Aiming to keep Star Trek Online players in the loop, Cryptic Studios has introduced "Engineering Reports," which are posts that detail what the developers are currently working to address, add, or improve in the game.
The reports are broken down into three sections, which are described in further detail below:
In Testing
These issues have been addressed, and are being reviewed internally. Once approved, these items will be added to one of the next Holodeck updates. Issues in this bucket are generally around 2 weeks away from going Live.Under Investigation
STO Team members are looking into these issues (many times player reported) to uncover bugs or oddities that will need to be addressed. Not everything in this section turns out to be a bug, and in some cases these issues may be specific to some players and require CS resolutions. ETAs for resolution in this section vary by issue. In Development
These are features or fixes that have been reviewed and discussed and are undergoing design time to be implemented in a future update. Issues in this section are more than 3 weeks away from going Live.
The first report is now available for viewing and feedback, you can read it here.
[Thanks Christopher8 for the tip!]
*Grabs popcorn, lies on the couch and waits to see how Cryptic manages to turn something so basic as this into an all out fustercluck*
actually it seems to be pretty good, their even some mod activity
Hmm,
Will they fix the uniform issues with the TOS and Mirror universe? I see they are addressing new bridges and off duty uniforms. Thats nice. I wont knock this but they really need to get on the ball and pump out quality content and fixes. It just feels so spotty for a new launch.
yeah i harped them about that, their character artist is working feverishly on it
Is this not what almost every other mmo already offers? Just without the 'engineering reports' title?
Pretty much, but because it's Cryptic they have to herald it as the next big thing and make a huge deal out of it.
still don't help the fact that the new borg encounter sucks, and well still no klingon content not to mention just a shitty game that still should be in beta. Don't get me wrong it has some shine but, never NEVER enough to justify the price or a sub.
Wait, so we should be happy that they are actually going to communicate with the community about things they are working on? Shouldn't they have been doing this in the first place? I don't understand how Cryptic can take something like this and try to spin it as though it is the best thing since sliced bread...
LOL, mean... but one can't dispute the probability of this. hrhr
I was hoping this would be some kind of new game feature.... finally, perhaps a way to interact with your bridge officers. But instead it's just a glorified dev tracker.
Whoa, fantastic! a dev tracker!! now STO is 1% closer to a "standard" MMO, skyrocketing to an amazing 16%... :|
gotta love how the community is just eating this up
they need to take Bo's out imo. it was a novel idea for a bit, but later on its just tedious, not to metnion if you get on catwalks the get stuck and unresponsive.
Yup, all this report does is state the obvious of what's going on behind the scenes at this stage of STO, bug fixing? O rly, I 'd never have guessed they were bug fixing mainly if they had never done this report. It's just theatrics to pacify the “where is the deb team acknowledging my opinions and ideas on the game” crowd that are very loud and vocal.
Lol these forums are so fubar, you can't make anyone happy here.
Not true. You just can't make everyone happy all the time. This site is for the entire MMORPG genre which encompasses games with vastly different themes, settings, and game mechanics. For example, people that like sandboxes won't be happy with the themepark junk that is rolling off MMORPG assembly lines and people that like themeparks won't like sandboxes. You're bound to get lots of anti-game-x discussions around here due to the all encompassing nature here.
[Mod Edit]
I was one of the people that gave it a chance and ignored all the na-sayers. Now after playing, over all its Starfleet:Legacey/Conquest (console games) with just more indepth customization. Dont get me wrong the Space combat was loads of fun,its what basicly kept me playing for the free month...well heres to hoping FF14 or SWtor turn out.
MMOs coming out will not be great or any good if the Publishers keep pushing the Developers to rush the product out into the market... remindes me of making food at a resturant: If you rush slapping the burger together its just going to look and taste sloppy, but if you take just that little extra time needed to put it together so it looks nice,it Will taste better. And that brings me back to FF14 and SWtor the 2 respective comapnies are know for there great products and accomplishments, I personally have yet to see a REALLY bad game come frome either one but thats just my opinion.
So I'm forced to ask, how is this news?
especially considering the delay and omission in reporting some of the more important subjects concerning this and other games
I feel its more than simple Publishers rushing Developers at this point. Why are so many features being excluded or underdevloped in light of launch windows? The answer is one game did it without the extra baggage and all IP holders want to get thier name out there before thier IP is forgotten. Think in terms of Twilight. If an MMO happens, it will be surely a flash in the pan, short lived product. Its dead as soon as the next tweeny movement takes hold simular to The Matrix. Thats the driving force for publishers to get it out there yesterday. Developers are having to bow to this restriction adding to why IP MMO's suck. AoC could have spent more time and have a lot more promise as an MMO as there was no cross promotion. What you have there was a limited budget and no cross market product to promote a whole IP. As with others, this is what they got to develop with a pre-approved outline of features.
You read the "Seven Underrated Systems" artical here, right? Those core 'sandbox' systems are almost near non-existant now in new MMOs. Gamers ask why have them since WOW has them in little to no reguard and Blizzard is consider the best MMO innovator. Long time MMO vets know that WOW added nothing new to the space but stripped down systems to a very fun and effective system. Thier stants on "no housing" is really a system issue of not haveing to keep more Data Base assets in check. Further it cut the cost of development to not have housing. Cutting MMO development cost, expanding the fun features to target the mass of Casual players and now everyone is making MMOG and not the 'sandbox' MMORPGs of old.
Its not a matter of lazyness, its a matter of cost efficiency with WOW as the model. Kill WOW and you will have a new model.
All these upset people are hillarious. It's as if they actually expected something good out of Cryptic.
I'm still happy, I expected FAIL as soon as I found out who got the license.
Whats that about Holodeck??
Are they putting in Holodeck adventures or something?
LOL when i first read that thread i tought it was something they added in the game, but no.... not really suprised here.
I believe its what they call thier Test Sever.
It's news because it showcases Cryptic's inability to do anything other than dress up a half-baked gimmick as a "cool new feature".
