What began today as a rumor, has now been officially confirmed: Sean "AshenTemper" Dahlberg has departed Bioware.

Sean served as Community Manager for the Star Wars: The Old Republic community, and this story originally began as a simple rumor posted to the official SW:TOR forums this morning. The rumor asserted that, according to "various sources" Sean had left the company. The post's author, "Lauren", pointed to Mr. Dahlberg's Twitter account, which no longer reflected his position at Bioware, to reinforce their claim.
Earlier tonight, Bioware's Senior Community Coordinator Joanne Laroche confirmed the report, explaining that Sean had indeed left the company:
Hi Everyone –
Sean Dahlberg has recently left BioWare. We would like to thank Sean for doing a great job building the TOR Community and we wish him well in his future endeavors!
Best,
The Star Wars: The Old Republic Team
We wish Sean all the best wherever his future takes him!
Community Manager for the Star Wars: The Old Republic community is a lot of work! I am sure he has found a better more flowing job, now by looking at that picture of his work space... the job seem boring. IF it was one of the game Dev's then that would have been a major concern to all of us.
It was rather sudden. Maybe he got sick of the demands from managemnet, fans, and work in general. Maybe he found something better, or maybe he just needed some time off for personal reasons. I'm sure he'll still be a TOR fan, though I imagine he will be able to enjoy it more from the player side.
DOOOM!!!!
I played with Sean "AshenTemper" Dahlberg wayyyy back in Shadowbane beta over 8 years ago. He was a pretty cool guy and a great community manager back then, though I have taken very little interest in his latest project SW:ToR. I do hope he lands on his feet and hope to see him back in the industry in the future.
I do wonder why he left so suddenly. And to where.
Sean sucks as a Community Manager. TOR community has to be the worst community I have been a part of. I remember when we didnt have polls and I was doing polls from an outside source to keep the community interested. I posted the links and bumped them up. I sent him a PM asking him to take a look at what I was trying to do for the community. He gave me two infractions. I responded to him and told him that I just wanted his opinion on what I was doing and if I should continue doing so. He told me that he didnt care what I was doing. He's a punk and I hope he falls on his face. Karma, yeah!
Id like to see Khatie running TOR. Khatie from SGW and JGE is the shizz.
Sean got promoted to customer.
Maybe I am misunderstanding you, you created polls on other websites to have people visit those websites to vote?
Bumping your threads is against the forum rules; hence your infractions.
I always felt this guy was a complete tool. Good riddance and lets get someone who's good at their job.
I guess even even people like him get fed up with all the fake hype and utopian and cynical "our game will be best evar!~" remarks from devs.
If leaked beta screenshots are any indication, I expect many devs from this game to leave before release as to not sully their own reputation.
"Glorified forum moderator quits "job". News at 11."
Oh noes!
Claiming their game will have an amazing story is not a "Best game ever" remark, it is usually fact when it comes to a BioWare game.
As for the screenshots, what all did it tell you? I know for a fact you can't judge an entire game from screenshots, I've seen them, and there was nothing in there to make me think it would be a good or bad experience.
Checking your recent posts has shown you're interested in a game called Battle of the Immortals. Should I come to the conclusion that this is just more F2P trash sporting a CS, no real content, being a mindless grind to cap based on a few screenshots?
If so, enjoy playing in trash.
On topic: It's not really a sad situation, just a bit shocking. He supposedly has another job lined up, hopefully everything works out for him in the end.
Ashen put up with the Shadowbane forums for years. It was far more work for what had to be considerably less money. He probably found a company that will actually let him participate in development rather than have him babysitting noobs. He's not a sit on the sidelines type of guy.
A community manager leaving isn't that big of a deal when it comes to the game itself. Its not like he had anything to do with actually making the game other than possibly passing on suggestions from fans, and I even doubt that happened. If a lead dev left, that would be entirely different. Its highly likely he found a better job, in which case I can't blame him for leaving.
It has begun !!!
MikeB, the only good thing about WaR xD, god i loved his podcasts lmao
THIIIIISS!!!!
Always wandered what this guy looked like.
