Global Agenda News - Sandstorm Phase 2 Impressions

Posted by Suzie Ford on Jul 28, 2010  | 25 comments in our forums

Global Agenda has recently been updated with Sandstorm Phase 2 bringing with it a host of changes that have pleased the player base. MMORPG.com writer Bill Murphy has spent some time in Sandstorm's Sonoran Desert Open Zone and has some thoughts about how the game is shaping up. Keep reading to find out more about Sandstorm Phase 2!

Global Agenda has been quietly patching away since release, making an already stellar persistent shooter something more than it was likely ever intended to be. Hi-Rez Studios recently made the decision not only to cut the subscription model entirely from their game and instead focus on more of a Guild Wars-esque expansion system, but long before this decision the Georgia-based team’s game was already taking shape as a real hybrid MMORPG/TPS in light of player demands. Just last week the studio released the second phase of their massive Sandstorm update to the live servers, and after spending some time with the new Sonoran Desert open zone and the rest of the upgrades I’m finding my interest in defeating the Commonwealth rising once more.

Read more of Bill's impressions about Global Agenda's latest update.

As someone that hates shooters, I had a blast in this game. The raids are a lot of fun. Didn't try the new zone yet. Assault Ho Hum!

I guess I'm not surprised all of this was done post launch, as companies are getting away with that more and more these days. I think they probably screwed themselves for the most part though. I wish them the best of luck, and may try the game out after phase 3 is complete.

Global Agenda is a good deal for the money. I got a little burnt out running instances over and over (pvp and pve). But the new patch is a nice touch, would have been nice if they had it at launch. Going back and doing it now feels like a level 80 in wow going back and doing quests in the barrens. Its OK but not many people there. If MMO's could handle large scale shooters, the new desert map would be a killer PvP zone and worth playing just for that.

The article makes no mention of the 10-man RAIDS that were added, quite a big oversight since that's the primarily thing most players above lvl 30 are getting out of this update. Only the lowbies are doing the open zone   OVerall a great update from HiRez .

Where is the War Zone they were talking about. That was suppose to be in The Sandstorm patch,if i remember correctly. Open world PvP would be awsome.

The Open War Zone is coming with phase 3 of the Sandstorm patch.

I'd love to give feedback but since Phase 2 went live I get constant crashes, especially out in the desert. Waiting for a solution still.

they're making the warzone in phase 3 which will be a big PvP zone.  can hold up to 64 players i think.

I really want this game to succeed, even though I don't play it. I did the level 15 trial and had a blast. Loooooved it. All these additions make it sound even better! But I've got other MMOs on my plate atm =\

The nice thing about this one is its a one time cost and is something good to play during downtime or when you just get tired of your normal MMo and need a short break. Much of the gameplay can be broken down into 10 to 30 minute chunks with hopefully the content coming down the pike will fill in larger time chunks for those who wish to play this game more full bore.

Like the reviewer I think this is one of those games that will grow into something really good over time if they keep getting an influx of money from new purchases. So Buy Buy Buy :)

I do enjoy the new open desert area and the only complaint I have is that the content is a bit short. This could largely be because I play as a lvl 50 robo. I would say it took me about 6 hours to complete the PVE content of the new zone. I will just keep instance pvp'ing until the higher lvl zone content comes out i guess. It does raise the question of how big the paid for expansions are going to be.

I have other class characters in the 30's but I really like the versitility of the Robotics class.

They require you to be 30+, so the writer may not have been able to take part in them. For anyone wondering, theyre basically survival missions with 4 waves where you have to defend a power core and beat a Boss at the end. Theres 3 raid maps in all, 2 static and 1 payload.

IMHO! Best value game I've played so far. Beats any RPG with multiplayer of the same price. Getting tired of your usual MMO? Buy this game and make it your instant adrenaline fix! Play it 1-3hours a day when you're bored or want a change in pace. The new hourly 10-man defense raid is super fun. 3/4 phase in the event and you'll be running and spraying bullets in all corners trying to outlast the massive waves of drones. Colony Guardians are a little too powerful with long range and 3-shot AoE bombs but with the proper coordination, you'll be able to beat enough to last until the main boss. The open zone is a tad frustrating for the level but the direction they're going looks promising. Open zone AI aiming and fast respawn rate will make you cry (respawn should be fix). Loading the new zone is kinda too much for some PCs though. I never joined an agency but I still feel like I have enough to do in the game.

Yeah, should be 500 vs. 500 with no lag or FPS problems like every other MMO.

/agree

This sort of comment is pretty much worthless now. The M in MMO is very much a relative thing anyway. Bit like 20 people in an elevator is pretty massive, yet 20 people in a football stadium isn't.

If you enjoy the game, I don't think you really care whether or not it meets some saps definition of MMO.

Think its just that the first letter is misleading.  Should be something more like P(ersistent)MORPG or maybe Officially Persistant MORPG.  Massive is a subjective term, but its not really what the genre refers to.  Its more about how players have characters that persist on an official server, along with "massive" numbers of other characters.

Then there's the RPG part, which isn't really right, either....

Basically, the whole acronym sucks :p

Interestingly, it was after Sandstorm phase 2 that I left GA after playing for several months.  I've found the slow migration from a TPS to mmotps very annoying.  The game has become seriously unfun post level 40.

I was going to go purchase a boxed version of the game from my local Best Buy but they were out. Last time I was there (about a week ago), they had a number of copies but are not sold out. So, I hope they still are selling this retail.
