current goal for launch, the sweeping changes you guys want aren't gonna happen. So why try to bring as much doom and gloom as you possibly can for others or take derogatory shots at them (Re: the cool-aid remark you seem very fond of)? It seems like every new bit of information requires a personal negative response from you, no? And this "avalanche", as you say, just isn't so when you remember that when people are generally happy with something, they don't speak up, they just ride along. So when the only voices heard are the complaining ones, sure, it may seem like an avalanche, but it's not. The silent, happy, majority made it's voice heard in SWG after the NGE.
Trust me, SOE had nothing to do with this game other than to buy it's distribution rights. Microsoft who decided to drop it like a hot potatoe because they didn't see it doing anything more than AC1, AC2 or EQ in its subscribership.
MMO's want 2 - 4 million subscribers to be successful now a days. And WoW and Lineage(1 and 2) have shown it is possible. One major reason WoW was so successful is because the player isnt forced into a 80% group only game play and 20% solo. WoW did it right and let users choose their path to max level. You could solo as well as only casually play. Or do nothing but group and/or play 16 hour days. Or do a combination of both. Each day it was upto you to decide. And to boot, the casual player would be on double exp bonus most of the time. What I mean is they appealed to every game player in the market versus a subset of players.
But I could be wrong. Maybe it will give the appeal and feeling that EQ had. But somehow I believe the feeling EQ had was very much attributed to it being new (nothing like it).
I will never play this game no matter how good it is since I am boycotting all of SOE and Sony products because of the way they do business. Until they change their attitudes in customer service and acknowledge the customer is always right (reasonably) and not a widget, the company will continue to go thru a downfall.
The combat distance is the only thing worrying me at this time... but in the long run brad was what made everquest so good until he left... So I am trusting that he doesnt do anything stupid either this time round...
I will buy it and just not play it if its crap lol... end of story... Im not anyone's fanboy...
Man this game looks worse every time i see it! LOL
Anyway, i will be getting it. Because if Vanguard will not be good , there will be no good mmos until 2008
Any idea on a real date for this vid?
Looks fantastic, the variety of creatures in the video is outstanding.
So use to the generic WoW models used over and over again.
Dark Kingdoms for Playstation 3
But combat varity is better than beatiful graphics and smacking the same 3 buttons over and over

LMAO!!!

Very true, I guess I should be thankful.

jesus that was like the most unimpressive video i ever seen in my life.

Hmm, hope I put enough smilies in this one...
Read the sticky post from Aradune at the top of the Vanguard forum on this site.

I agree.
However Sigil is handling customer support, SOE collects the money and runs the servers, its very good at that. All GMs are Sigil employed.
atlast you actually see some flesh there.
I will buy it and just not play it if its crap lol... end of story... Im not anyone's fanboy...