Anyhow, who is to say he didn't get fired ? Seemed to me like he was an ok community manager, but we don't know what all went on behind the scenes. Maybe he found a job that would pay more.... Only reasons I would find for him leaving. Unless he came down with some terrible illness that is keeping him from doing his job.
Good luck to you , sean.
A lot of speculation going on here and even some flaming from gamers who most likely couldn't do his job if they tried I'm sure. The reality is that it is unfortunate for him during these hard economic times so I hope he has a new job elsewhere.
thank gosh you literally couldn't have a damn duscussion in those threads thanks to him, you mention anything outside of star wars in a damn thread goodbye post deleted. It has just become a war between guilds and they flag posts all day long to try and make sure they are always the top on the list its just fricken stupid. Let's hope this community goes in a different direction despite the fact that I played the demo at PAX and though it was terrible compared to Tera or GW2. Also I played Tera's new build that the press was only allowed in to see and it was insane........to bad we wiped in the hardest room..............didn't even make it to the end
... not sure why all the hype or whatever over this, the guy wasnt a dev.. just a PR type.. who probably migrate a good bit anyway.. his reasons for moving on may well be entirely personal, and not game related at all..
- Apparantly you missed the " this will be KOTOR IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, bla bla bla in ONE!1!11" comments as well as the whole themepark space shooter minigame being hyped as best and most innovative thing evarrr!!!~
- What do I see in screenshots? I see cartoonified art style. I see blue aliens looking like WoW characters. I see npcs with comic sans character names and huge warcraft-y "!" above him. I see a simple point and click combat and generic-mmorpg-ui#45644. I see HK47 getting turned into "that weird npc dude you teleport to instances from". I also see two best sw games, kotor and kotor II, going down the drain for money, I see possibility of kotor trilogy ending in epic third game going down the drain in favor of this money grab. I also see the future of Bioware going towards the dark side where Blizzard, Cryptic, SOE and Activision belong. Give me back old SWG please and Bioware should focus on single player games. Their mass effect franchise is turning into generic fps and loosing the story quality( II was already a whole lot weaker in story and characters when compared to I), their dragon age team is ruining the awesomeness by taking away all that made Dragon Age Origins so Awesome and turning the series into yet another mainstreamified action-in-rpg-disguise game like so many others out there. Oh and the endless possibilities of KOTOR III are gathering dust abandoned in favor of idea of having xxEdwardxx go with his epic party to take down Sith Lord McZedraxxax LVL99...
- Going by your post I can't help but thik thatyou are one of those mindless p2p-elitist-trolls that plague mmorpg.com so much. Ever wondered why people turn to F2P games? Becuse in last few years pretty much every p2p mmo generic more-of-the-same at best. The only difference is that while in f2p you pay as much as you want to, p2p games automatically assume that you are 24/7 no-lifer who has time to play all those cool p2p wow-clones 24/7 for entire month or loose money.
I have always loved rules like this in forums (not)
Both bumping your own threads and 'thread necromancy'.
Rule #2 It is always better to post in an existing thread
It always seems to be the forums that crack down hardest on these things that end up with moderators complaining that they have to constantly merge ten thousand threads on the same subject....
This is on this site because its a slow news day.
I know all of you are pretty hip with online speak; but you need to learn corporate speak.
Hi Everyone –
Sean Dahlberg has recently left BioWare. We would like to thank Sean for doing a great job building the TOR Community and we wish him well in his future endeavors!
Best,
The Star Wars: The Old Republic Team
They used the word "left" (not resigned), and the phrase "his future endevors" (not his future at at company x). Its also noteworthy that Bioware is controling the message and not Dahlberg.
Corporate (HR compliant) language for: they fired him.
He/a Community Manager may not have direct relation to the development of the game, but with out community there will/would be no game with out it. So imo the CM can be a very important role.
I can't speak to his endeavours regarding Star Wars but for the years he served as a community manager for Shadowbane, he was really quite great / involved / passionate. Best community manager I've seen to date.
PR, like HR departments, always think their really important.. and.. their really not... but they're often good at hyping themselves
My imaginaton has him buying a sniper rifle (bolt-action,7.62, silencer, low-lite scope).
And with that and the addresses of everyone on the SWtOR forums, travelling the world righting wrongs and "thinning the herd".
... and Ashlura is on the list
