A few highlights can be found below:

- There are screenshots in the magazine of the alpha version, and it looks like there have been a lot of small changes
- “Aggro/hate” has a different name in 14 (Translates to something like how much the enemy views you as a threat)

Likely my next MMO
It doesn't really seem all that revolutionary but more of a return to form. I'm hoping for an actual challenging and immersive game.
Interesting....as long as it's still not going to be level based, I'm auto-in.
Stop with the details, you're making me want this game more and more!!
I'll probably enjoy this game just because my real-life buddies want to play.
i don't think that's posible, even skill based games like CO and WoW use levels in some form.
Being able to use magic while moving...yay! :D
hmm-alpha version soon-probably won't see the game befoe 2011 or 2012. Hopefully it will come out sooner as I can't wait to play!
One of my favorite features of Vanguard. Moving while casting slows movement and cast time but can be done. Most useful for a HoT or heal on the way out when things go bad.
Sounds interesting. I've never tried any of the FF games, but am willing to give this one a go. If it's as bot-laden as Aion was/is, It'll be a short-lived game for me. I hope its well done and controlled.
Beta starts March 11th (tomorrow) it is suppose to be released this year, the developers are firm about a 2010 release.

CO and WoW are not skill based... they're level based.
On that topic though, FFXIV is a hybrid of a skill-based system and a level based one. The information we've been given so far suggests the system will allow you to 'level' different jobs/classes all on one character like in FFXI, BUT you will be able to select skills learnt from other jobs/classes on that character and equip them in some tertiary skill pool, essentially allowing you to customise your character in a way that is very similar to a skill based system. There's no sub-jobs, but rather you're free to pick skills from any of your other classes in any combination...
This hasn't been confirmed but the devs have made it very clear that the classes are not 'classes' like in, say, WoW, and all of the info given so far regarding character progression alludes to this system (very similar to things seen in the FF tactics games).
On the thread topic though, that info is nice, looks like SE are bringing the gameplay mechanics cloaser to those of modern western MMOs. No new details on classes/advancement yet though which I think are what most people are waiting for.
More info...... I can't handle....... it...... OMG!! I want it now!!

It's possible. in fact i think it was already stated that they were not going to use levels and instead you progress though personal development and story ect..
I've honestly never been more exciting for a game :D
"Square wants to make it possible to play with your friends from FFXI."
Does anyone know what they mean by this? Will there be some kind of crossover? Or maybe the FFXIV subscription will also give you FFXI, similar to Sony's packages?
It's been in Alpha for a while now. Beta starts on March 11th (link). And they've said they're aiming for a 2010 release. It could be possible if the beta goes well. I'm hoping FFXIII will keep me occupied till then.
It's possible. They could also allow Linkshells(guilds) to be cross-game, as well as make game chat cross-game (SOE does this too). So if you're playing XIV you can send IMs or talk in guildchat with people still in XI.
