Final Fantasy XIV News - FFXIII PS3 Contains Exclusive FFXIV Item, Beta Opportunity

Posted by Michael Bitton on Mar 09, 2010  | 24 comments in our forums

Those of you picking up your copy of Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3 today should be excited by the latest revelation to come out of the US PlayStation blog. Every copy of the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will come with an exclusive in-game item for Final Fantasy XIV, as well as the ability "to enter for a potential opportunity to become a beta tester for FINAL FANTASY XIV for PS3."

We're not sure if the beta bonus is really an additional avenue towards getting into the Final Fantasy XIV beta, or simply a link to the beta sign up page.

Let us know when you pick up your copies (mine hasn't arrived yet!)

The original blog post can be viewed here.

1) Buy game (Final Fantasy XIII - PS3 Only!).
2) Look inside for registration card.
3) Go to website showed on card.
4) Create account.
5) Add and register your game (XIII) with the serial number of the game.
6) Wait to receive your "Code" either onscreen or via email. [**a][**b][**d] (Should be pretty instant, but allow up to 30 mins I guess)
7) Go to Beta signup page and complete form. Make sure to select PS3 [**c][**e]
8) Upon selecting PS3, you will be required to fill in the "code" from step (6).
9) Sit on your hands and wait for news on when the PS3 Beta starts etc.

[**a] I cannot confirm or prove what my friend says about the Code having shown up on-screen after he registered the game. I just have to take his word for it at this point.

[**b] It has become known that the "Code" reward for registering is a Limited offer. Best guess: First Come, First served.

[**c] Please note: Only one application will be considered, and that will be the last one you submitted. If you have already been selected for PC Beta, completing this form again stands a high chance of disqualifying you from the PC Beta. MAYBE it will just pop an error or your application will be filtered out at a later stage. Don't take that chance of you really rather want to be in PC Beta.
You WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be active in both Beta platforms.

[**d] Do not lose this code, even if you are not selected for Beta when the time comes. The code still guarantees a super-secret in-game item for FFXIV once it launches. :)

When you register FF XIII on the S-E Members page you get a code for FF XIV.
Then you have to go to the beta application page (yeah, the same one as before, and mind you, you can only have 1 application per one S-E Account - that is PS3 OR PC) and fill the application while typing in the code.

Why would they offer a PS3 only beta in the 360 copy? Sure some people will have both consoles but most will certainly not. They can at the very least confirm the person buying the PS3 copy no doubt owns a PS3 or has easy access to one.

Oh well, I'm glad I bought the PS3 version last night :)

I thought the 360 version wasn't guaranteed yet. I recall something about microsoft being microsoft and wanting to control how it all integrated with Xbox Live.

I bought my copy earlier today (without knowing about this) and I'm torn if I want to try to get into the PS3 beta or hope for a PC beta...

No 360 version has even been announced, so I don't see how this is a fuck you to 360 players.

Even when/if they eventually do announce it, it's not like it will be day & date, it's pretty much confirmed at this point that the game will be PC/PS3 only when it first launches. Also considering quite a few FFXI players I know that play on the 360 got accepted into the PC alpha test (and subsequent beta phases), I don't really think 360 players can complain at all. You can't have everything your way after all.

FFXIV isn't coming to the 360 so it wouldn't make sense to give xbox users PS3 beta codes, guess you should of gotten the ps3 version negative nancy.

It's not just a beta code, it also grants in-game content, therefore it's just as DeserttFoxx said. I'll be getting XIII for PS3 anyway, but I can understand why this is pretty unfair on those who have a 360... the majority of people who actually care about the item will probably be getting it for PC anyway, in which case the console exclusivity is irrelevant.

IMO this is just SquareEnix making a point to MS. I've always gotten the distinct impression that SE hates MS, despite giving XIII to the 360.

Meh, XIII was made for the PS3 anyway, the 360 version is just an afterthought. Note: I am not a PS3 fanboi and have many more 360 games than PS3 games, but you gotta know which system to get which games on. If you can't afford both systems sometimes you have to settle for less.

Heh, I can understand that, I have a 360 but I'm using FFXIII as an excuse to finally buy a PS3. I just don't understand why MS couldn't have included the item codes in every copy of the game. Why not just leave the beta codes exclusive to the PS3?

To be honest, this sort of situation is why I'm growing to really dislike all of these bonus content promotions with preorders and special editions on the console market lately.

I am in the beta for the PC and Xbox 360 verison with 2 accounts right now. No, i don't mean the beta is now, I mean I have applied for both.

I have the website for both as a news posting on my news website, but i guess since i don't get alot of readers or anything, I won't post the link.

could say the same thing about the PS3 owners and the GTA expansions.

tbh i am so sick of these exclusive console crap (either Xbox or PS3).  I really don't see a reason to shaft the Xbox users especially if they plan on releasing the new MMO on the Xbox.

These are only included in the initial print or first print of the game so not all copies are guaranteed to have it.  I would imagine the first shipment to any store would, but subsequent shipments might not so maybe you should ask at wherever you go to pick it up if it's a first shipment copy.

I got mine all registered and ready to go, and my wife was kind enough to sign up for the PS3 beta.  Registered at 12:04est.  I hope it's first come first serve.
